  1. Hi all, Two questions: I'm planning a neck-tru guitar but with the wood sizes I have, I've to build a two mahogany strips. I was wondering if that is a good idea because the truss rod channel will go over the glue joint. The neck has to be thin too, is there any experience on routing some portion of truss rod channel in the fingerboard to avoid routing so deep on the neck wood ? I've seen the topic http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=31108 where thegarehanman talks about it but no more info is added. Thanks!
  2. Hi, I'm looking for two ibanez deluxe strap buttons BLACK (with Part Number 4EP1JH2B) or COSMO (with Part Number 4EP1JH2K) used in the Ibanez Joe Satriani JS1000, Steve Vai JEM7xx, etc. Any offer is welcome! Thanks, Jorge
  3. Hi all, I'm interested in the fixed bridge 7330 and I would like to know the maximum and minimum string height in the saddles, thats the bridge height, in order to figure the neck angle. Anybody can help me ? Thanks a lot!
  4. Hi all. I'm trying to build a flying supreme hybird and I'm lloking for a very thick bookmatched set flamed maple block. Thy sizes will be, more or less, 460 x 340 x 48 mm Anybody knows a wood supplier with this kind of material ? Any offer is studied! Best regards, Jorge
  5. ... and what do you use the sealer for ? what's the sealer utility ?? (begginner question)
  6. Thanks a lot Rich!! Rob, they're not glued on the top! The pickup's cavity is oversized to allow insert and remove it. The next pic will show you this: Regards, Jorge
  7. Hi Brian, Well, I routed the top and the body before glue them together. You can take a look from the next pics, the body and the backside of the top: If you're interested you can see all the pics of the building process in the next link http://personales.ya.com/jorgefm/Guitar%20...ding/index.html and I've documented all the process in a spanish forum like this. The link is: http://foros.guitarramania.com/viewtopic.p...be14a670d18c765 I love this look too and I'm trying to get it work Best regards
  8. Hi all, First of all thanks for you responses! I sent emails to Seymour Duncan and StewMac, where I bought the bridge. They said basically the same. It's not so important to get the string perfectly aligned over the pole pieces. Here, the emails: From SD: >Hi Jorge, >Thank you for the email and photos. >I understand exactly what happened here. The Hot Rodded Humbucker set >comes with the SH-4 JB for the bridge position. This is by far the most >popular and sought after version of the JB, which is why it is in the >set, rather than the wider TB-4 version. It has a string spacing of 1 >15/16". >However, after reviewing the pics you sent, the spacing issue is more of >a cosmetic issue than anything else. The Low E string is on the edge, >but it will still be fine as the magnetic field is wider than the >diameter of the pole pieces. >Thank you. From StewMac: >Jorge, > It is not necessary for the string to align with the polepieces exactly. >There is a magnetic field around the polepiece that will pick up the vibration >from the string. It looks to me from you pictures that your setup will work >fine. >Best regards, And Mickguard, you're right. When I glued the top onto the body a little displacement was added along the center. The pickup holes were made previously in the top and maybe this is effect you can see. I was wondering if I have to redo the pickups holes and use mounting pickups rings to try to align the pickups properly, what do you think?? I like the look of the current pickups holes and I'm trying to avoid using the rings... and if the magnetic fields don't get disturbed from the little missalignment I only have to check that the bridge is perfectly aligned with the nut. Is it that correct ??? Sorry, it's my first building project I've been thinking about the disalignment and it's a rotation where the center is in the top center line near the neck and the rotation is towards the short horn. I think the overall sound will not be affected if the bridge is set properly.
  9. Hi all, In my current project I want to use the seymour duncan pickups: SH2-n (jazz model) in neck position and the SH4 (JB model) in the bridge position. I bought it in a set from guitarelectronics, the 'Hot Rod set'. Well, before drilling the bridge posts I wanted to check the complete set up. I've placed the bridge with double side tape, I made a temporary nut with the correct spacing, I placed the pickup in their position and with some string from the nut to the bridge I've been able to see a little missalignment in the sixth string over the bridge pickup. Maybe the next pics can show you what I'm trying to describe: I was thinking about the bridge string spacing, a 2-1/16" pigtail bridge, but it's a common string spacing. Next I've checked the pole pieces spacing and it's very weird. Both pickups have the same spacing, the neck and the bridge pickup! I thought that the bridge pickup spacing will be bigger because the string are more separated in the bridge than in the neck pickup. The pickups boxs backcover has the next quote: "This pickup is designed for bridges with traditional humbucker string spacing of 1.925"/48.9mm measured center of high string to low string over the bridge" This miss alignment is acceptable ????? Any help is welcome! Best regards, Jorge
  10. I think Strats use a 1/2" radius roundover on front and back, but if you're looking for a more subtle rounding, 1/4" (which I used on my tele project) is nice. Thank you! I'm building a PRS-like guitar and I was thinking using a 5/16" or a 3/8" radius roundover.
