Introduction And Some Finished Work
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
Here are a couple of shots of some recently finished "unfinished" work, now in Sweden. The guitar was sold in its bare state, ready for the new owner to apply their own finish... I will no longer do the PRS inlays...- 23 replies

Introduction And Some Finished Work
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
Reposting links to some of the images originally posted at the start of this thread - unfortunately, deleted with my PhotoBucket account. I am only posting finished guitars, as opposed to selected progress shots but they highlight, what is essentially, the purpose of this thread... "Some Finished Work". Over the coming year, although I will continue building to customer spec, I will be promoting a number of original guitars from Serpentine Guitars. In the meantime, enjoy these... 1. The first guitar showcased is one of my earliest; fixed bridge Super-strat (DC shape) with faux-neck-thru detail. 2. Our next guitar was a commissioned build; C*nklin-style body (Ash with Buckeye Burl top), Birdseye Maple/Purpleheart (five-piece) neck and Ovangkol fretboard. 3. "Double Cutaway" inspired commissioned build w/ Gotoh hardware, Kent Armstrong pickups and Purple Sparkle finish. 4. Commissioned baritone DC - Sapele body with bookmatched Wenge top, Maple/Ebony/Sapele/Ebony/Maple laminate neck and Madagascar Rosewood fretboard. 5. Commissioned build; Mahogany RR-style body, Maple/Black Walnut/Maple neck, Schaller Roller (TOM) bridge, Hipshot machine heads and IronGear "Steam Hammer" pickup. 6. One of our stock builds; carve-top Mahogany DC with Maple/Ebony/Sapele/Ebony/Maple neck and Madagascan Rosewood fretboard, Gotoh hardware and EMG pickups.- 23 replies

Serpentine Guitars Build Thread #SG1013
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
Getting closer to finishing stages, just some drilling for the bridge (WD Music humbucker spaced fixed bridge made by Gotoh factory) and final sanding to be done... Edges still to be rounded over properly... A couple of revealing photos that will please a few of you who have been asking for them...- 24 replies

Thank you bob123 Being a commission build, the client only wanted the headstock face veneered. However, on this occasion, it would be a shame to hide any more of that Rosewood- 24 replies

Serpentine Guitars Build Thread #SG1013
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
Looks as good as the clearcoat finish... What to look out for is the stain lifting as the oil is rubbed in, leaving a patchy finish. Avoid this and once the first coat is on and cured, there shouldn't be any further issues.- 24 replies

Serpentine Guitars Build Thread #SG1013
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
To be honest, I rarely paint or clearcoat my guitars, preferring oil finishes which don't present so much of a problem when it comes to the sharp edges of the curves. Thanks crazygtr- 24 replies

Back after a few months' absence, I have been working on various large projects, including guitar repairs and a number of forthcoming commissions. At the moment, I have one priority build in progress that I picked up a couple of weeks ago after a break from, which is a standard Superstrat carve-top. I have decided to add an element of curiosity and surprise to my future threads, so don't expect to see the full picture until the guitar is finished. So, to start us off, here's a run down of what we have achieved so far with build #SG1013... The body is a two-piece Ash with 17mm thick Flame Maple top: The neck is one-piece reclaimed Indian Rosewood with Ebony fretboard and Flame Maple headstock face: Custom inlays are a copy of the PRS 513 birds, recesses routed with a 0.8mm Dremel bit: Paua Abalone inlays glued in and cleaned up: Work has started on the body's carve-top - rough contours routed in steps, ready for hand carving. The full carve depth is 9mm, with 8mm depth left in the Flame Maple for faux-binding: This build will continue shortly with more photos - watch this space!

Fs (Uk): Tele-Style Shaped American Ash Body Blank
SerpentineGtars replied to SerpentineGtars's topic in The Marketplace
PS. UK shipping is included in the price! -
I'm moving home/workshop and need to clear out a bit - including unfinished projects that I'm not going to get finished in the near future. I have a quartersawn Wenge neck blank (AAA graded, 1" thick) neck w/ scarf joint, 12 degree headstock angle and double-action truss rod already installed. Glued to the neck is a bound Ebony fretboard - 24 frets @ 650mm scale length (a couple of mil longer than 25.5"). Nice project! £60 plus £5 shipping (UK only, sorry). Thanks

Fs (Uk): Tele-Style Shaped American Ash Body Blank
SerpentineGtars posted a topic in The Marketplace
I'm moving home/workshop and need to clear out a bit (and recoup some of the cost of moving) - including unfinished projects that I'm not going to get finished in the near future. First up, I have a one-piece American Ash (AAA graded) body blank, thicknessed to 1.75" and routed to shape (Tele-style with refined cutaway/horn - not as fat as Fender). Small tear-out in cutaway to be sanded out (see second photo)... £50 plus shipping (UK only, I'm afraid) Thanks -
Haha! Well, I had hoped to have the Paua inlayed by now, but due to moving house in a week's time, everything is up in the air at the moment and it's slowed progress down. Could be a few more days now, I'm afraid.

Had a spare hour this afternoon to start work on the inlays - design (PRS 513 birds) copied to fretboard (on masking tape), cut out and routed with the Dremel... Should be able to reveal the finished fretboard at the weekend

Well, we can agree to disagree on this one. They both clearly use the same inspiration off of PRS, so to compare them to each other seems silly to me, especially with the clear differences in style (Serp is ADDING material, ormsby is REMOVING). That said, it is what is at this point, I don't feel like this was anything malicious or foul minded. I just don't feel its fair to call this guy a "rip off" of ormsby is all. Not sure about the PRS "inspiration" but thanks for your support. I will say now that as far as I'm concerned, this matter has been fully addressed directly with Perry Ormsby and I don't really have anything else to say on the matter. New update photos on the build itself will be coming soon - I'm about to do the inlay work (PRS 513 birds... I wonder if this will open up a new debate?)
