  1. I'm looking for a custom black leather guitar strap similar to the style Nikki Sixx uses. Does anyone here make guitar straps? Just thought I'd ask. Thanks, Steve
  2. Long story here...I've been working on a flat top Les Paul for about a year now thanks to a friend of mine's CNC shop. The body is 2-piece mahogany and has been machined and even already painted (but you could easily sand off the paint and start your design). The neck is machined and half-rounded. The neck is not painted or even primed yet. The headstock hasn't been drilled or cut for headstock inlay. Consider it a blank. I also have a rosewood fretboard with REAL MOP split-block inlays that I've started to cut down to the proper width. The length is perfect...no need to modify that at all. I even have other accessories like: chrome keystone tuner, 4 pots, clear speed knobs, chrome Les Paul-style humbuckers (generic), chrome toggle switch and pearloid Gibson headstock logo and and split diamond ready for inlay. Two things have happened to make me sell it. 1. I don't have access to the machine shop anymore and don't have the skills to do the remainder of the work by hand. 2. My family's car is broken down and I need a lot of money to fix it. So, if anyone is interested in an 85% finished Les Paul project with all the accessories I listed above, send me an email and I can send pictures and we can discuss it further. Thanks, Steve steve.scovill@gmail.com
  3. I'm hoping to find an Ibanez neck (Non-AANJ) that has either pyramid or a vine inlay. If anyone has one that they'd part with, please send me an email! Thanks, Steve
  4. Yeah, the only problem is that I'm a new "builder" and don't have the skills, knowledge or tools to build a bowl back myself. That's why I was hoping for a kit. Thanks to all for the replies...
  5. I know some people don't like Ovation guitars, and some people just freakin' hate them, but I've always thought it would be fun to build one, or at least something similar. I've never built an acoustic guitar and don't even know what is available as a "kit" out there. I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me and point me in the right direction. Any help is appreciated. Scovizzle
  6. Yeah, ideally that would be the way to go and I'd love to do that, but I'm a combination of two bad things when it comes to self guitar building/modifying... 1. Impatient 2. Unskilled
  7. Yeah, I can get the inlay material (pearloid), I just haven't yet until I determined if I could find someone to do it for me at a reasonable price. The fretboard is maple and currently has black "standard" dots...nothing fancy or troublesome to modify. What do you think? Steve
  8. A picture? Are you not familiar with the Ibanez Jem disappearing pyramid inlay? As far as my expectation of the finished product, I expect it to be damn near perfect. Otherwise, I'd try it myself. Like I said, this is my only neck...it's not a project neck and I honestly can't afford to have anything go "wrong" with it that would affect the playing.
  9. So you want the inlays to practice with and then when you've perfected it, I would send you the neck? Is that correct? What would you charge me to do it and would that include refretting? Thanks, Steve
  10. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with letting someone "try" it if they don't know for certain how to do it. It's my only neck...not a spare or project neck and if it gets messed up, I'm in a bad spot. Know what I mean?
  11. Did you see all the painting tutorials on the main page? I'm sure there's plenty of info there to get you started.
  12. Good point. I've got some Gibson fret wire that I can provide as well.
  13. Okay...this will probably seem like a simple thing to you inlay Gods, but to me, it's not. I need help doing a pyramid inlay on the neck of my guitar. If I provide you with the pre cut, pearloid materials, would any of you be willing to do the actual inlaying for me? I'm by no means a rich man, but I would be willing to pay for the work if I can afford it. Drop me a line if you're open to chatting about it. Thanks, Steve
  14. I think this has been asked on here...maybe even by me, but I can't find the thread so forgive me if this is a double post. I'm looking for a "template" of the classic hot-rod style flames. Anyone know where I could find something like this?
  15. I had the body painted with HOK Platinum Pearl but didn't have the neck ready at the time. The painter was supposed to do the neck for me too, but has now backed out of it. If I don't use the same product & color, the neck won't match the body. Thanks for the advice about the Harley shop, LGM. I'll give 'em a call. If I can't find anyone locally, would anyone here be willing to help?
  16. So what are my options then? I don't know anyone with a pro setup that I could get to do it for me and it won't look right if it's not painted. Yeah, I don't want to die, so what's a guy supposed to do?
  17. Actually...no. I don't have any sort of adequate set up, but I don't have much of a choice. I only need this neck painted so it's not worth putting the money into a "proper" set up. Know what I mean?
  18. Cool thanks! Do you think 4oz will be enough if I'm using a syphon sprayer? Also, what is the difference between the slow, med & fast reducers? Thanks, Steve
  19. Hey Guys, This may sound odd, but I need just a little bit of HOK paint...just enough to paint the neck of the guitar I'm building. Since this paint isn't cheap, I'd rather not buy a quart, use half of it and then have the rest sit around for who knows how long. I thought I'd take a chance and see if any of the paint gurus might have what I need in a smaller amount. Specifically, I'm looking for Platinum Pearl (PBC-42) and some reducer. Maybe a pint of each since I'm only doing the neck and headstock. So, if anyone has some and would be willing to sell it to me, please let me know. Thanks, Steve
  20. I've got a set of pearloid Gibson headstock inlays which consists of the Gibson script logo as well as the split diamond that goes below it. I've changed my design and don't need these now. So, if anyone wants them, let me know. I paid $50 for them but will sell them for $35 including shipping. First come, first served. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ssc...stockInlays.jpg Steve
  21. Dude...check the tutorials on the main page www.projectguitar.com. You'll find a complete tutorial there.
  22. Hi, A while back, someone posted a couple links to different guitar kit companies (other than Warmouth). One offered Les Paul kits, complete with flamed or maple tops at really good prices. I thought I had saved the link, but can't find it now. So, if you have this link that I'm looking for, please post it or send me an email. Thank you, Steve
  23. Just curious...where do you find the Testors metal flake paint? Thanks, Steve
  24. Hey Guys, I got a penumatic paint sprayer from my kids for Christmas and this, of course, raised some questions since I've never used one. This is a bottom-feed gun, not the more expensive gravity feed guns. I'd love to hear any tips anyone could post about using one of these guns including: - Type of paint to use for gloss black finish - What to use to thin the paint/ratios - Any and all tips Thanks guys...I hope everyone here is having a GREAT holiday!!! Steve
