1. Darn! I only left this topic for half a day expecting maybe 3 replies max but man i could not see why 2 pages ended up. But anyways, great thoughts guys, I myself at first did not believe the pricetage and everything until as mentioned before that my friend had bought one. Only complaint is that the santana is very heavy and bird inlays are not exactly the same but close enough. Exept from that everything else is perfect, the finish (a Drool!!!), pickups, same or almost as good as SDs, neck is so smooth and the body shapes and headstock seem quite similar to real prs. Oh ya the epoxy thing on the headstock might be the reason why this guy had sold on ebay, because I don't think there are any other of his products there.
2. I bet none of ya have heard of this: but my friend has one of their santana replicas and boy does it sound sweet! It is less than 1000 US$, but howeve double the tone and quality. It is a must for anyone wanting a cheaper but more out of the ordinary PRS. Here is the link: http://www.guitarandpickup.com/ Ash HK
3. Has anyone heard or have seen this website: http://www.do-in-music.com/Do-In-Products_English.htm They are located in where I live (Hong Kong), and the prices are just so cheap. Their pedals seem ok but I am not too sure. What are your opinions? Ash HK
4. Here's mine: Custom LP with Mahogany Back and Makore Top. Custom inlay on Pau Ferro Fretboard. Filteron pickup and 2 59' strat hum size Rotary Pickup selector, Overall Volume, and 3 Tone controls for each pickup. Ash Hk
5. If some of you dont know already, then here's a link: http://www.nymphusa.com/kisekae/kisekaeE1.asp Go design you masterpieces and show everyone what your dream guitar would be if you got offered a free custom guitar of your own choice regarding the fact that they could only be a LP, Strat, Tele, SG, JEM, SList, RG, V2, and etc. Have fun. (Rules: No more than 1 pic on each post) Ash HK
6. Nice Work. but is just me or are there 2 screws missing from the tremolo? Cool Top. I wish I could achieve that Ash Hk
7. I don't remember the name, but there is this guy in taiwan who sells massively inlayed stuff on ebay and some guitars that are as muchly inlayed as yours go check it out. Try searching on ebay something like "Inlay Fretbaord" or something etc and you should be able to track him down.
8. HI. I actually wanted to build my entire rig inscluding the amp and though that since I live in Hong KOng, and when I was those kits, basically we make those hammond boxes and I could get them cheaply for 5 Hong kong dollars(less than 1 US) and transistors and capacitors the staff of the shops will either throw it in for free or sell them super super cheaply. But this is my critial dilemma! I hate wiring diagrams and cant read them and need to see the real circiut board made then i just follow. Thats how I do it. And how the hell do you wire with circuit boards with only holes 25 arcoss and 25 down etc? the holes fill up the PCB. but when I see the clone pedals, they all hace PCB's which have copper lines at the back and wrds on the top!. Do I really need pro boards like that or the standard types with only holes do! Pls reply quick cos I am about to get it today hopefully. Ash HK
9. Haha All you fools! You guys thought i got it for $510 which is already cheap. 1 things to learn about is RggR is that even its cheap, when you get to know the tom lee staff, then you get a further discount. erm, I got mine for HKD$343 instead. haha!!! Cheers! Brain Calvert's shipping is exel.>>Highly recommended and nice figures on veneer. Ash HK
10. Yer I know. Did exactly what erikbojerik said and got maple top. Look: and then got some Seymours to throw in: Made a maple/rosewood neck: And dump a whole load of parts:
11. Hey, not only the fact that you are asking silly questions, but repeatingly asking questions again and again. lol. I haven't even started my 1st project and obviously i can already asnswer your question. 1. Yes! You need to route out the edge of your guitar to install binding 2. Use the right Glue and Router Bit 3. You can still do binding without the cut out rim, just that it would look gay and not right, basically like duct taping your guitar. 4. If this is your first attempt then I should warn you that the counter for the arm rest will become difficult and make sure you cut the end of the bindings correctly. Neways. Enough talking. Ash Hk
12. Gee Guys Thx for all the info. I seariously didn't know the tonal qualities and history Koa and even though in the end is now probrably going down the drain, I actually learnt alot through this topic. Maybe I should change the wood, coming to think of it, getting a Mahogany back and Koa top hollow strat body from warmoth would be cheaper than just getting the woods. I guess this project will either not be done, or a non-luthiery project. haha Cheers Ash HK
13. Why Don't Anyone think outside the box! Everyone thinks of typical brands such as Fender and Mesa! Even though I quite like the Mesa Nomad 55 (Out of Production), For use live and gigs I would use a "Gabriel Grand 18 Combo/Head" and http://www.gabtone.com/ For practice at home etc I would use the "Torres Tiny Tone" Amp - Sweet Sound, Low Volume! (Won't Disturb Flat Neighbours in Hong Kong) Some sounds of the Tiny Tone: http://www.tonefrenzy.com/sound_files/tiny-tone1.mp3 http://www.tonefrenzy.com/sound_files/tiny-tone2.mp3 http://www.tonefrenzy.com/sound_files/tiny-tone2.mp3 Ash HK
14. Is it Australian Blackwood? I did a little reseach. Also, if you look at the previous pic I posted, does it look like a soloist or strat style body? Ash HK
15. AN AUSTRALIAN ALTERNATIVE? WHAT IS THE NAME??? COS I AM GOING SOON TO VISIT MY AUNT. MAYBE I COULD GET COME IF IT IS CHEAPER!
