  1. I´m glad you like it guys; I´m very proud of this guitar. Bill-Murray:it has around 9 coats of clear polyester. White with p90´s? sounds awesome!. I gladly will give you any advice you want, to me it would be easier if you ask something. Like the bevels, I did it without any machine, I use a square, a spokeshave and a scraper. I draw on the wood the inside border and the started to take out the wood with the spokeshave very carefully. Then with the square I checked the beveled surface because I needed a flat surface. With a wood block I sanded it till it was fine and then proceeded to paint it. And that´s it, it was fairly easy, just go slow and always check your surface. Oh, I just saw that you asked about the bevels on the horns Well I use a chisel and verified them with the scarper. Well, there you go, I hope this can help you. If you need anything else I gladly help you. Best regards. My native tongue isn´t english and that´s why I have a few posts only, so I hope I explained ok, if I didn´t well just ask again
  2. GuitarMaestro: Hi Marcel, I didn´t think of that to be honest with you, it doesn´t bother me but I guess if it ever will I can relocate the strap button. BTW I thought that the neck joint was the original design flaw: when they put the pickup cavity the joint becomes really thin and weak. And thanks for the comments, I don´t really know how to apply to guitar of the month really, I thought that the webmaster picked the GOTM. Drak: you caught me! I always watch the MIMF looking for help as well as this site, they both are awesome and they´re great help for a newbie. Maybe the MIMf is a little harsh at the beginning but there is a lot of cool people. Eddiewarlock: I´m peruvian and here there isn´t any place to get good hardware, so be patient and try to do your best with the things you have, good luck. Maiden69: que bueno ver latinos por acá, creo que no hay muchos no? And thanks Metal matt hope to see any guitar from you soon, Alberto
  3. AlexVDL: Thanks for your words, actually I have fooled some people with that fake neck joint jajaja I also think that poly rules, but for a change I´m painting a Tele like guitar with nitro, I hope it comes OK. And glad you also like the LP, I also love that guitar. Godin SD: I use the mahogany grain filler Stewmac sells, and a mix between cherry red and mahogany(very little) for the color. First I sealed de the wood and filled the grain and then i put the color, Here´s where my friend that has a lot of experience come to rescue, he mixed the colors and I´m pretty sure I could have not doing it on my own. He´s truly a master and I own him a lot.(sorry my english ) Maiden69(francisco): de dónde eres? you seems like latino o spanish. Thanks everybody, now I´ll go to play more guitar
  4. Godin SD: here´s a pic of the "faux" neck joint, it looks like a regular joint: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01360.jpg It feels real good, I think it´s because it really is very thin "joint". Alarung: I just put the bridge where it supposed to be, I just calculated the distance between the 12th fret and do a little compensation on the bass side. I think that´s where the SG bridge usually is. Setch: I´m really glad you like the headstock, it looks like it´s only you and me And thanks you all for the compliments, it´s my second guitar and I´m really proud that you all like it.
  5. Thanks everybody for the nice comments, I´m really glad all of you like it. Godin SD: I´ll try to post a pic tomorrow, I made a "faux" neck joint. it looks like a classic joint but it really is a neckthrough. It just felt better that way. About the headstock, mmm I like it, I didn´t want to put a clasic black headstock. It´s a SG clone but I wanted to put a spin somewhere, something a little bit different. Besides I´m gonna a plaque with my initials like a Zemaitis headstock, so do not fear because the headstock will be covered more I guess Hey Maiden do you mean the strap button in the "joint"? I tought that´s where the strap button usually is, maybe I´m wrong, and muchas gracias!
  6. Finally after a long time I finished my second guitar; it´s a neckthrough SG and it took me about 2 months to make it and like 5 months to get it painted, but it came out great and I really like it. The specs are: mahogany body and neck, rosewood headstock and fretboard w/medium-tall frets, 24 3/4" scale, chrome hardware and Gotoh tuners. The finish is polyester and the color is cherry red. the pickups are Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz and the wiring came from StewMac. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01331.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01332.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01333.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01336.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01338.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/DSC01354.jpg I always love the SG´s and I read somewhere that the Gibson intention was to make the SG neckthrough; I really don´t know if this is true but it seemed like a good idea and I just went for it. It´s a mix between a 61' and the P. Townshend model. It´s a very light guitar in comparison with my other ones and it sound really cool, I really love it. If you wanna see more pics check this link: http://photobucket.com/albums/v438/cuervo77/ I´ll love to hear your replies, cheers
  7. Hello, a while ago I asked the same question, I hope this thread could help you like it helped me, http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...wtopic=9993&hl= best regards, Alberto
  8. Thanks a lot Lovekraft, now I´ll get and give it a try, cheers
  9. Hello, a friend of mine asked me if I can wire his guitar with this configuration: 3 humbuckers + 3 volume + 1 master tone He´s planning on using the volume to select the humbucker but he doesn´t wanna use a selector switch. What I understand is that basically the 3 of them are going to be on and when he wanna hear one he would turn down the volume of the other ones. To me it sounds crazy, I told him to use a selector to select the three at once and individually. But can it be done? Please help, I would like to know if this idea will work. Alberto
  10. Ok, thanks a lot guys now I get it. Been spanish my native tongue sometimes I´m a litle bit confused with some instructions, but this forum always have a helping hand, thanks!
