  1. With the serial number...I believe it is a 99 rg model. Which trem does it have? Does it have the input jack that mounts directly to the body or in a jackplate? Whats the pickup configuration? Does it have the stripe down the back of the neck, or is it all maple? Chrome IBANEZ logo with the white checkmark sounds like a 5 series rg if its a 6 string, not 100 percent sure about the 7s....what color is it also? I can cross reference it with my 99 catalague

  2. I bought these at a guitar show a while back, and I dont really need extra sets(keeping 2 sets for myself). They are never installed sealed tuners 14 to 1 ratio. I think they are factory seconds, as some of them feel like they need to be used or broke in. I was told they are mighty mites, but who knows. I have 3 complete sets up for grabs. 15 bucks a set shipped. No pics till tomorrow.

  3. Everything would be easier to have someone else do it, but then what would you learn? You might have to touch it up but then, it depends on how much experience you have routing on finished surfaces. Personaly I have learned more from my mistakes than from my success, but then again, I am not practicing on anything that Im not willing to lose. If I break it, Ive learned something, and it gives me something else to practice(refinishing, Routing, repairs on a finish or wood, whatever I might have screwed up on) I would start learning something other than a floyd install, and do a lot of reading..... I was researching on this site and reading as many books as I could find for about a year before I even bought a router or wood. Just my opinion. And welcome to the forum, there is a lot of great stuff and great people to help you with whatever...and before someone starts picking on you....learning to use the search function will save you a ton of headaches

  4. Yes it can be done. I had a gibson les paul that the headstock was demolished beyond repair. The local repair guy had a gibson neck that the lower half was split lenghtwise, but the headstock was ok. The fretboard was removed from both necks, and cut below the 2nd fret. The good headstock ended up on my guitar, but its not like it was hidden. I recently found out that the better way to do it was to scarf cut them for a stronger joint, but it held up OK, and is still ok. Not a job for a newbie, and not just for cosmetics.

  5. I look at it this way. Since you already have a replacement, why take a chance with one that you may have remove the fretboard later when or if you have you have problems. Couldnt tell ya from experence. I would just hate to have the guitar done and string it up, and the rod dosent do its job properly, and you have a buzz or really high action. Would be enough to pull clumps of hair from my head.

  6. Naturally I had to get the new guy at my local lumberyard. When I asked to have my neck blank thickness sanded to its final size, he only sanded one side. Now Im left with a laminated neck blank that is exactly 19mm thick, and flat on only 1 side. Now I read that I could glue a veneer on after the other side is flat to make up the diference, but how will that affect the scarf joint, unless I wait till after i do the scarf joint. I could just have the other side sanded and work with a neck blank that is only 18mm thick( just guessing here) I will be using the LMII 2way truss rod so its not as deep a route as the Hot Rod I planned on using.

Will a real thick fingerboard help? Am I shooting myself in the foot by doing that? I could also use a veneer to make up the difference, but then will you notice the veneer under the fingerboard(bois de rose). I know in theory, one of these solutions will work, but what about in the real world, where I will be routing the trussrod channel, and the bit will come lose and wreck it anyways. Should I just start over and when I go back to the lumberyard, break the old blank over the guys head?!? It wont acomplish anything, but I will feel better, and then I can still use it for a practice scarf joint

  8. Did anyone see the namm video of Neil Moser showing some of the tools he used? They had some guy shaping a neck blank with chisels, and you could here the people gooing ouch, ooo, ahh, but it actually worked out good for rough shaping. Not my taste, but there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

  9. You would figure it would be easy to find, but my neither stewmac or llmi have any. Evilbay lists only cream or white pearloid and Grizzly dosent have em either. Dosent have to be flat bottomed, but would be prefered. Also USA would be prefered so shipping dosent cost more than the ring. Thanks in advance

  10. Hey if its free...its for me.... especially guitar stuff. Whatever you dont use for a project, you can always use as trial and error for painting, staining, refinishing, heck just about anything. I have a neck with a broken headstock I got for free. I can practice a neck repair and fretboard removal on it, and if I have a oops moment , I learn so I dont make the same mistake on the real deal. Send anything you dont want to me :D
