  1. yes i have more than 1 vote! woo hoo! just that makes me glad. thanks mickguard for the brief comment. but I must admit that scott did a fab job. good work..usually awkward shapes like the SF3 puts me off, but this one really has some potential
  2. Yes it does sustain more doesn't it? I think it is because the vibrations from the strings tansmit from the body to the neck and back to the body instead of body back to the body causing less sustain that way

And remember, I am 16yrs of age and this is build #1 I would be glad if I get at least more than 1 vote. lol Thanks. Ash
  4. Why sure, if you want one, I'll give you a copy. lol! You think a 16yr old like me could afford bogners and cornfords and buddas??? Nah, I just use this: http://www.amplitube.com/Main.html?prod_AT
  5. I was planning and coming up with ideas for my next project and wondered if it is possible to do a fanned fret fretboard with a zero fret and the buzz feiten tuning system? Are there any problems with doing this? And where could get the plans for the fanned frets without a license? Because I will not sell this guitar probrably and if I do, its unlikely to the US.
  6. Thanks, it helped alot and is quite interesting. Here is what I ordered my fx pedals after reading the site: Guitar - Wah/Volume - Compression Sustainer - Overdrive Preamp - Distortion - Another distortion - Flange - Chorus - Delay - Bogner Tell me if i'm wrong or if anything that would be better in a certain place, however, I am quite confident that this is the suitable order.
  7. Overall, thanks for your thoughtful and relative comments. I guess that what I wrote in the first post was just a rush of adrenaline that I had for the quest to contrust the ultimate instrument after successfully completing my first. But I now understand and acknowledged the fact that guitars are built for personal preferences and not towards one target group. Or else what would be unique in guitars in the future? The more and more I look at the photos from famous luthiers around the world, I slowly compare it to mine and it was then that it hit me that I shouldn't step too far forward but to take one step at a time to reach my goal or else the chances of tripping and falling would increase. I hope that I have not caused any trouble or useless time of anyone's for this meaningless yet rewarding thread as I gradually realise that what I am seeking is basically the point of this forum and I'd like to thank people like Brian Calvert for being such an inspiration and for creating such a phenomonal place for people within the luthiery interest to interact and share ideas. Once everyone who have posted in this thread have read this I would like to delete this topic pretending that none of this has happened. So if moderators can you please close this read and whomever have posted here have read this post please PM me so that I can delete this thread ASAP. Thanks, Ash
  8. Ok, I am still fairly new to stompboxes and do not have alot of money to spend on fancy echo tape machines or some valve powered preamp. So last week after some research and scrolling through music123, I finally ordered the following: Rocktron Short Timer Digital Delay Morley Pro Series II Wah/Volume DOD Overdrive Preamp/250 Danelectro FAB Distortion Danelectro FAB Chorus Danelectro FAB Flange Boss DS-1 Distortion Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer The pedals have finally arrived today, but I am struggling trying to put the pedals in the right order. All I know is that delay should be last or after distortion and so goes with the wah. But thats about it? So for you who are experts on effects pedals, what would you recommend be my order of pedals from guitar to amp? Thanks, Ash
  9. Don't worry, I won't do anything amazing until probrably my 10th guitar at least, but I wanted to test these things out as I go along until I feel confident in what I do and whether I should decide to do it as a fun part time job or as a serious life alltering profession(highly unlikely, I want to do product designing)
  10. true, true, true. However, this is why I am dicussing with you builders on not on some frets.com or ultimateguitat.com forum. Okay. So to even more simplify more, guys. What do you find in a guitar that will increase sustain huh? We'll move on to other guitars in my mind later. And in MY OWN mind and experience I will judge MYSELF what is best that I want in the UltraversalSustainer.
  11. A did a quick 5 min search for guitar sustain and I found many ways unnoticable to the human eye to see that would increase sustain. This is for the UltraversalSustainer: http://www.cleverjoe.com/articles/guitarta..._headstock.html May seem a bit far fetched but it all adds up in the end I guess when all these myths are put together. I also hear that graphite necks are supposidaly able to get good sustain. And that Joint bodies and necks have increase sustain, so maybe a custom graphite neckthrough....I dunno..its making my brain work and this could help; http://www.graphtech.com/prodtusq.htm Quote from Stewmac:
  12. Ok I unserstand. Maybe its not just the ultimate guitar, but the ultimate universal guitar in some sense i guess. perhaps to make things simpler, I will seperate the guitar in to guitar(s) for different playing styles and I guess we will go with the UltraversalMetal, Ulttraversal jazz/blues/rockability, UltraversalSustainer, UltraversalClassicRocker etc..Anymore should be added/removed to the Ultraversal List? OKay, starting with the bridge, for metal I think the ideal and universal bridge would be a floyd rose with a tremol-no. Any disagreements. This is in terms of general styles and not personal preferences. Then I think for jjazzy brian setzer stuff I could go for a bigsby of some sort. This is just a rough outline of what I may soon add to my tiny hobbie in the future. then for general rock, then I dunno. Maybe not a trem, something special I am about to discover with the help of you guys. Please carry on guys. Flood this thread with suggestions