  11. Do you never solder a wire to the bridge? my other guitar has a wire from the Lp bridge to ground. And I ´ve seen other wiring diagrams where you need to ground the bridge, or Am I doing something wrong? I don´t have a clue...
  12. Hi, I´m having a hard time trying to solder a ground bridge wire to a chrome bridge. I sanded it a little bit to solder in that spot but to no avail, the solder doesn´t stay, it comes off easily. Does anybody have a tip on how to solder this kind of material? maybe I´m doing something wrong, please help.
  13. Thanks both of you guys, I´ll try to shim it like you said in your post Frank, and if that won´t work I´ll leave it that way. It just bothers me a little bit, the neck has a great fit, Thanks again Alberto
  14. Hello all, I´m building my first bolt-on, a Tele thinline type (but without been hollow ). It´s gonna have a mahogany body and a rosewood/maple neck. So I was fitting and aligning the neck, and everything seems fine except that when I made the holes and put the screws a little gap appeared. Is about 1mm (2/64" aprox) and then it decreased. It´s about 1/2" long. http://espanol.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/albe...3&.dnm=94d6.jpg Also around the last fret area, where the neck meets the body, it has a 1/2 mm (1/64") gap. http://espanol.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/albe...3&.dnm=6beb.jpg So my question is: do I start to worry or maybe the painting will take care of the gap. It was a tight fit but seems when I drill the holes the neck move up a little bit. I checked with the bridge and everything´s allright, the measures between strings is perfect. Any advice? thanks Alberto
  15. Many kinds of guitars have the jack in the front, like the SG´s and some hollowbodies like the ES335. I think you´ll need a 5/32" or 4mm depth in that area so you can screw the jack directly to the body. Also I assume you´re not using a pickguard, right?
  16. Sorry !!METAL MATT!!, I guess I got a little carried away.... I don´t have any in progress pics of my SG, but it took me a lot less too build it than this one, the SG took me about two months and you need to carefully draw your plans full size. I use the plans from guitarbuild.com but I modified it a little bit, mostly the body shape. I reduced the body width because it looked a little wide. I gladly give you any info Camsna, my email is albertopatino21@yahoo.com, ask anything. I have measures and some pics and I will be happy to share them.
  17. Thanks everybody, Guitarmaestro I didn´t paint it by myself, a friend of mine that does in my opinion the best guitars in my country helped me, he showed me how he paints his guitars. The neck has the same finish than the body, is nitro. I´m planning in putting a little plaque on the headstock with a logo or my name, but that will have to wait a little bit. I searched for in progress pics but at that time I didn´t have a camera so I just have one pic: Hope this would give you an idea MetalMike. I´m really glad that all of you like it, it worths the effort of spending a lot of time trying to get everything right, I´m really proud of this one.
  18. I have a set of chrome harware, maybe I can take them out from the SG and put it here. I thought that the headstock would be darker but live and learn. Either way it doesn´t bother me. The paint is nitrocellulose, several coats to cover imperfections. looks cool doesn´t it?
  19. Thanks a lot MetalMatt, it´s my first one and it took my way too long time, The funny thing is that my second (a neckthrough SG) took me 2 months and the third one (a Tele style) just a week! (without the painting of course). I´m really proud of this one, I´m hoping next week post some pics of the SG.

  21. Hello all, finally I´ve finished my first guitar, is a LP copy and and it took me way long time to complete it, mostly because I could only work in it on christmas vacation (it took me almost two years). The interesting thing is that is a hollow guitar due a back problem I have. I made it like a sandwich, it has three pieces of mahogany. the fretboard is rosewood and mother of pearl. The hardware is nickel and the humbuckers are Dimarzio PAF Classics. Hope you like it and hope to hear your opinions (have mercy please!!!! )
  22. Thanks guys, I think I will go with the 500k pots, I don´t quite undestand the procedureyou talk about Lovekraft, but thanks a lot for the advice.
  23. Hello, I would like to convert two 500k pots to 250k so I can use them as tone controls, is there any way to do this?. My problem id that here in my country I can only get extremely low quality pots, they scratch even when new, and a friend gave me a couple of pots and I would like to use. I read that the difference is notorius between the 500k and the 250k for a tone control. thanks a lot.
