  1. Yup I'll handle setup. Just want to know how i can clean the guitar and its various parts without having to order GUITAR POLISH or FRETBOARD CLEANER. I read about Almond oil a long time ago while i was googling around. What exactly is Bee's Wax and what's it used for? Same for Mineral Oil. What is it? Thanks UncleTJ.
  2. Im gonna be changing strings on amy guitar and its actually a guitar that i am selling and i don't play but i wanna put new strings and set it up and clean it daily and stuff. I read that i can take a drop or 2 of almond oil and rub it on the fretboard. is that any good for the fretboard what else can i do for the body and the hardware and stuff?
  3. Thanks Mattia! What's good for learning how to inlays? From simple shark fin type inlays to custom designed patterns and stuff like the jem vine inlay and flames and techniques for cutting and something which explains the tools and stuf too and basically spoonfeeds you?
  4. i have to order all at once i cant get a book and order stuff after one month.

  6. if you have more than a few videos and books for one topic and you have time to write a small review or compare them for me i;d greatly appreciate it. ALso how good is a book. ALl there is pictures and guidelines. Is a video essential?
  7. Thanks. That kinda clears it up for me. Which companies license their products and designs besides Fender?
  8. If you build bodies under the name Fender then it will be illegal. But Brian (universaljems) mostly sells Allparts and WDmusic parts. Both sell necks and bodies liscensed by Fender. I know it's illegal to make a guitar put fender on it and sell it. The Same way you cant take my name and pose as me. But what do you mean by- it's licensed under fender. Does that mean that he has the legal permission to do so? Also i have a fender squire Stagemaster and on that it has a tremolo on which it says that it is licensed under floyd rose patents. Does that mean the same thing i meantioned above? Does itinvolve granting legal permission to make other companies parts identical and give reference to them as copied parts and sell them? I have gone through the thread on legal issues and i know more or less from what i have read, the difference between a patent and trademark.Trademark-for name..Eg. Fender(logo too) and Patent- for Design, measurements etc. So does that mean if i want to make an exact Rg replica and sell it with my name and give refernce to ibanez and say..FOR SALE! Jem REPLICA CUSTOM BLAH BLAH.. Do i need legal permission to do that...? And what if i dont say its an RG..then What ? Thats illegal too? Referrin to brian, or anyone else who does sell replacement bodies necks etc. Do they have or need to have legal permission to do so by the company and THAT the bodies which he or anyone else in selling is licensed seems kinda stupid, Why would me, Fender license my product and allow people to sell it. It's prob not gonna give me much, you know itslike giving soemthing on rent. so whats the point? IM DAMN CONFUSED!
  9. oh yeah they do, so as long as i dont make the ENTIRE guitar and sell it its not illegal?
  10. I just checked out the site and all the parts that are offered are mostly copies! Isn't that an ilegal activity to offer STRAT bodies, LES PAUL BODIES. Umm Replacement Bodies. Just wondering if that's legal or illegal...?
  11. yeah if i make it and keep it inside my house and stuff i dont think it will matter. I have a tremolo which says - licensed under floyd rose patents..what does that mean?
  12. Great! Kevan, what's a C&D letter? Cheating and drinking? lol.
  13. im gonna getm enough for modding my exisitng guitars and see what else i could use.. for making electric uitars..the book is prob melvin hiscocks book..and what about the video..should i get both ? or just get the video and a few plans maybe and same for finishgin can you recoomend one thing for each topic.. im sure finishing is covered in the making of the guitar but i wanna do inlaying more extensively.. so go ahead and reccomend something..and feel free to let me know what you did when you first got the book and what you made and how it helped you.. or tell me anything that helps... dont wanna waste money.. maybe later i was thinking i could collect and get ALL that i can but right now ill just concentrate on the basics. Thanks!
  14. there aren't? So tremolos are made out of what?..iron..steel..? im guessing prob the know how will be a pain..and the machinery will be quite expensive..who knows maybe i come up with something unique and different.. it might not be AS practicle as making a guitar where you're just messing around with wood which is comparatively easier to..um change the shape of..but im sure theres not MUCH of a difference and with a little practice on some cheap copies and what not dont you think its possible..maybe there are things i dont know and when and if i do take it up i might just realise ..hey..this aint possible its too expensive! and also maybe itll take TOO MUCH TIME UP..but i guess its kinda worth having an eight..custom with a split tremolo..to me atleast better than having a fixed bridge! But to what i am aware of right now.. man.. someones already done all of the work..i just have to study their work and expand on it.. not like im gonna sell the product its just for my use and theres always a possibility of coming up with something thats totally original.. ..and i might be allowed to gig with it..cause there are some leal issues which ill look into.. but even after that guess itall comes down to how much its gonna cost and how much time its gonna take... mand its actually worth it.. so what are bridges made of steel..iron? ..wool?..
