  1. What do you guys reckon are the best pickups to stick in an Epiphone Les Paul? I was going to get Burstbuckers just like the Gibson Les Pauls have, but i was just wondering if you guys think there's anything better out there for the same price, or hopefully less? Edit: it's an LP Standard BTW if that makes any difference
  2. if you want a really cheap router, check out good old argos. they've got a really cheap one in their "sale" at the minute for £20. If you're only going to be using it for one project i'm sure it'd be fine. That's the one I got for my lp, although i'm yet to use it, it seems ok.
  3. thats what you get for getting a strat body with the worst tremolo system ever invented ← got it up n running. it's not perfect, but since my other guitar's not comin home anytime soon it's fine. the new pickups are bright and crispy clear. since you mentioned the worst tremolo system ever invented, any ideas on improving it? how to make it work? bouli
  4. Hey guys i bought a crappy strat body off ebay and everything's out of line, but unfortunately i have to use it for a while. (my regular guitar's on the other side of the country and there's no sign of it coming home) i've put everything on including the neck but it's tilting to one side a bit. thus the bass string is about 4mm in from the side of the fretboard, and the high e is just about over the fretboard. I have to increase the neck pocket dept so i'll be working on that area a little. if i just fill the screw holes in the neck and widen the pocket on the necessary side and insert a shim type thing on the other will that work? obviously i'll redrill the neck screw holes. any other suggestions? I won't be too upset if i ruin this body since it's just a mess around with type, just to get an idea for working with guitars so nothing's really undoable. cheers, Bouli
  5. got a reply from the seller. he'll take it back but i've to fork out for the shipping. i'm gonna try and salvage it. but seriously, beware of ebay, not everyone's as nice as we'd all like.
  6. Howdy, I just received my fancy new pre made "stratocaster type body" i purchased off ebay. With the excitement of a child at christmas i tore the packaging open, and found a black and shiney stratISH body. to my amazement it came with a pickguard. great i think, so i pull out the pre wired pickguard i bought, my new tremolo bridge and got ready to attach. oh no wait. this thing is a piece of crap. 1. the pickguard was the wrong shape. 2. the routing didn't fit the pots 3. the holes were misalligned 4. the tremolo cavity was too narrow and thus useless 5. the holes in the pickguard didn't fit the screws 6. the holes for the bridge were too narrow and also too shallow 7. the "bathtub routing" went so deep the body was paper thin between the rear and front routing 8. the jackplate actually fit to my amazement 9. the neck socket was crap. nice and tight, but useless. small gaps here and there. terrible 10. when i attempted to attach my non functioning tremolo springs the screws ripped out of the body (ouch that one hurt) this revealed a large crap going horizontally through the body. crap crap crap crap crap moral of the story. build it yourself, or buy a real one. don't buy it on ebay, there's a lot of crap out there. avoid "acoustic angel" on ebay and don't be as naive as me. bouli
  7. cheers lads, that's what i was thinking. I'll get the ole digital camera out and start taking some snaps when the wood comes. bouli (any chance of an irish flag on the smilies list?)
  8. Hi guys, great site, great info! really great to find such a good source of info for free (minus the ole donation ) Anyways, i'm starting my first project, got the plans, everything's ready, i'm just waiting on a few parts, but i've got a problem- i found some nice mahogany on ebay in pieces 550mmx45mmx95mm approx so i'm gonna glue them together and thickness them and all that for the body. thing is, the neck, 550mm long is about 50mm too short for it, and i was wondering if it would be possible to join some more to the end to make the headstock. possibly a mortice and tennon jobby, or an angled joint? I made a drawing but i can't post it (i'm new). Anyways, thanks lads for any help you can give me. Bouli (by the way, more info for Irish builders needed!)