16. Thanks for your help guys. Mattia. THanks for all the info and I know it will be tough but here would be a further breakdown. $500 would be my budget right? However, my parents would pay for shipping. Look: Gold Floyd Rose: (GuitarFetish.com) 69.95 Tuning machines: $21.95 Assorted hardware/electronics: $10 for Electronics and wiring etc. (Hong Kong is the cheapest place around cos everything is made in china and I live in it HEHE . Pickups: 2 Hum : 80-100 at me locals Alder/Ash body: ??? (suhr uses a whole koa body, not just a laminate) Neck materials (Koa/Pau Ferro): $40 <---- brobrably more than that i am getting from warmoths showcase...its cheaper Finish, disposables (sandpaper, etc): $barely nothing ($0.05?)casue HK is pratically giving away 3M stuff cos it is sooo cheap here...I also have 3/4 quart of KTM-9 left. SO anyways some may have gone more expensive and some not, but overall i may be able to cover it.. Ash HK
17. Hi, Does anyone know where I can purchase decent koa wood that is best bookmatched which is at a decent value but not ebay? I also live in Hong Kong so are there any suppliers that are nearby? I hear they are from Hawaii only and tends to be quite expensive. The reason i want nice koa is because for my second project, I may cosider replicating a suhr Reb Beach Model guitar because it is a beauty, however, I am a low budget 15 year old who cannot afford to buy a guitar retailed a USD$5,000 at least!!!! My budget is probrably $500 instead. This is the guitar I wish to replicate. I may change the headstock but nothing else. Maybe the pickups cos they are not cheap either. Ain't it just a wonder! Ash ...HK:player
18. It depends, I usually would use a mill rather than a righter because the cavities will come out very straight. with this method though, it would be better to cut cavities first before the shape cos the straight sides would come very handy. It also protects the guitar from damaging when using clamps. Thats just my opinion. I dunno if i am right. HK
19. thanks all. This has helped me quite a bit cos I was about to do trial and error until you guys stopped me! Cheers Ash..
20. but roughly? which more and which less?
21. I have two dyes which arrvied not long ago. They are from LMIi.com and one is blue, the other black. Does anyone know help much of each dye and distilled water to get such a finish: , And what proccess should I do to get this look? Like a base wash of black etc? I also live in Hong Kong. But does anyone know the paint brand "Plyox" or "Nippon"? Cos that is what I may be using for the back and the headstock. Thx HK
22. I've now got the templates on my computer, but how can I print them to the same size each. They dont have to be full size, just the same scale. Thx ROKEROS HK>
23. LOVE the body of the jazzclub and the layered headstock effect. Similar to a Brian Moore. Keep up the gd work Man! HK
24. Nevermind. I found it. Excellent Stuff Mattia Cheers HK
25. I know about the building guitar templates site. They are really good i know. But I won't need them because all my work will mainly be done on a milling machine and not a router. P.S (Mattia, I can't seem to find andy plans or templates on MIMF and you kindly mentioned?) would it be deleted or I missed it?) HK >Player
