  1. Well, in all honesty, when I first started playing, I did use the tone knobs. But only because they were there, and I thought I had to. I leave them cranked. Why would I want to muddy up the sound? I keep the rest set up so that I can get all the sounds needed by switching p/u or channel on the amp... And I have a guitar with no knobs on it whatsoever. One humbucker, and an output jack. Rock on!!!!!!
  2. I have never used the tone knob on any guitar I have ever owned. The volume I only use as a "kill switch", or the occasional volume swell. I like my stuff to be basic.
  3. It would have been easier if it had been done prior to cutting it out. In theory it doesn't matter, though. I would say, look at the body, and make a mark at the center of the neck pocket (I'm guessing no routing of any kind has been done yet...), and lay a ruler across the body. Adjust the position of the ruler until it seems to be laying down what looks like the "natural center line" of the body. If you already have the neck, but the body hasn't been routed, you can lay the neck in the neck pocket position (where it would go when finished), adjust the neck until it looks visually pleasing, and then with the ruler lined up at the center of the neck, continue that center line onto the body. And that should do it.... More or less.
  4. Ah, I see from another post that you're from Sweden! Then let me say this: Hur är läget? Party on, Garth!!!!!!!
  5. I printed it out on 36" wide paper, and it fit with some room to spare. "A3" leads me to believe you're in Europe... I guess they don't have Kinko's. Either way, I don't think A3 is gonna cut it. The file is probably close to 30"x40", with all the junk on the blueprint included.... Good luck!
  6. Head over here: http://www.jemsite.com/origin/index.htm Towards the bottom of the page you will see this: View Original JEM Body Blueprint (large - high res) And that is a 1:1 blueprint of the JEM body, which is identical to the RG, with the exception of monkey grip and lion's claw. Question is, how are you going to print it out? Kinko's could possibly do it, but I don't know what they charge for a large format print... But either or, enjoy!
  7. Have you ever seen one of those carts at the mall, that will do custom stickers for you? That would probably be the "vinyl variation" you are referring to. Of course, the vinyl is pretty darn thick, so it needs to get buried in the clear...

  9. I have tried it, and it sucks! Don't get me wrong.... It looks really nice, but it feels like crap. The idea is that you are just supposed to stick it directly on your fingerboard, and that works just fine. But it doesn't feel very good when you're trying to do a little bend right over where one of the "inlays" happen to be. It's like having a really thin pick glued to your fingerboard! You feel the edges constantly. Now, if you actually make it into a REAL inlay, then it's a different story. But that's not how they're selling it....
  10. Admittedly, it is a very simple procedure to install the Buzz Feiten tuning system. As long as you have all the info needed (how to tune and intonate), I'm fairly certain that most of us here could do it. But good ol' Buzz was smart enough to take out a PATENT on his findings, and that's were the problem comes in. Yep, it's pretty hard to believe that you can't just move your nut (stop thinking nasty!) and adjust the tuning/intonation without having to pay someone a few bucks in royalties! Why didn't I think of that?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  11. How it's done: The nut is moved from it's standard position, and the intonation is adjusted differently, and you only tune "E-open to B-fretted at 5th fret" and so on. I'm sure Buzz doesn't have a problem with a person adjusting their own guitars to the system, but I have a feeling he wouldn't be very appreciative if someone were to pass the info along, or starting to set other peoples guitars up. You have to be a licensed installer/retrofitter for "The Buzz Feiten Tuning System", and I believe you have to pay a small royalty for each installation done. Be careful, or you might have a lawsuit on your hands!
  12. I'm from the Porn Capitol of the world....... Most Porn produced per capita. I'm so proud, it brings a tear to my eye....
  13. Isn't the "Iron Maiden" Strat a standard Strat body, with a Floyd Rose, H/S/S p/u config, black finish and a mirror pickguard?
  14. Munkey, are you still talking about guitars, or something else........?
  15. OK, I have some questions........ How about staining bodies? Do I just go to Home Depot and grab a can of Behr's gel stains, and slap some on? And do I use the "Wood Conditioner" prior to that? And how about handrubbing the clear coat? I'm sure it would take a few applications, but wouldn't it be superior to a sprayed finish? You can build up several (a dozen or so...) coats, but they will be super thin. I mean, if you want your guitar encased in poly (poly = plastic) I guess you could. Seems to me you would want as little of that as possible. Enlighten me!!! p.s. I'm just waiting for the word: my first project could be on the horizon! Scary thought, considering the guy is a pro...
  16. Will you only be measuring trems?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  17. OK, I've seen the "green Strat with monkey grip" mentioned both here and on JEMsite. Am I blind? Where is there a green Strat in that pic??? I can see the Tom Anderson axe with the grip (and while it does have some green details on the body, it doesn't qualify as GREEN), and I can see a RED Strat. Heck, even Steve's old "stickered" Strat is in there. But nothing green............. Someone please show me the way!
  18. Well, I have never been a fan of that whole "lightning bolt" theme on a guitar... Even as fretboard inlays I find it: FUGLY!!!
  19. Hello, y'all! I'm considering starting up my own little "shop of horrors" (or guitars.....), but before getting in over my head I wanted to hear what you guys are looking for in a custom guitar. Right now I'm only interested in the "basics" (no fancy inlay work or swirl paint jobs!), so that I can establish a baseline. What are the basic features you would ask for in a custom guitar, and what would you expect to pay for it? Now, don't say $50! Be reasonable........... Thank you! What style of guitar do you look for: Vintage or Modern Body wood: Ash, Alder, Maple, Mahogany Front or rear routed? Fretboard wood: Rosewood, Maple, Ebony What type of bridge: Hardtail, Vintage trem, Floyd Rose Tuner: Standard or Locking What brand of pickups: Duncan, Dimarzio, Other Buzz Feiten Tuning System? Solid or Transparent colors? With your above choices in mind, what do you expect to pay for a guitar like that? Once again, thank you for looking at this............................
  20. The basics of Feiten... The nut, according to Buzz, is in the wrong position! So his system involves adjusting the nut a few millimeters. But this is not enough. The intonation is also altered. It's set slightly "off", by specific amounts per string. Also, when all this is done, you have to tune your guitar in a certain way. The ONLY way you should tune after installation is E (open 1st) to E (5th fret, 2nd string), E (open 1st) to E (9th fret, 3rd string), and so on. Also, you cannot do the intonation yourself, unless you have a digital tuner with the Feiten settings programmed in. I think Korg makes one.... Please don't track me down and kill me if I'm wrong on any of this. I'm simply paraphrasing as much as I can remember. And at the this age, it ain't much!