  15. hmm a tremol no would be a complete waste if i can get a tremolo with an on and off switch. But what i still dont understand is why Floyd Rose would put it ONLY on a speedloader. How would i go about making a 6/7/8/ custom tremolo bridge if i find out what i need to do for it(i have no clue) how much would it cost? and how much would it cost to set up a home-ish shop for making custom bridges.. considering setting up your guitar workshop is now SO easy with so many resoursec and so much information.
  16. The SpeedLoader Tremolo offers all the versatility of the original Floyd Rose Tremolo™ with the ease and performance of the SpeedLoader System. You can still execute the most subtle tremolo or wildest dive-bombing effects and return to perfect tuning every time. The SpeedLoader tremolo also features the new Floyd Rose TremStopper that enables the player to block the tremolo system with a simple turn of a screw No tremstopper on the original. itd be kinda cool..would it be possible to understand what and how the tremstoppers stopping on the speedloader and then experimenting with making it on any other cheap floyd rose copy and using it for yourself at home and not marketing it.. .. also is it possible to make a splut floating bridge like the one steve vai has on one of hisguitars..preferably for an 8 stringer..?
  17. Here are some that i liked. I'm not gonna order any videos yet because i don't need to them. I'm only getting books to know how things are done and also to have a deeper understanding of things i already think i know. Probably After i have read enough i can start investing in tools. I have only gone through stewmac and i checked and those books are also available from amazon so i can order all the ones i found at stewmac along with the ever so famous melvin hiscock make your own electric guitar. So far i've found these interesting: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...y_Handbook.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...t_of_Inlay.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...s_Handbook.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...n_Lutherie.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...n_Lutherie.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/E..._Musicians.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/E..._Musicians.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/E...g_Diagrams.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/B...pair_Guide.html thats alot of books and you'll notice that i've linked atleast two books for inlaying finishng electronics..etc..ive just started searching so please help me add and narrow my choices down. Shipping is expensive!
  18. ill get abook and some videos, thanks for asnwering must have taken a little time typing. im so new to stuff that i just dont know where to start i guess if i buy a video on fretting i could get started and maybe all the terms which i didnt understand or processes will come clear and alsoill buy some good books on guitar making and woods and finishing. thanks man..itll be a long timenow before i ask stupid questions again and again but im just not finding the answerrs itts not gonna fall in my lap im gonna have to work at itt.. also there are SO many tools and so many ways to go about and the tutorials arent very precise i gues theyre just good info and good to read for a first timer, but beyond that i need more info as im a complete noob to saws and the processes involved. Just one last question.. after im done fretting is there any way of mathematically telling that fretting was asuccess by measuring the heigts etc setting the action etc.. without having to actually play on it and checking for buzzing uneveness..what i mean is without actually playing and only measuring can i be certain of how accurate my fretting work is.. and also for setting an action and etc..?its possible right bec i was reading through the fretting mysteries thread and read half a page and poeple who posted were saying oh youll only know once you play on it etc.. so..?
  19. it really doesn't matter is i slot the fretboard before or after i taper it does it? when i get a fretboard blank, i will have to taper it, and make it fitable on the neck and then i will have to slot it? adn thensaw the slots, or the markings and then the rest, which i have no idea about i have seen some tutorials fretting i will go through them.. and move ahead, but are the processes i described right, taper the board..slot it, saw the slots and then ? am i wrong here? i wanna make a new board for my neck and ineeded to see what all tools i need and more importantly what to do.. there are so many saws, the one at stewmac exclusively for fretting has somekinda system that prevents you from sawing extra and goin too deep.. could you please explain the process and the tools needed i have gone through the tutorials and searched but none of them have been very precise and i didnt even think of tapering and i what is the size of the blanks usually available and does sanding the fretboard have any relation to neck angle.. thanks man, im really lost. EDIT: also i don wanna waste money on a tool which can only be used for fretting when there might be a tool such as a gents saw or a tenon saw which can be used for frettin and sawing other stuff too....?
  20. the angle finder used in the tutorial for making a neck in the tutorial section, the first tutorial, just skip over to the fretboard slotting part..is that the angle finder you're talking about and i checked stewmac but the one they have is for violins and looks and seems dif from what i read and saw.. in the tutorial he straiht edges the retboard and then uses an angle finder to mark the frets(thats slotting?) and after that he saws.. do i really need an angle finder to slot the fretboard and whats a gents saw? before he saws the frets, he used something to make lines to mark the frets what is that? STUPID ME i shoulda googles but after looking around at stewmac i didnt bother just decided to post here.. thanks for answering// EDITL: ill research a bit on cam clamps and others too beffore ordering some they had cam clamps at stewmac but they didnt look clamp-like enough or atleast lie the clamps whici ve seen in tutorials
