  2. Okay.. I have no experience with building/repairing acoustic.. but.. here's the story: My first guitar was an old Yamaha Nippon Gakki (MIJ) FG-140. This thing has beautiful solid (not ply) Mahogany back, sides, and neck. It also once had a (ply) Spruce top. However... well.. it had an accident and the top ended up with two soundholes... if ya know what I mean. It needs new tuners, and a new nut. The bridge is long gone as well. Would this be a good first project? Replacing the top with an a high grade Spruce top and some binding? I do believe it would sound amazing with a good top. It used to sound fantastic.. even with the ply top. So, if this is something I could do with hardly any experience, and if it'd be affordable.. what tools would I need? I'd really like to refinish it and change the black binding with Stew-Mac's tortise coloured. Also, how much would this cost to have done? Or maybe just a pre-cut high grade top with the rosset channels and soundhole cut? I think I could handle the bracing and binding.. but.. again.. I'm not exactly sure how hard it is. Tutorials always seem to make everything simple.. because obviously the person writing them has had much experience. heh.
  3. they are now. they used to have the same shape...not anymore Hmm... that little change (on the Agile, I assume) makes it look kinda funky. Yes, they do. Even funkier are the SG copies... their 'horns' actually look a little undeveloped and short. If I bought one, I'd have to name it Stubby.. but then it'd probably develop some kind of Freudian Envy thingy and crap out on me. :-( blah. Ya just can't win.
  4. Probably not. The PRS style kits aren't, anyway. I think (not too well, but really, I do) that the kits are built for the novice gutiar builder.. I mean.. with snap connections, pre-slotted nuts, bolt on necks, ect... For just a wee bit more, you could always get a Rondo Music Agile 2800 Les Paul.. they have real wood carved tops, hand filed frets, bone nut (and he includes a graphite one too).. potted alnico pups.. and grover tuner. They're only $299 too. He has one with a really sweet looking all NA swamp ash body too thay I've been eyeing. Oh, and then there's the $250 P-90 equiped SG. mmm mmm mmm. I ping ponged e-mails with the owner and I think (hope and pray, rather) I may have talked him into getting some Mosrite and Rickenbacker copies produced.. which would be cool.
  5. Are you saying that he put single coils and disguised them as humbuckers? Maybe I'm misunderstanding this? It sounds horrible. Do you have pics? It's hard to judge without seeing it but it sounds like you might be better of without it. I was led to believe that it originally had P-90's... not Melody Maker style single coils. Nope, no pics. Sorry. On the bright side, my father (40 years of cabinet/furniture building experience) looked at the neck and said it isn't twisted. He pointed out the cause of the 'lip' of the neck not sitting flush is a bump on the 'lip' (overhang) of the neck. He's going to file it off for me. Apparantly when the idiot hacked off the neck.. he took a piece of the body about 1/16" with it. The body must've been sanded down (so the neck bump rides the body instead of sitting in where it came from) Completely fixable though. My father also said he'd have one of his workers fill the holes and lay a thin veneer so all of it's scars aren't noticable.
  6. So, I bought a "60's/70's SG Special Project". It'd been routed for humbuckers and was left handed... no biggie.. just do a reverse Hendrix (I'm right handed)... The "simple fix neck" was unglued.. and it was stripped but.. came with "some original hardware". Not bad.. I could handle it. Then, I received it.. and the story god hopelessly sad. The first thing I noticed was that the body was not an described.. the routing was horrible.. not Gibson quality at all. Then.. I noticed the filled in control cavity.. and noticed the original pickup routes which still somewhat stood out. Then I realized the body was poplar and not mahogany.. and the neck was maple. Originally this was a Gibson SG-200, 250 or Gibson SG-II. The original pickups which were included confirmed this (single coils with black "Gibson" covers). The original fricken control plate was also included. No big deal, gotta stay positive, right? Yup! Then, I noticed the "simple fix neck" problem. It hadn't been removed properly. In fact.. it'd been SAWED off. It's fixable.. I managed to get the joint out of the guitar body.. and I could glue it to the neck.. but.. I suspect the neck has a slight twist.. it won't sit flush with the body. It was the last kick I could take while down. So, I've given up. The reason I bought the project as opposed to a full guitar is because I'm quit unwell-off and can't even afford a "Faded SG Special".. let alone a Vintage SG. So, taking this anyplace to be fixed is out if it costs too much. So, should I throw this on the fire? Or could I get some money for it, possibly? The seller refuses a refund because he's an ignorant inbred MFer who likes to deep throat for beer money... so that's out. I'm just a little confuzzled as what I should do, and very, very saddened by my stupid choice to waste money on an impossible project.
  7. I'm trying to revitalize a 60's or 70's SG-200. I'm trying to save it.. previous owener tried to murder it, I believe. Anyway, I'm converting it to a "standard" SG. Here's what I need: Tuners, Pickguard (large pickguard), "SG" truss rod cover, Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece. I really don't want to invest a ton of money on this.. so if you have soemthing cheap.. e-mail me at TheeDaVinciCode@aol.com NOT to the email address on file here at PG.com For sale I have.. 2 complete SG-200 single coils witht he black cover which reads "Gibson".. the electonics plate, and also the original electronics. And half the original tuners.. 3 on strip Kluson tuners. Again, TheeDaVinciCode@aol.com if interested.
  8. Any tips for mounting tuners such as Sperzels which use the studs instead of screws to hold them securely? I've mounted them before.. but always make a mess.. and at least 2 are usually crooked.
