  1. Picked out the kit I want to build, but like everything else, I want to see if I can modify it...hence the need for the book. I have been living on sites like ax84 and 18watt, and my brother is an electronics engeneer, so as far as saftey, Im more than covered. No need for a hand built amp if yer dead

  2. Webers new book and DVD combo is a hunderd bucks on sale if you preorder it. Thats half the cost of the tube amp kit I was thinkin about buying. I already live at the library......and some of the books arent even listed in their catalogues. But to buy a book on a subject Im not 100% sure I want to do.......

  3. That tone lizard site is a lot to take in ay once, but very cool. Seems a very straight to the point approach. However, Im looking more for a beginners guide. Not that I dont understand what is being said, but I like to be very clear on the hows, whys, and what not. (Why would matched tubes be preferd or not, instead of the guy at the music store sayin, well these are the most expensive....must be the best.)

  4. So obviously, Melvins book is the go to guide for guitar building, but what about tube amps... I already read tube amp theory by Tino Zotolla, but Im looking for the ultimate hombrew tube amp book. Dave Hunter? Gerald Weber? Already been to ax84 and the 18 watt community, just to name a few, but is there one book that anyone found to be more informative than others? Anywhere I go and ask about tube amps, I get dumbfounded looks and comments like"you mean vacuum tubes?!?! Thats ancient history"----Direct quote from a electronics store clerk HAHA

  5. Right now neither. I was gonna compare it to some older tube amp schematics to see where the difference is, and possibly(once I do a little research) eventualy doing something like the krank amp. HAVE YOU HEARD THAT TONE?!?!?!? Its just insane. I was lookin to get that tone into a smaller combo that I can build myself, if thats even possible

  6. There is a company that sells huge decals you just stick to the front of the guitar, and VOILA.. you have a george lynch screaming skull guitar, randy rhodes polka dot V, Zaak Wylde Les Paul, but why wouldnt you attempt it yourself? I am by no means an artist, and Im doing my first one now. This isnt intended as a rip on you by any means. Everything I have learned up to this point is trial and error anyways, so why not give it a shot. If it dosent turn out how you like, strip it down and try again.

  7. Because of the body design, Im limited to 26.5 scale. Any longer, and my bridge would be off the body. I'm building it to be tuned lower than standard, and thats the closest I can get to a "barritone scale" Because the guitar will be used more for recording than anything, Im designing it to minimize any problems with tuning, and a vast array of pickup configurations through coil tapping and such. Thats why Ive become so interested in installing a compensated nut. Figured it cant hurt if nothing else.

  8. The website says the nut will work with any radius, fret size and string guage, built for fender and gibson guitars. It dosent specify about any custom scale lengths or custom sizes. Emailed them repeatedly, and still no answer. Has anyone used this system on say, a barritone guitar, and what kind of results did you get?

  9. Just want it for my own collection. Not looking at it as an investment, or to sell anytime soon. It waw appreaised by a gibson collecter right at a grand, and the case at 300 bucks. Strings were installed on the guitars last setup and never played. I can take a pic of the scum and dust buildup on the fretboard if ya like, its the only thing dirty.:>)

  10. Got the guitar, and its a 1968 es330 TDC in cherry. Headstock repair is really the only downfall to this guitar. It plays like a dream and sounds great for its age(Just some crackle from the pots). Never refretted, pots are factory, even the strings on her are 25+ years old. Case is from earlier years(not for that year guitar) but it is Gibsons high end case. NOT a collectors piece, but one heck of a player. Waiting to see what he wants as a trade.....
