  1. Sure! Where do I sign? Any member benefits? Gonna make a few more electrics first.
  2. Not sure if it's the same one, but it's the same fixture nonetheless. http://rapidshare.com/files/16328855/How_T...Matt_Vinson.pdf It is by Matt Vinson.
  3. That's coming along REALLY nicely! I'd like to get into the acoustic world at some point too.
  4. Got the clear coats done. I'll let it dry for about 2 weeks or more and buff it out. It's looking great! I'll try to find a working camera... On another note, I'm already planning the next build(s). Here's a sneek peak of something I drew last night: The Cannondudder
  5. Thanks man! I got it stained today. Got pretty close to what I wanted. I'll start shooting the clear coats next week.
  6. I gave up on my camera so I borrowed one from school. Also some more progress! Got some more holes on the body, the frets are in and I routed a recess for the backplate. Oh, and finished the top carve! Front, Front, Back, Full shot Tomorrow I'll carve the neck. Should be fun.
  7. You wouldn't have to ask if you had read the whole topic. The neck pickup is routed right after the fingerboard ends. So the pickup ring covers the few mm's left.
  8. Thanks! But I honestly haven't got a clue what you're going on about?
  9. I had a week of down time, but this week I got some of more work done. Routed out the neck pocket, pup routes and a roundover on the back. Rough carved the top with the angle grinder. Plus some random stuff that needed to be sorted out like templates and stuff. Had a few feckups, but I think I've sorted them out. It's taking shape! Gonna finish the carve on the weekend and if I have the time, start on the frets. My camera has mysteriously stopped working so no new pics untill I sort that out.
  10. So you're saying that the frets are actually wood? Are you sure? I'm not buying that... Seems really stupid not to use regular frets when wooden ones are much harder to do and maintain. Can you get a closeup shot of the frets?
  11. You know the scale length of the guitar? I'm guessing it is shorter than normal since it is a travel guitar. Well, no. It's not 'normal' for a guitar to have only 15 frets, but that doesn't make it worse in any way. I think it's due to the guitar having shorter scale length. Not really sure what you mean by this... You mean the blank space at the end of the fretboard? Replacing the neck would be (imo) a waste of time. First of all, the guitar is definitely not worth it. Second, I'm fairly sure that you won't find a replacement neck for a guitar like that. And even if you did, it would probably be the same. Third, if you're planning on making a neck on your own you might as well make a new body for it. Just my opinion though. And seriously, what's REALLY wrong with the neck anyway?
  12. Can't see why not. And would it really matter if you somehow screw it up? You paid 23 bucks for it, it sounds like crap and it has no sentimental value to you. Let's see... The tuners can be replaced if they're really that shitty, but I'd check the nut befre buying new tuners. The slots could be too tight so that the strings get stuck. Try unstringing the guitar and 'filing' the nut slots with the strings. If that doesn't help the tuning, check that the tailpiece doesn't move when you play. (also check the intonation) And I guess you're talking about the bridge when you say "the thing on the body that elevates the strings" ( )? You could try to make a copy of it out of some nice rosewood or ebony. It would be a lot more durable. Also the tailpiece can be replaced with a similar one. Or you could make one out of ebony (complete artistic freedom ) The video game theme? Go for it. Refinishing the guitar will affect the tone, but since it sounds like crap anyway... Also while you're at it check the fretjob for nicks and bumps and level if necessary. About the strap issue, you could install one on the tail end (if it doesn't have on already). Put the other end of the strap to the headstock. After all this, it should be a very playable little guitar. (did I miss something?)
  13. The guitar is made by Amfisound, a small finnish company making custom guitars. http://www.amfisound.fi/
  14. Some progress: Got the side dots in, fb glued, neck tapered and roughly bandsawed to thickness, headstock bound and neck pocket template done. I also routed the depth of carve on the side. I was going to route the neck pocket today, but I noticed that my bit ain't long enough. Some more pics: Heel, mitre shot, headstock The binding on the headstock is not completely flush yet. Everything is quite rough at the moment. Can't really get anything done until I get a 2 inch template bit. Maybe the frets...
  15. Yes! That's more like it! Thanks. Can't wait to get back to work.
  16. Thanks! Looking forward to it! I'm shooting for something like this: Maybe a little bit greener.
  17. Thanks! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. @Slabbefusk, not quite what I was looking for, but thanks for the effort! I'm shooting for a LOT darker color and without the burst.
  18. Really nice color, but not really what I'm after with this one. I was thinking a really dark, vivid and lush, almost foresty green. And I think I'm not up to par with my spraying skills to attemp a burst. @Prostheta, I think you should really consider doing ears, if not, make it really big and get two necks. Despite the width of my neck blank I still had to glue a small ear to the upper side. Now that I think of it, I should have tryed to cut two necks from it. Would have saved me some euros...
  19. It's about -25° in here. I'm really feeling it! About the wood. The limba was originally a good size for a neck blank, but when you add the wenge and start glueing stuff up it gets pretty big. I could have gotten two necks out of it, but it would have been so close that I decided not to risk it since I really can't afford to buy more wood at the moment. The scrap can be used for little parts such as truss rod covers.
  20. I would, but they're already in the other board. -Click- I'll use it for a pothead/weed themed guitar or something. And thanks!
  21. 19 in a few months, but feeling a LOT older.
  22. Some progress. Here is the guitar as it is: Got the maple top glued on and routed flush. -Click- The headstock is almost done. All that is left is the binding which will be the same as on the FB. -Click- Check out my mitres! -Click- I'm quite satisfied, to be honest. Some of you might remember my last try... Not quite as right. I also got the headstock backstrapped. -Click- Not in the traditional sense, but I quite like the way it turned out. As I go, I'm also learning to use more and more hand tools. I practice on the 'not-so-critical' aspects of the build such as planing the headstock and the ears. I'm still not comfortable with using hand planes and such, but I'm getting there. Some of you might have noticed that I ditched the japanese maple leaf board. Everytime I looked at it it said "WEED!!". So I ordered another board from stewmac. Next up is drilling the side dots and glueing the board down (something I would have done today, but I forgot the side dot material home). Then I can start shaping the neck. I'll get back to work on monday. Here are a few more pics: Full shot Back Full shot
  23. Holy crap! That thing is downright melting! Good luck with sorting that out. Is the damage only in the back?
  24. Thanks! I can't believe I havent noticed that before. I read Setch's blog all the time.