  13. THIS IS MY BIG 1... MY FUTURE IDEA... MODEL... SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN BEATING MY HEART VENTRICLES SINCE I BEGUN MY FIRST PROJECT...................... Some may find this hilarious, and they should, but I want to do something that no one has ever thought possible or would just seem like a whole load of crap.... I want to and there is no stopping my mind on building a series of guitars/basses with all the current technology and theories that mankind have research since the 30's when mr. rickenbacker discovered the electricrified fretted tincan. I know that I have just have only completed my first instrument, but luthiery is truly an addictive hobby all of you guys should understand. But I don't just think of my next build after completeing my first. I go beyond that to the 30th or 1000th guitar! There are just so many options that are avaliable for guitar and I want to try them all out. But then this stream of thoughts shortly ended when a stumbled on an idea that I could maybe combine all these options into one instrument. It sounds immposible I know, since there are different options and styles for different purposes, but what if the best of these compared with their advantages and disadvantages and maybe there could be one model for metal, one for jazz/blues/rockability, one for general rock etc...My mine is literally erupting like a volcano with ideas for my 5 empty years when I move to the UK for university. I have the space, now all I need are the plans, clients and the faith from all you noobs(me...) and pros (too many to mention) to forfill my craziness and desire. I want to build not just someone's dream guitar, but everyone's dream guitar, something that any person would see magnificant in that instrument from the truss rod to the straplocks to the sustain etcetcetcetc....... I would totally understand if you guys thinks I am a lunatic, and I don't blame you guys...I am myself quite overwhelmed to this moment. But I want to open this thread for ideas from finishing to woods to hardware to manufacturing methods and ergonomics in order to forfill the ultimate instrument. for example the other day, I was researching on finishings and neck joints, and who would have guessed that making neck wood contact body wood would increase sustain by 50%??? I mean its stuff and detail like this that I believe that people are missing out and if all the best of the best in guitars and basses are combined into one and not kept to themselves or as a company, then I truly think that the aesthetics, feel, and tone from this monstrosity will be beyond anything or anysomething on this earth. So please guys, I know I am pushing it, but could you guys maybe contribute to this thread and if successful, I think it wouldn't just benefit me, but to all you guys and you never know, may change the whole thinking aspect of fretted instruments to join all of God's created minds into one and share and think outside the box and I dunno. Something might happen.. But to start off and save from hands from numbing on the keyboard, I want to find out which truss rod is the best and currently I know that modern day two way truss rods are the ideal neck fixers and I also know that carbon fiber rods add sustain and make a neck stronger, but what else do you guys know that I don't. Soon when this is all done, I will write it all down in a list and share it to you all for easy reading. And secondly, I heard that using spray guns are better by far than rattle cans. I reasearched on SATA for their guns, but which one is best and why, thanks anyways. I need to shut up before I lose my account by ya, there you go... AsH There are no specific rules regarding posting format, but please don't use any formatting which forces people to scroll sideways - this is extremely annoying, and one of the reasons for restricting image size. Cheers
  14. Here: I got an email from line6 and may interest some of you bassists out there... http://www.line6.com/news/general/355/inde...bass_bpxtlpromo
  15. Yer, I did that when i strung it up for the first time however the angle is not massive but enough to stay on the TOM saddles after lightly opening up the groove with a thin chisel.
  16. I did originally try that, but then you should see the large stack of wires going to the cavity. Even the bridge pickup could not fit in the pickup rout afterwards cos thats where all the wires lead to. And I quickly strung up the guitar to show on pgforum. So I didn't have much time to setup and do final touch polishing. But from then on I have inserted the TOM threads so that it is 1mm below the height of the strings
  17. Ok, I wanted to see more videos about guitar building such as the wayne charvel collection and came across www.youtube.com and did a quick search to find the following interesting videos that may help some of you in many ways. Enjoy (GODIN SD may like this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUEQgQ8Z-uU...=guitar%20build
  18. Thanks for your informative comments Godin SD. Firstly, as you have spotted out, the top is not done outstandingly due to it being a veneer and it warped and bubbled vertically against the grain causing the dye seeping in the wrong places. I managed to flatten it out again with a hair dyer and my thumb pressing the high spots. Btw, thanks for the dying tip, I will remember that! Second, the ferrules are meant to slowly fan out slighlty from low E to high E but affected your POV because the high E was missing. The neck is not twisted and yes there is a gap from the neck and body. But with my vernier the gap only measured 0.35mm. I think the shadow must have enhanced the gap size. ( Somehow the router bit was larger than I thought...) And the TOM bridge is straight alright. Just that the shot is not exactly in front making it look slightly slanted.
  19. YIPEE My Rokeros AT1 is finally complete: I have learnt alot from this build and the biggest part that I have learnt is to be patient... NEways, here are some sneak previews: Initially, I was going to enter it for GOTM, but all on the May GOTM are probrably gonna whoop my ass so I need your opinions on whether this build is worth giving a shot in GOTM. (I am not expecting any wins with this one) Body Close Up: Body Whole: Body close up with slightly lit up bridge: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a120/rok...cs/DSC01819.jpg Close Up on fibre Obtic bridge lighting: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a120/rok...cs/DSC01818.jpg P.S. More pictures and better justice pics to come. PLZ COMMENT! ang once again to remind u guys...this is for my GCSE design technology coursework and i am still 15
  20. I used pattex to glue on the veneer to the alder body. Then I tried to dye with lmii water soluble. Now my top is very bumpy with like 12 rised humps as the wood contracts. How do I solve this!!!???
  21. Just 15 mins ago I applied black dye from lmii to my flame maple veneer which is stuck to my body, then as it dries, the wood kind of bends up and off the guitar!!!!!! HOw do I repair this...does it go back after time??? Currently I have a book on top to stop it rising!!! P.s. I may have been unpatient and added too much dye!
  22. blistering barnacles....project guitar forum has done it again to reveal artists as such. Amazing work btw...looks like that site with cool paints. Forgot what its called but I think it specialises in cars and the paints were like 500 a gallon.
  23. you sure seem like ur on a hurry with this project...I sure know I am...I have 4 days to finish off routing, paint, dye top, clear, wait patiently and then polishing by hand my "rokeros AT1" to hand in .
  24. We have four dust collection units custom made for my school. It is run through a central network in the building and then collect altogether in a 42hp cabin if you count it all together. So freakin damn noisy thoug! Its louder than a dying router.