  11. Hi all, I'm planing to route the backside body edge to get a rounded shape. I would like to know what's the most common radius used to do that? I was thinking using a 3/8" radius roundover bit with a 1/4" shank, but maybe is a small one... any help is welcome Jorge
  12. I don't really know of anywhere that'll ship them, since they're flammable. It's sort of annoying, because (apparently) about 9 months ago, they weren't. Or something. ← Yes, I know, it's a pitty. They are named as "combustible liquid", not as "flammable liquid" but now they can't be sent by air. And, what about another kind of dye? Can you recommend me another one which can be sent by air? Thanks
  13. Hi all, I'm trying to buy some transtint liquids stains to test some finishings but I haven't found a web site where I can buy it. Anybody knows where can buy this product ? The problem is that I live in Spain, Europe. Best regards, Jorge
  14. Alex, what's the wood thickness do you recommend to left between the spring and the head of the screw to avoid breaking the wood ? I'm using a flame maple top. Thanks
  15. Hi all! I want to recommend Rich for buying woods. I'm from Spain and I have to say that the shippment has arrived perfectly because it was very well packed. I've bougth a mahogany neck, very well built, the mahogany wings and an awesome flamed maple top. The woods are more beautiful when are in your hands than in a pic. Then, don't hesitate to make an international order. Thanks again, for the woods and for your advises! Keep in touch, Jorge
  16. ← It's not so easy. They say "Polyurethane enforced". In the lacquers they can put a lot of types of resins. It could be a nitro lacqued with polyurethane to reduce the drying time, for instance. Regards
  17. Thanks Mattia for your comment! It looked as a poly to me too because I've not read before of a nitro lacquer reinforced with polyurethane as the zweihorn specs said! I was looking for the Votteler lacquer with code '04 005-1-0000' and reference 'NC polishing and buffing lacquer'. All the info in the next link http://213.23.100.6/CMS/CMSVottelerWeb.nsf...ment&mk=06pr=03 I've read a lot of good references and I want to try it. The problem to get this lacquer is the shipment. In my country (Spain) I don't have a Votteler distributor and I've to buy it in France. The shipment fees are twice the lacquer price! Then, last summer, a friend of mine went to France, near a Votteler distributor. The Votteler distributor recommended him the zweihorn lacquer because he hasn't the Votteler one in stock! and he trusted him, and he bought the lacquer for me. Now, I'm trying to get all the info I can about this product, because I suppose it's not the same a nitro finishing than a poly finishing, isn't it? Thanks
  18. Hi all! I've bought a Zweihorn lacque for mi guitar finishing. The product is "super duroffix SDF-H". I've been said that this lacquer has the same quality as the famous Votteler lacquer. I don't know if the zweihorn lacquer is a nitro cellulosic lacquer or a poliurethane one. The lacquer link is: http://www.zweihorn.com/page/index.php?sid...7Uei&pg_id=1882 and the product specs are: http://www.zweihorn.com/page/files/File/en...tm/sdf_h890.pdf http://www.zweihorn.de/page/files/File/eng.../sdbl/SDF_H.pdf And I was looking for someone who has used this product or a person who can answer my question (is a nitro or not) from reading the specs from the web. I suppose this kind of products are only used by the european forum members but I can't get any feedback from the manufacturer and I don't know where can I ask! Thanks
  19. Hi all I'm in the process of pickup selection. Because I'm trying to made a PRS-copy I was thinking in get the original PRS pickups, the HFS and the Vintage Bass humbuckers. They are 120$ online. My project is a mahogany body, mahogany neck-thru and a maple top set. I'm interested in getting a clear sound, no heavy or hot rock music style :-) What do you think about this pickups? Anybody has use it in a custom project? What pickup do you recommend to use instead of the original to get a similar sound? Any comment is welcome! Thanks
  20. Ok, thanks. I know that i can get hard mapple locally but the flamed or quilt maple is not available. I'm interested in your top set 08-08-06 of flamed or 08-11-04 of quilted. Could you find out how much will be to send it to spain ? Thanks you very much! Jorge
  21. Hi Rich, Are you accepting international orders? I'm from Spain in Europe, and I would like to buy mahogany, pau ferro and flame maple for my next project and I've seen your wonderful woods :-) Thanks
