  1. So Ive done 3 practice runs of the fabric finish, and no problems. Now of course, on the one that matters, I ran into a problem. After the final coat of clear was applied and hardened, I started wetsanding the body. On 2 areas (one by one of the pickups and one by the pickup selector) the cloth soaked up a bit of water and raised the clear just enough to make it cloudy. Leaving it out in the sun for a day dried it out, and became unnoticable. I dry sanded with some 800 just to be sure and reapplied more clear. Again, it has hardened, but now I am nervous about wetsanding and buffing. Is there some alternative to wetsanding for that mirror finish I long for, or do I just have to chance it? I forgot. Its a PPG 2 part clear urethane(same as on automobiles)

  2. Im not sure if thats what you need or not, however from experience, I would not plug anything you value into the wall socket by itself. I lost my Lee Jackson modded Marshall because of a lightning strike at my rehearsal space, and it wasnt even on. For the 60 bucks or so, I would spend the money anyways.

  3. I lift weights. 12 oz at a time.... I was the kid in high school that hung out in the auto shop, and my exercise was riding my bike/board to the ramps. Was a drummer till i twisted my knee 360 degrees snowboarding. Doc said I could continue drumming if I didnt plan on walking after 30 years old. Thats when I picked up the guitar. :D

  4. That red latex in a can is available from Eastwood automotive products. You dip steel tools in it to provide a cusioned handle, however Im not sure of any reaction to the guitar, and the finish comes off eventually. Mine of course is in extreme case as my hands are greasy and oily and are abused every day.

  5. There is a full tutorial on converting a RG body to jem body, and an inlay tutorial for doing the disappearing pyramid inlay. Buy a cheap RG and practice on that rather than starting from scratch. I just picked up a complete RG220 for under a hundred bucks. Also READ READ READ. If yer short on cash, I have found Hiscoks book and Kochs book at my local library. Lot cheaper than buying them. Good luck

  6. Welcome to the forum. If you want to build a tele for your 1st guitar, why not. Just a few hints before you get bombarded, If you havent done so yet, pick up melvyn hiscocks book on building electric guitars. It is a wealth of knowledge for the beginner and it will answer most questions you may have. Also use the search function before posting questions to avoid people telling you to use the search function. Happy building

  7. I have a guitar body that I hope to save, and Im not sure if its possible. Where the neck meets the body , there is a crack. Looked like the crack you get on most older non aanj ibanez bodies in the finish, but when I stripped the guitar, its in the wood. Is there a way to prevent the crack from getting longer? I was thinking of drilling a hole through the body, and gluing a dowel rod in place. Is there something not so drastic, or should I split the body completely and reglue J/K
