1. The pics at Guitar Project main site are not all there.Does anyone have a step by step with pics for scalloping a fretboard?
2. Dumb question #1...Do you have to mask the frets?
3. I thinks I might do that, but, how the heck did you do that with that pic??? That is trippy
4. Here's a few more pics and with the head painted. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/Ima.../Picture005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/Ima.../Picture004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/Ima.../Picture003.jpg
5. This is the first refinish I've done.Since this photo has been taken I have striped the head. The body is???,I had it laying around and decided to play around one day.The neck and electronics are cheap Behringer. The funny thing about them though is I found a smashed Behringer on the streets of San Fransisco where I was working. They were good to go so I used them, the body was completely trashed. The pickguard is also painted. The thing sound fair and plats nicely.Any way you guys are the experts, what do you think???
6. My thoughts exactly,it was just something I heard and was curious.
7. So you pull them up not knock them out from the side? So I guess it doesn't end up ripping the wood of the fret board?
8. PM me with your email and I can send you step by step pics,if you'd like.
9. Well its been about a year and things look ok.Not soft and has a good shine.Do you think I might have any problems later down the road?I hear that Gibson and the likes wait at leasr 6 months after the clear is appied before they do the finish sanding.Any ideas on that?
10. I have a few old necks to practice on,can someone tell me how to remove frets?
11. Does anybody know how to chrome a guitar like Satriani?
12. I've already got a Peavy 5150 II so I'd take a Line 6
13. Yes it is maple. Thanks,as far as finishing goes I suppose I would use a sealer and a finish, correct?
14. When they talk about finishing a neck is it just the head and back or do you have to put finish on the fret area also?
15. Now that is a lot of cool knowledge there, one thing is missing.I want to refret a neck. How do I remove the old frets?

17. Hi I'm a new guy here new to refinishing guitars and would like to learn the tricks, techniques, methods etc... Possibly eventually build a guitar from the ground up. About me been playin guitar for about 21 years and am facinated by every aspect which brought me here. I am a painter by trade for some 15+ years.I do however have little background in automotive and fine finishes, other than what I learned in apprenticeship school.I have worked extensively with many types of epoxies, fillers, urethanes, poly esters fiberglassing, latex(includung waterborne epoxies) and many types of organic and inorganic zincs as well as marine and industrial coatings.I don't know all there is to know about painting and am willing to learn and accept critisism(which I have already done ) Well that's it for now,I hope to learn alot here I have been looking for a place like this for a long time and have imported some wisdom thus far by scrolling through the forums.I should stop as I think I'm gonna just ramble on
18. First I'm not argeing with anybody.I am a painter by trade and have over 15 years expierence with what is mostly considered exotic coatings ranging from epoxies to poly esters to many forms of latex and urethanes. I am new however to refinishing guitars and automotive types of finishes. If I gave bad advice I appologize.I have done several guitars in much the same way as I had explained.I know with certain paints less is better. Now with that out of the way I would like to ask rhoads 56 if I might encounter any problems later down the road with this type of finishing?I used Krylon spray cans and each coat was merely a mist coat which did take 5 coats to cover. The last guitar I finished took about a year for the paint to harden enough to set in a stand or against anything else for that matter.I have several projects on the shelf, and though this is mainly a ,for me I would like to do things properly. Thanks for your help and I hope to learn much from you guys
19. I'm talkin bout usuing rattle cans, which take twice as many coats as opposed to a spray gun.I should have mentioned the coats are very light and take up toe coat fivs to cover.
20.
Whats the best thing to use to paint a body if you dont have access to a spray?
ou can use a brush,BUT,be prepared to do ALOT of sanding.
21. The links at project guitar concerning refret crown are not working.Does anyting and fret level &one know where else those articles can be found?
22. You can find them on ebay sometimes. That's the only place I have found them.
23. You will have to sand the entire body, apply the masking and spray the red.Unmask and then you will need to apply several coats of clear. Then finish sand.
24. You can actually use Krylon in the spray cans.It is a polyurethane enamel. If you're frankenstriping, why not do it the way Eddie did?The only thing you need to remember is it will take 5 coats per color. After each coat wait at least three days before masking for the stripes.when all striping is done app;y 20 coats of clear. The tough part is here, after the clear you should wait atleast 3 months before doing the finish sanding.after which you should wait another three before applying any pressure to the painted body. It's time consuming, but it is cheap and well worth the wait.I just finished a Frankenstrat that way and it is very nice.I'll post pics here eventually,p.s.I'm a newbie here
