  1. Hey sorry guys my digitat camera went capootski today I'll see if I can't barrow a friends tomorrow.
  2. Yeah I wil get pics first thing monday and post them that evening right now all the wood is over at the music store because that much wood can't be transported to easilly so about how long do I have to get it cut before problems. Also if I am going to be able to get more I will have to cut it in smaller pieces so how would I cut it shape wise as to not lose any good guitar pieces.
  3. Well guys yesterday I came across quite a amazing find I went in to the local music store where I hang out slash work pretty much every day " Me and the guy who run the shop are good friends" anyway so me and him are outside letting Rex the shop dog out to go to the bathroom and we start hearing the buzz of chainsaws so naturally when we went inside we went and looked out the front door to what was going on and surprisingly these workers were cutting down this beutifull old tree so me and him went across the steet to find out why they were doing this. When we got threre I saw some of the most gorgeous wood I have ever seen. So we went and talked to one of the guys and he said he was cutting it down cause it was dead wich it wasn't cause there was still sap in it we asked him what they were going to do with it and he said take it to a dump sight and burn it and we were horrified we couldn't believe it. We were telling him do you know how much this is worth this beutifull wood at least a couple thousand dollars. Then he said really? even old sugar maple like this and both are ears shot up when we heard maple and I start doing math in my head cause the building the music store is in was built in 1901 so the buildings across the street probably were to and tree was big enough back in 1901 that they based the layout of the street around it so they didn't have to cut it down to as much work as possible so this maple tree was at least a couple hundred years old if not more. So we ask if we can have it he says legally I can't but after we leave what ever you guys do is fine and what ever is here monday gets taken away. So we wait till they leave and we head over with his trailer that he uses to haul gear and take as many limbs as we can get then me and him worked for about 2 hours to get the gig daddy the stump this thing is about 5 ft. in diameter and probably ways 2 tons but with the aid of my dads big car jack we finally got it in there. But the real story is living in this tree were 2 baby blue jays that had ben abandoned so I grabbed them and took them home. I fed them some baby bird formula I got at petco then this morning I took them to the local nature center where from there they will take them to a animal sanctuary where they will take care of them and release them back to the wild when they get old enough. p.s. Does ayone have any information sugar maple as far as guitars go.
  4. Yeah normally when I get done finishing a guitar I use a 3m machine polish called finishing it. It comes in a black bottle and can be found at most automotive stores I usually get it from o reily.
  5. I gues you could drill out the abalone fill the holes with a rosewood dowl then stain it black to make it look like ebony.

  7. Hellow a while back I purchased a stanlial on the ey spokeshave lick like the one seen in the neck tutorial on the page and I have ben able to use it with much success everytime it just makes short gouges as aposed to long shaves like I have seen in pics and videos I have sharpened it numerus times and have gone through a wide range of depth setings.
  8. Right now I am also in the process of doing a sg and I am in the final stages of clear coating but how I went about achieving the cherry red to where I was satisfied with it was first I used bartleys walnut grain filler that I got from reranch this does 2 things not ony does it fill the grain and make it to where it really pops it also prestains the wood so when yo put stain on it gives it areally 3 diminsional deep wine red. Then how I mixed the red was I did the rcomended stew mac mix of cherry red with denatured alchohol then I just added some red mahogany stain till I was happy with it.
  9. I have ben looking up information on that solvaset stuff and it sounds like great stuff but I have just a few questions the first one is I have read that it dries very quickly and since I am not very expierienced in this would it work best to use water to soak and position it then apply the solvaset to get it tolay flat cause I have read its possible to delute it with water so it sholdn't be aproblem. Also solvvaset shouldn't harm the decal like the inks or anything I assume it shouldn't since lacuer won't but better safe than sorry all help is apreciated cheers mate.
  10. I recently have aquired a gibson cellulose waterlide decal from the mid 70's are there any special tricks or advice I shoul take into consideration before applying it.
  11. I am using a alchohal based cherry red stain after I sprayed vinyl sealer I got a runan sanded it out but whhile sanding sanded throught to wood in a little spot so I put som stain in that area and resprayed the sealer but you can still see the sand through because it's lighter is it possible to put stain over the sealer and spray more sealer to darken a area cause I would prefer not to have to sand down to wood again.
  12. what size roundover bit should I use for a flying v.
  13. You could always try some Iommi style crosses or maybe even lighting bolts.
  14. Ok I am doing a sg so far I grain filled with a walnut oil based filler then aplied a alchohal cherry red stain then I aplied behlen vinyl sealer the first coat went fine but when I went to put on th 2nd it ate through to the red and globed up so how should I fix this.

I got mine from one of my buddies who builds muskets and rifles you should be able to find it at any local gunshop and if they don't have it they'll know where you can get it but now that you mention it tru oil sounds right to me but I just wiped it on and built it up and didn't sand till it wass good and hard.
  23. I am not sure if this is what you need but I have used gunstock oil successfully on a birdseye tele neck and turned out really good and haven't had any problems with it.
