  1. There also used to be a course in Leeds which was excellent, best time I had in my life was when i was there. Was 2 years learning how to make a Bolt on neck electric guitar, as well as learning to repair guitars. was a 4 day a week course alternating between making and repair each day and then there was the HNC year in which it was the same but you made a neck through and more in depth repairs. The tutors there were brilliant. unfortunatley the powers that be closed it down cos they were dicks. it was supposed to be moving to another site but they pulled out at the last minute and there was no back up plan for this. So the course had no where to go, so our 2 year course was cut to 1 year, teachers were out of a job and one of the best guitar courses around was shut down for good which sucked big time as it had been going for many years. There is currently an acoustic making course in Moston College in Manchester, and maybe in time an Electric version of this course if the ppl in charge can agree on everything. but they are few and far between thats for sure, which is a damn shame
  2. I got myself a japanese combination waterstone and a honing guide, you place the plane blade or chisel in the guide with a certain amount of blade sticking out (the guide has marks on coresponding to certain degrees that are most common) so pick the one corresponding or nearsest the angle of your plane blade and just basically roll away down your stone. You end up with nice uniform sharp blades easy peasy takes no time at all. I get alot of my tools from this place in the UK www.axminster.co.uk
  3. Thanks for the comments guys, I'm gonna scrap the neck because I carved it to thin, but rest assured things will not go to waste, Fingerboard, truss rod and inlay will find a good home on my some of my other projects. and the rest of the neck will turn into various size dowels and such.
  4. Hi am new to the forum and know how people like pictures and stuff so thought I'd give it a whirl. Here's a Metallica Ninja star logo I did a year or so back, on my explorer that i am building. shame the neck is going to be scrapped as I am not happy with the thickness and such, anyway live and learn. this was actualy done as an experiment to see if i could manage it or not, and it didn't turn out too bad it's only made of pearloid scratchplate material or mother of plastic as we used to call it. I changed the angle on it so it sat level with the fret as apposed to the ESP one which is point end towards the fret. anyway here it is... if I figure out this picture posting bit.
  5. Cheers It's basically so i can get my tech drawing all up to spec first and make sure everything seems to line up on paper before I attempt it. As I prefer to see it on paper first and see how everything looks and then I know what all my measurments are going to be. I've have a good look on the internet and found a few measurments and such so i'll use them, to calculate my measurments Cheers
  6. Hello everyone, this is my first post and I must say having a quick glance through some of the post already done it's a cracking site. well onto the the question, I have made a couple of Guitars one Neck Through and one Glued, but i used a Gibson Style TOM bridge for these and the lowest setting for this bridge with enough string clearance over the fret was something like 13-14 mm it was a while back so forgive me if i am a few mm out anyway I've decided to make a my new one with a Schaller Licensed Floyd Rose bridge (licensed to try and keep cost's down) and Glued in neck. But am unsure as what the lowest setting for this style of bridge is so I can determin the proper angle for the neck as I've not got a trem guitar to hand at the moment or the funds to purchase said trem as of yet. any help would be gratefully appreciated thanks alot Jimmy
