  1. I saw a Gibson faded sg a couple of weeks ago at the local used music store. some fool tryed to paint a horse on it with black stain. About half way thru they must have decided they didn't know how to paint and sold it. At least I think it was a horse. they still wanted $450 for it I offered them $200 but they wouldn't budge on the price at all. Way too much work to make that one nice again. I might of bought it if they would have come down to say $250. If all that one has wrong is a bent tuner and a little rust, that dosn't sound like too bad of deal.
  2. I had a Marshall mg 15 or 20 not sure, for a short while, it sounded like a tin can. I traded it for a line 6 spider, that sounded way better. Good tone at low volumes.
  3. I had a tough time deciding this month. But I had to go with garehanmans tang top. very Cool! Jay
  4. Hey thanks for the info, I'm going to look into an adjustable one and a soldering station. I tryed doing a search and came up with nothing. must have typed the wrong words.
  5. I was just wondering what wattage soldering iron would be good for electronics? My old one died and never seemed hot enough anyway. Iv'e Been looking at the pencil ones and they seem to go from 20 to 60 watts.
  6. Hi can anyone suggest a web site or a book on building a 212 closed back ported cabinet. I'm looking for information on its construction and covering it with tolex also proper woods to use for it. Iv'e got the dovetail jig but want to do it right the first time.
  7. Yes I'm going with set neck tenon. Its a little wide but it looks kind of cool after I cut out plywood a pattern. Its going to be mahogony with a 1/4 quilted maple flat top. Maybe a Tele bridge.
  8. It dosn't look like thats going to be a problem. I mocked up a plywood body and clamped the neck in place today. The fingerboard will only extend 2.5 frets into the body on the horn side. And the heel follows the shape of the body on that side.
  9. I have been working on some new designs. I could use some other opinions on this design. Its a variation of a Washburn idol a Les paul and a Telecaster. The picture isn't the best so hopfully you can make it out. Let me know what you think.
  10. I saw that inlace stuff in Grizzly Industrial it looks like there could be some interesting possibilitys with it. Gibson must of used somthing like that on there voodoo series guitars. The red skull on an ebony fingerboard looks pretty cool.
  11. So far what Iv'e got has been very colorfull and transparent. It looks prety cool.I think Im going to keep adding more on top of the cured epoxy and sand some more.
  12. The colors are so vivid and I want to do alot more on the headstock and fingerboard. I'm planing to do flames up the fingerboard.
  13. Can't use fire on my headstock. I want to router out a design and pour it right into the cavitys. How about a heat gun?
  14. Iv'e been experimenting with clear 2 part epoxy and different color Rit dyes for inlays. I mixed the dye with alcohol and then added it to the epoxy. I must say I have been getting some brilliant colors. The only problem is when it drys and I sand it down it has tiny air bubbles. I can't see any air bubbles in the epoxy as I am mixing it. Does anyone have any experince with this?
  15. I voted for the Mesa. But I love my Budda.
  16. I thought antlers were hair like rhino horn they sure smell bad like burning hair when you cut them.
  17. What Is the reason for treating it ? is it for hardning it or for color ? The piece I have is many years old and pretty hard. jay
  18. I was thinking about trying a piece of deer antler to make a nut out of. I sawed up a nice rough shape the other day. This stuff is very hard and heavy seems alot like bone. I'm thinking maybe even some inlay possibilitys also. I was wondering if anyone has tryed this or if its a bad idea? jay
  19. heres a picture of my old harmoney archtop. mine was made so cheaply the fingerboard markers were painted on.
  20. I had guitar stands all over before and my wife complained [ How many guitars do you need anyhow!! ] Now since I built this stand it looks like there are alot fewer guitars down there. Maybe even room for one more. Jay
  21. This might be of interest to some. Heres a picture of a guitar stand I built out of scrap wood. Its pretty simple. The bottom rails are 1.25 dowls with foam pipe insulation. The top rail is lined with automotive grade foam tape. The design can be adjusted many different ways. Mine holds 7 guitars and has saved me alot of space. Jay
  22. Sorry about the Bondo crack 9956 ,I just couldn't resist. These guys really do know what there talking about around here. They just want you to end up with a nice guitar. Jay
  23. Yes its a 24" scale and the finish isn't that old. the guy I bought it from did it. runs, orangepeal, and sand marks. And no I wasn't going to turn it into a heavy metal machine. Just make it playable and give it a good finish. Jay