  9. I got it to work, just had to restart my computer. I can see how they angled the neck and such.. but only one problem.. They used the wrong paper size.. and didn't include good measurement. :-/
  10. Okay.. I downloaded the CAD program.. but.. after the downloaded file goes through the unpacking.. nothing happens. I even redownloaded it - and nothing. am I doing something wrong, maybe? I'm actually quite excited about toying with a CAD program again. In high school I took 2 solid years 2 periods a day of engineering classes.. so, it'll be fun to play around again. In high school though, we had AutoCAD though.. and I believe that's the best/easiest to use, though.
  11. I want to attempt to build my first neck through guitar.. I'd be using a neck from StewMac - http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?a..._Necks&sku=3181 I would be creating this guitar in either an SG or Mosrite style.. or possibly both if I attempt one and it goes fine. I would be using mahogoney w/ a veneer top. My main areas of concern are: getting the correct angle for using a tune o' matic bridge... how thick to cut the body... proper placement &alignment of pickup/bridge routing.. proper placement of tuner holes.. and just any general tips you might have. What I would almost kill for (and definietly would PAY someone for) are some nice templates/detailed blue prints, ect... and if anyone had such, they could contact me at MyBluePeriod@msn.com Thanks in advance.. s.

  13. Maybe i didn't look good enough.. but.. I couldn't find the answer in the supply section.. I know where to get wire.. but.. where do I get bobbins, base plates, pole pieces, and magnets?
  14. I need to pay off some HUGE hospital bills I've recently picked up, and the medical bills that I'll be forced (for my own well being) to come into. :-/ I'm from central New York state. I charge actual shipping +/- $1 or $2.. because for some reason it's always different. lol Solid Basswood body - $75 rosewood on maple neck (paddle headstock w/tuners) - $75 REAL Fender transistion decal (read below for more ino)* - $50 Unused spray can of Fender Shell Pink nitrocellulose based - $20 White primer for the above, can, unused - $20 Fender 1960's Reissue neck Rw/Maple MIM w/tuners- $150 Epiphone SG Deluxe Flametop, with 1984 Gibson SG bridge pup - $350 Prices are firm, but I would take $675 + shipping for everything listed above :-) * - This was from an out of business guitar shop.. it comes in a bag with a parts number on it, it was unused because instead of "Original Contour Body" the little decal says "Offset Contour Body". Fender apparantly packaged the wrong small decal with the main decal. Both are included for the $50.
  15. Well, they just weren't high power enough for me. I sold them on e-bay and bought a Duncan HotRails for the bridge, Vintage Rails for the middle, and Hotrails for the neck.. both hotrails with NorthCoil/Humbucker/Out Of Phase mini 3 way switches ;-)
  16. Looking to sell these.. $100 for the set.. work great.. I would also trade for another 3 single coil set.. but only (and that's a huge ONLY) if it has a single coil sized humbucker for the bridge position.
  17. I've actually tried that one lol It helped a little, but not much. :-( I was very surprised actually when I got it.. because.. like.. the licorice was in stick form. I'd always thought it came from a leaf of some kind. After boiling them I got some nasty tea to drink.. lol ;-) Thanks for the response, s.
  18. When I was in my mid teens I was diagnosed as having 'essential tremors' my doctor has basically told me "live with it" time and time again. Okay.. so.. anyone have this problem? I was working on my SG earlier today and the more I worked on it the worse my hands shook.. I was wiring mini switches.. so.. there was a lot of fine little points to solder.. and I just had to give up for the day. Not only does this seem to get worse day to day, but also from start to finish when working on a project that requires soldering. I'm only 22 and my hands shake like I have parkinsons or something. Any tips/home remedies?
  19. Here's some pics.. it was hard to photograph because.. a) the finish is mirror like. and my cam sucks http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_55.jpg http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_47.jpg http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_53.jpg http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_50.jpg http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_54.jpg http://images.andale.com/f2/127/111/889391..._Picture_52.jpg
  20. I'm not sure if this is allowed or not.. but.. here goes.. Last night in my search to find yet another place to sell some of the stuff I have I found a forum, which, came in nice and handy 'cuz I'm selling a set of Burstbuckers. ANd yes, I know I could use e-bay.. but I'm impatient.. plus.. I trust that I'll actually receive a payment from someone reading a forum as opposed to the 12 year old bidding with their parents e-bay account. The address is: www.lespaulforum.com It looks very busy... and seems very strict about listing things in the classified section.. so.. just read up on it a bit if you decide to list through them.
  21. Like new Fender Black Telecaster body MIM with a flawless Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster neck... Gotoh Humbucking bridge and a Warmoth 'Tortoise' humbucker pickguard. The pickups are a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck.. two h'buckers that go hand in hand and used by the likes of Kurt Cobain (on his Jaguar). If anyone reads this and would be interested in it.. let me know.. I'd consider selling it. It's a "parts guitar" that I DID NOT assemble from junk parts.. but rather bought the parts with the finished product in mind. The h'buckers are double cream and I've gotten a TON of compliments on its appearance everything from.. plain ol' "That look beautiful!" to.. "That one looks expensive" $175 for the body/electronics $150 for the neck/tuners $120 for the pickups $ 25 for the pickguard $ 40 for the bridge --------------------------------- $510 Total
  22. Later 80's Japanese neck with the 1972 logo (original logo, not after market) and original Gotoh tuners.. which don't have screws because I needed them for another set lol.. oops. Anyway.. it sold on ebay about a month and a half ago for $250.. I'll sell it here for $175 shipping to the US included. It's maple/maple in spectacular condition all around. PayPal only.
  23. Yeah, I think I could do it.. the only thing that looks tought right now is working around the bevels on the SG... and the set neck :-/
  24. Oh! Nice, thank you very much! I guess it's all left up for me to do now ;-)
