  1. Honestly, I can't say that I've seen the PRS faux binding. I got the idea from this string: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...&hl=jem+tribute
  2. I was going to try doing a faux binding on my LP project and wondered if there is a specific router bit that you should use to get the proper effect. Any help is appreciated.
  3. You can search eBay for inlay material. One guy that has a good selection of the pearloid (fake MOP) is aiguitars, or click the link below. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQampq3bsspagena...osortpropertyZ1 Not sure how much that helps...
  4. I've got a Les Paul template that I bought online that I'm now finished with and have no further use for. I bought it from http://www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com/Les...l-templates.gif Like I said...I don't need it anymore and it's just taking up space at my house, so if anyone's interested in it for $25 (including shipping) drop me a message. Thanks
  5. No, I'm not going to put the wire in it. There are no inlays. It is within 4 months old and from stewmac.com. $15 (including shipping). I can't go lower than that.
  6. HA! Fair enough. Email me directly and we'll talk about how and exchange addresses. steve.scovill@gmail.com
  7. How about $40 including shipping?
  8. Make me an offer... Like I said, I'm not using it, so it might as well go to someone who will.

  10. I've also got some bookmatched 1/4" thick flamed maple that I'm not using. I've been told it's 4A quality, but personally...I wouldn't know. Open to cheap sale or trade. Email me for pics.
  11. Sorry...yes, it has the slots for the fret wire, but no fret wire is installed yet. As far as the radius, the playing surface radius gradually flattens from 10" at the nut to 16" at the 24th fret. $15 (includes shipping) and it's yours. I even take PayPal.
  12. I've got a Fender standard 25.5 rosewood, pre-slotted and radiused fret board that I don't need. If you want it, make me an offer. If you're offering trades, about the only thing I need are chrome tuning machines, but what the hell...offer away!
  13. Excellent info. Thank you! Yes, I'm doing a solid gloss black on the back and sides and a black leather front.
  14. I'm hoping with mahogany that I'll be okay with using the grain filler, smoothing that and then simply applying a primer and then the paint. Thanks for the chat...
  15. So, is the grain filler alone all that I need? I don't need to use sanding sealer before applying the filler?
  16. I need some guidance/advice on something and I’m hoping someone will take pity on me and help me out. As I've said, I’m building my first guitar (a Les Paul). I’m doing a cloth front (black leather) and painting the sides and back gloss black. I know that I need to use grain filler on the mahogany body and have read some things that say to apply a sanding sealer before applying the grain filler. Is that true? Apparently I'm going to have to order the filler online since no one in my area seems to have a clue what I'm asking for. Like I said...I'm painting the back and sides a gloss black and want a smooth finish so I want to do this right the first time. So, I guess my questions are: 1. Sanding sealer before grain filler? 2. Water or oil based grain filler? 3. Color/tint of filler (I'm assuming black)? Thanks guys!
  17. These are probably some of the most asked questions on PG. I think the best answers are...a lot of research. I know it sound trite, but it's true. I'm building my first guitar right now and I too am doing an LP. This site: http://members.fortunecity.com/jtfish/lpc/cvr/cover.htm (off the tutorials sections) has some good info, but basically there's no "easy" way to carve a top. I'd love to have a carved top, but for me, and for this being my first build and for a lack of tools, I've resigned myself to doing the coolest damn flat-top Les Paul that I can possibly do. That doesn't mean that you have to go that way, but that's what I determined to be the best for me at this point. There's a lot of info on PG as well as on the web. Do a search in the Forum here for Les Paul and see what you come up with. Share pics as you get 'em...
  18. Thanks for posting that LGM. As a newbie myself, it's nice to hear that. There's been a few times that I've felt that my posts weren't always welcome by some of the more established builders because they were too "elementary" in nature. I've sometimes gotten the short "check the tutorials" reply, which I've noticed other newbies getting as well. Sometimes the tutorials don't address a specific question and we need a bit more guidance from the guys like yourself. It's nice to know that this is still a place that newbies are welcome, encouraged and helped along the way. Thanks to everyone on PG who has helped me over the past year, and there've been a lot of you.
  19. Do a search for Behlen grain filler. I found it on their site so I'm sure you can purchase it online and have it shipped to you. I'm trying to find it locally so I can work on my body this weekend.
  20. Cool. Thanks...is the product called grain filler?
  21. Yeah, I got blank stare from the dude at Home Depot when I asked for it. I'm not sure where else to go to find it. Any suggestion of where to look or do you know of a brand name or anything that might help? Thanks for the reply...
  22. This may be a basic or even stupid question, but I need to make sure about something. I'm building a Les Paul with a mahogany body. I'm going to do a fabric front and paint the back and sides. I've read a lot on here about using a grain filler on wood before priming, etc... My question is, are you guys refering to just plain 'ol wood filler (such as Elmer's) or is there something specifically called grain filler that I should be using? Also, do you just fill any obviously "holes" or do you cover the entire thing just to be safe. All tips are appreciated. I'm hoping to do this this weekend, so I'm hoping for some quick info. Thanks, Steve
  23. Just curious...is there a certain brand/type of spray paint that is better than any others as far as how well it covers, does not run, or orange peel, etc...? I know most of it has to do with how it's applied, temperature and other factors, but I'm curious to hear if there are any recommendations out there. I need to grain fill a mahogany body, prime it, and spray it with a gloss black. Thanks, Steve
  24. Nice swirl job. I'm not crazy about the baby blue, but pulling off a good swirl isn't easy to do, so I respect the fact that you did it yourself. I'm sure you'll get some great answers to your questions.
  25. Check this place out: http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=847-501 They have a good selection of pre-mixed dyes, retardants, etc...
