  1. as Wes stated, it is fairly similar to the original supersonics pocket. Thanks for the comments guys.
  2. Here is where I'm at tonight.....I added a couple coats of clear and the decal. Now the clearing begins.
  3. Here is where I'm at tonight.....I added a couple coats of clear and the decal. Now the clearing begins.
  4. I added two more layers of the amber tint and it darkened it up to a nice color. I think my problem was I only had two layers of tint on and it wasn't enough to get a deep color. Looks a lot better. thanks for the info guys.
  5. hey mike. I have laid down a coat of clear lacquer over the tint to see if it was going to change the color and it helped a little bit. what do you have in mind to fix it?? I am doing major overtime at work and I do not get off until after 7 every night.
  6. well i bought the vintage amber in the aerosal can. so mixing really isn't an option.
  7. I am in the process of finishing my neck and I have applied two coats of Stewmacs vintage amber and it is REALLY yellow. I bought from stewmacs versus reranch because I thought that ReRanch's looked really yellow but dang.....this is yellow. Is there anyway I can get this neck to match more closely to my strats neck? Any ideas on how to tone down the yellow would be great. Here it is in comparison to my '62 strat. \ It is WAY more yellow in person that the pictures show.
  8. I guess I will go ahead and update this. Maybe someone is reading this. haha. well the body is done and is curing started laying some lacquer down on the neck. ready for clear sealed one coat of amber tint two coats of amber tint
  9. The body sealed and primed. Going to be laying down some color today. then the clearing begins. I'm still doing some work on the neck, but plan on starting the finishing process soon on it as well. I also have the pickguard template made and have the material, so I will be making that this weekend.
  10. so does anyone have actual experience with the ones he has labeled as "high output zebra set"? Not the hexbuckers. I am leaning more toward the power rails from GFS than the guitarheads right now.
  11. I am about to start the finishing of my current build and I am trying to think through the whole process of finishing my neck. I just want to make sure what I am thinking would be the best way to finish the neck. 1- first spray a few light coats of Deft sanding sealer. 2- lightly sand smooth 3- apply amber tint 4- spray a few light coats of laquer 5- apply headstock decal 6- spray a few light coats of laquer 7- start with heavier coats of laquer 8- polish neck Is this the basic idea of what I need to do? I am trying to figure out what type of amber tint I should get? I would rather buy something locally rather than buying it online. Is there some amber tint I could buy locally? any brand names, types, ect. would be appreciated. Here is the neck
  12. does anyone use capacitors from radio shack versus buying them online from a supplier? I am in need of a .1uf cap for my EMG and dont' want to deal with shipping for such a small item. what are the differences between these? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search
  13. what guitarheads passive set would you guys recommend for a good heavy sound?
  14. Has anyone tried out the new GFS power rails or Crunchy rails yet? I am interested in these for my current build. Also Has anyone tried the high output zebra set from Guitarheads.net? just wondering if anyone has any experience with these pickups?
  15. A quick mockup after I got the nut slotted, fretted, tuners installed, and string trees installed. My dog seems to approve of it.
  16. man Mike. That is looking outstanding! Maybe I will get a chance to come over and check it out soon.
  17. olympic white with a mint pickguard. There should be a photoshoped picture of what I want it to look like on the first page.
  18. I recessed and installed the TOM....and installed the string-thru ferrules http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4778.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4775.jpg
  19. I used superglue. I filled any imperfections with sanding dust from sanding the neck and put superglue on that. there are some flaws that are visible but nothing horribly noticable. Maple sure does try to split and tear out when drilling on the smaller frets.
  20. I guess I will go ahead and update this thread. even though it hasn't gotten any replies recently. I have done my first inlay job. I used some aluminum tubing as a outline and inlayed some abalone dots inside the aluminum tubing. Here is how it turned out.
  21. Wow, Mike. That looks great. I really like how that turned out. You sure have done some work since the last time I saw it. I am making some headway on mine as well!
  22. Well I have done some more work on the neck. I have it all shaped and I added some side fret markers. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4710.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4723.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4725.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4726.jpg I also routed the neck pocket. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4741.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/stret...ng/IMG_4738.jpg
  23. what did you use for the inlays surrounds? and what was the process of putting them into the fretboard?
  24. I am thinking about doing pearl dots instead of solid white. this will give it some color and definition but it will still be subtle. Will the tinted clear have a major effect on the pearl dots? I will be using the pearl dots from stewmac.
  25. Has anyone used white dot inlays on a maple fingerboard? I was wondering how that would look? I will be using a tinted clear on the neck as well. Does anyone have a picture of this?
