  1. hey goat thats a really nice job! Would have made a great tutorial too! Are you thinking of doing another? And if so ask Brian if it can be included as a tut!

    :D

    Thanks eddie.

As far as tone,I`ve never heard better. If I do another,I`ll do the Treble Middle Bass version.

As far as tutorals, the www.18watt.com site is the place for all your information.

They are real helpful.I wouldn`t feel confident telling people to play with high voltages and I`m not much of a teacher/writer.

  2. Check your link-ey, Goat, I aint' a seein' it.

Hey, where did you have Johnny sign that guitar, it looks like either he's in your living room or your in his!

Johnny lives in PA doesn't he? Hmmmm...

BTW, been wonderin' where you went off to. :D

Are you a member of the 18watter club on Yahoo?

My old amp tech built one of those for someone who consigned him to do it, that guy got all his parts from the parts list off of the 18watter club site. Nice amp.

I always wanted to stick it up against my '65 Magnatone M-10 (35W cathode biased) which I modded to 3-10 from the original 1-8" factory setup. Those are killer amps, they just stuck them in less-than-par boxes and too-small speakers.

What power tubes are you running in that, I remember them using something a little off the beaten path. 7189A's?

Didn't they break that place up or something?

Good to see you back, now where's those amp pics?

    Yeah Drak,its www.18watt.com now.That`s the amp I built.They didn`t break up,they got their own site.

    It has a EZ81/6AC4 rectifier , 2 EL84/6BQ5 power tubes and 3 ECC 83/12AX7`s

    It`s a KILLER tone.

Tell me if this link works.

That was me and Johnny at the Stone Pony.

    AMPLIFIER

  3. Been building a tube amp as fervorously as I did my guitar, that`s why I havn`t been posting, but I finished this head.

Now I`ll be building cabinets.I have two 12" speakers. An Alnico blue and a greenback.I`m going to build a mini-cabinet for each. The top one will be a slant so they will look like mini-stacks.

    This amp sounds unbelievable.It`s from a Marshall 18 Watt schemetic.Class A watts.It drives a 4x12 cabinet LOUD!

    A normal and a Tremolo channel.All Tube.

  4. I am officially entering.

I have a design and my fiddleback maple for the top.I have this beautiful dark wood a friend gave me,but I don`t know what it is.It weighs A TON!!!!!!I know we have a year,I will search for the time.I have a baby on the way and I am in the middle of building an amplifier but I will try my best.

    OK! B)

    It's Jan. 3rd.

    I've got the Maple.

    I've got the Mahogony.

I just finalized and finished the plans an hour ago. Done.

This will a very different type of guitar than I've built in the past.

Which is what I wanted to do in the first place, use the competition to push myself past my normal 'Oh, guess I'll just do another Tele' limits.

    ...and you?

    Everybody armed yet?

You`re going to finally do that archtop, aren`t you? :D

  5. i think you can use carbon steel too. i would never use carbon fiber...... just the idea of breathing that in is quite frighening

You don`t want just carbon steel rod.It weighs a ton and bends very easily.Carbon steel rod is just plain steel rod in most cases. It will bend which is why long long ago...they used square stock.Adjustable truss rods are carbon steel, but the threaded tension makes them stronger.

It is carbon fiber you would want,it is already cut to length so you don`t have to worry about splinters. It is very rigid .

  6. Yeah the white one is an original I got after I started mine.It sounds just like Johnnys`.I`ll take a shot of them side by side and put it in the album.

I`m getting this computer interface software for Christmas so I can make an MP3 track for you to hear the guitar. If I can figure it out,I`ll post the different sounds it gets.

My friend wanted me to go see this guy Jay Montrose who was supposedly good friends with, and used to play with Danny Gatton.Have you heard of him?

He just played at The Mexical Blues Cafe in Teaneck,N.J.

  7. SHEIIITE!

I am a HUGE Johnny Winter fan, I've seen Johnny several times over the years, and am well familiar with his Lazar guitars.

    Big Kudo's on the guitar!

A question...I have always wondered what made that Lazar sound sooo different than any other guitar. It has a completely different tone than pretty much any other guitar out there. Trebly to say the least, but with guts...

He must use 9's or lighter, I can hear him bending and I know that sound is 9's or even 8's?

Did you do any research on Johnny's axe that you can tell me how he get's the signature tone out of his Lazar?

Is it the pkps, lack of wood, what is it that makes that guitar sound the way it does?

    Gorgeous Guitar my man. :D

    Thanks Drak,

I consider your work some of the best I`ve seen,so that means alot to me.

    Johnny`s The MAN!

If you look at my other photo albums there, you can see he signed my real Lazer when I met him.I`ve seen him more than any other player I`ve seen.At least seven times.

I gotta tell you it must be the shape and size with the combination of Mahogany(which his is also.)Like I said the range of tones are unreal.

I know for a fact that Johnny uses 10`s,but he drops his tuning a whole step on each string starting with 'D',but this one sounds similar and I have it regular tuning.

  8. Question on the body inlay. Is the inlay done before or after the paint? I ask because I have a project idea that includes some inlay on the body and was wondering about the process.  Oh yeah........damn fine guitar Goat!!

                                              Keith

    Thanks Keith.

I would recommend inlaying into a natural or a stained surface only.

I must say,I will never inlay a guitar again on a painted surface.I did it in the wood first, because to route over a painted surface would, well, ruin the paint with the epoxies, sanding and such.,but the edge from paint to inlay was a hard edge.Maybe because it was Metallic?Fortunately I used the black two part epoxy, which gives it a border.

After taping over the logo,I had to remove the tape to shoot the clear. It was very tedious.

If its in a headstock,I recall Bob Benedetto routing his into a plastic black laminate, then clearing.
