  1. I mount mine, then cut them to the neck's profile

Yeah, that`s what I was going to do but I`m making a neck-thru-body guitar and the higher frets will be over the body section of the neck, which is wider than my fret board.(I laminated a wide three piece neck blank to start with)

  2. i know you have to drill holes for all the wires to pass through, but how do u go about getting a drill bit in there? do i use a right angled drill or is there any tips u guys can give me. thank you

If your guitar body is in two pieces you can route a channel down the side(distance between pickup cavaties) before you glue them together. Then when you route for the pickups, the passage is right there. If you route your control cavaty before you glue them together, you can punch that hole through with a drill bit also, provided you lay all the pick-up and knob locations out ahead of time.(which you should do anyway.) :D

  3. :D My fretboard is slotted already.

I plan on going a little wider than finished dimension for sanding.

Can I cut the sides(the taper from nut to 24 th fret) on the table saw or should I use the band saw?.....I don`t know if it will tear the wood at the slots??

Maybe masking tape over the board first???? B)

  4. Why don't you just clear over everything?

I`m sorry,I forgot to state that I was painting the guitar a solid color.I do plan on clearing over everything, but I want the guitar to be blue.I don`t think I can paint it and then route it because I have to sand the epoxy(from the inlay) and that will ruin the paint...I think???

I was thinking of inlaying the guitar, masking the logo, cut around it with an exacto knife, spraying blue, take off the tape and then clear coat.I just wasn`t sure if that would be the way to do it because some of the lines are pretty thin,I didn`t know if the paint settles well that way around tape.

    :D

    Any suggestions???

  5. It was at a tattoo convention in the meadowlands just outside of N.Y.C.

Yeah he`s not in the best shape, but even at his worst he`s better than most.I`m actually going to meet him next show and he`s going to sign my guitar.

  6. Well I carved my maple neck-through today. It has a little bit of mahogany along the back of the body section and holding it in my finger tips in various places, tapping it for sound,it sounds rock solid, kind of like a Louisville slugger.I do the same with the mahogany neck-through,and it sings like a chime.Almost a distinct note. Both will have mahogany wings and painted a solid color.

I know the Maple neck one should be brighter, but I believe the mahogany wings will change the sound a little, but because of the small body,by the sounds of the story I just told...

...Do you think it will be too trebly or dead sounding?

Which would you use and why?.....just curious.

I just want to here other peoples ideas/opinions.

    Thanks in advance :D

  7. buying the fretboards preslotted is good if all you want is ebony, rosewood,or pau ferro...etc.

but the man likes purpleheart.and he is also learning by doing,no matter the volume.just like about 80% of the forum.and if you come down so harshly on people for mistakes in thir information, then others will be hesitant to post thier ideas and questions for fear of being struck down.which is not exactly a learning environment.

    Amen!

This is Project guitar, not Quantity Volume Next Industry Giant .com

It might be fun fretting your one and only guitar. :D

Do it how you want, and have fun!
