  1. the fingerboard was straight it was the clamps in the middle were pushed out. I was thinking about using a Iron from stewmac and heating the middle and try reclamping it because the ends are tight.
  2. I just recently glued a new fingerboard on my strat neck and it seems the middle isnt completely glued tight. Its about .023 away from the neck. about a fret size. My question is what is the best way to heat the glue up and tighten the fingerboard or do I even need to if there isnt a big bow in the neck?
  3. Well I'll see what I can do, I have a MIG welder and I'll find some metal. Ill have to use some of your ideas but we'll see. Thanks
  4. It's not a veneer its a slab and I'm buying a blank fingerboard and putting it on. and than I'll put the fret slots in
  5. only since mid 62 this is a 60 neck.
  6. ya it doesn't have one, I would have never removed it.
  7. What is the best way to replace the fingerboard on a strat neck. I have a 60's neck without a fingerboard and I need to conserve the original maple as much as possible.
  8. Does anyone out there know the details on how to make a Steelcaster. I really like James Trussart's work but I wanted to try to make a Strat instead of a Tele. any thoughts?
  9. I've been searching through the archives and have a question. My guitar I'm making is going to have 3 single coils and they work best (according to most) with 250k pot. I understand that 250k make the sound warmer and 500k make the sound brighter and in some cases give a little higher output. My question what would happen if I used a 250k pot for the volume and first tone and a 500k for the last tone so it would control the middle and the bridge tone? Would that bright up the output for the bridge and middle pickup? I'm planning on having a diffrent cap for each pickup...if that helps
  10. now we can see where the quality was traded for quantity... ...oh well
  11. I'm looking for some vintage pots 250k, does anybody know where I could find some? Ebay hasen't seem to have them and I've looked everywhere.

    Base Plate?

would it be better with some tape on the bottom of the plates before I put them on with wax or should I just use the bare metal and no tape, I bought some and they have tape on the bottom and I was wondering if it made a diffrence.
  13. I was just wondering if anybody knows the effect if you were to put base plates on all three pickups? I've asked around and nobody really has any knowledge about this, I have a set of Vintage 62' original Strat pickups and was wondering if it would work to but them on all three. The pickups are all original but the leads have been cut down to about 1" a piece so I feel these are good to experiment without totally ripping these apart.
  14. try shaking the jar, somtimes the steal wool will be breaking up but you dont know. I just did this with some actually heavier grit steal wool and it works, you might jut need a few more coats than the stew mac dye.
  15. Whats better for a sunburst stain finish, Alcohol or Acitone. Can you mix them?
  16. So I'm planning on putting a Dummy coil in my Strat. I know the results of putting one in, change in tone and so forth. What I was wondering was, I know the dummy coil is supposed to match the pickups but would it work for three single coils if I took all the readings of my pickups and found the average and wound a coil to match that?
  17. Does anybody know where I can get some formvar wire?
  18. I think it was a resistor on a amp's output jack.
  19. I was wondering what a resistor does when hooked to a jack of a amp or guitar. I've heard of this and I was just wondering what it was for. I would search for this but I wouldn't know what to look for.
  20. I'm setting up a spray booth and I was wondering what type of filter I should use to place over the exhaust fan?
  21. what kind of paint booth is that, I've never seen one of those?
  22. as for the build up on the sand paper, when dry sanding I always use a wire brush and clean of the paper every once and a while it makes the paper go a long way.
  23. If anybody is looking for a custom SRV replica I have a auction up for one. I have been making these for years and have extensive knowledge about Stevie's #1. I use all Genuine Fender parts and I even use the same tuners that Stevie had and that are on the Fender Tribute SRV model. Any questions feel free to ask. oops...forgot the address http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
  24. I understand what diffrent caps do but I dont have a bunch of guitars actually I only have one, and its original and I dont wanna mess with it. I want to make a new guitar but I wish to hear the diffrence instead of read it. Just thought I'd ask
