  1. would you need special paper with that or a special print procedure?
  2. Does anybody have any info on how to make decals look like the decals that are on original guitars. I have waterslide decals but they are all flat, the original decals look almose 3-D, like the letters have thickness to them. How do I get that look?
  3. the truth of it is, if your spraying a car they might not be as good as the guns running for 500, but for guitars they work just fine. I dont belive you need a high priced gun to spray nice finishes. If you dont know what your doing a 500$ gun wont help any either. I use all kinds of guns but none have ever totaled over 100. I just got the two pack for 60 bucks from harbor freight and I'll be using it soon. They work just fine dont waste your money.
  4. good points, thats for the help

  10. I ask because I want to add a dummy coil to my strat but keep it as stock as possible. With the dummy coil to cancel the hum the dummy needs to be close to the pickups value, I was wondering if I hook the dummy coil up to a pot would I be able to adjust it to match each pickup better?
  11. I was sitting in my shop and a thought came to mind, Would it be possible to hook a pickup's leads to a pot and change the pickups value in your guitar?
  12. Does anyone know where I can get some wood samples to test run finishes?
  13. As I understand it wire thats on most pickups is Standard meaning there is more than one piece of wire wraped together and soilderd, Can Solid strand wire be used?
  14. Yes guitarfrenzy I would, as for the other topic. Don't worry I dont take it personally, I have searched this forum extensively. I do not plan on reselling this neck, not everything is about money. I've never liked the preslotting idea, the way I'm going to slot the neck is going from the nut down the neck and will be based on how the neck fits on the body. To me that sounds more accurate, atleast for what I'm doing. I'm not worried about the slotting, as long as I'm cautious it should go well. also, when I got the neck I didn't have much of a choice, couldnt leave it like it was and I didnt have 800 to shell out for a pro job.
  15. As for why I replaced the fretboard, I bought it for 400 dollars along with the neckplate. The guitar had been in a fire and the body was too bad to use. The guy who had it replaced the fingerboard, but he had no idea what he was doing, the fingerboard was more like a veneer when he was done so I took that off and replaced it with a nice thick piece of brazilian rosewood, I would have slotted the fingerboard first but I wanted a perticular part of the grain to go on the neck. I've still searching my options on how I'm going to do the slotting, as of right now I'm planning on marking where the nut is going to go and then measureing down from there and doing the slots by hand. I had the job quoted and it was going to be 800 dollars for a new fretboard so I figured why not try for myself. If you want I'll post some pics let me know.
  16. Does anybody have any experience with the stew mac neck jig? I replaced a fingerboard on my 59 strat neck and I've already put it on my neck, it needs to be slotted and a radius put on it. My question is would it be best to put the neck on the body and than strap it to the neck jig and put the radius on the neck in the jig?
  17. I do alot of relicing...I guess thats were most of my use goes
  18. I have one and I love it, but mainly for jobs where theres not alot of room. As for inlays, I think the biggest downfall to this dremel is that it has about as much rpm as the regular ones but it bogs down alot quicker. But dont get me wrong its a great tool, but its doesnt replace my regular dremel completely. I think its worth the 60 bucks I paid for it.
  19. I need some help, Most places say that Strat scale length is 25.5, but there are some places that say 25.25 and when I measure were Stew Mac says to measure I get 25.25. So what is it?
  20. I've read threads on curing nitro with UV light. One of the biggest problems was that it would cure the top layer but not the other layers. Would it work to cure each layer, maybe even just a little to keep it from totaly uncuring under the final coat. what your thought.
  21. I'll trade you a 62' 100% original Bandmaster Head
  22. I'm replacing a fretboard and I'm wondering, how thick does the neck have to be (at the heal and in general) in order to get the right clearence over the frets. Would I be able to put a thicker fingerboard on the neck and still be alright? I'm thinking it might accentuate the sound that rosewood has on the tone.
  23. Whats better a curved nut slot or a flat nut slot? I would think the flat slot would be better because it would make the nut bigger and have a better sound, but alot of guitars have a curved slot now days. Any thoughts?
  24. Which cap would be better, a Sprague Vitamin Q or a Mallory film capacitor. I know theres more to it than good or bad but does anyone have any idea of which would be better?
