  1. it would yes, but you wouldnt need it on all of them, only on too. i would suggest having the two tone pots as push/pulls with two of the pickups going to them. the reason you dont need all three of them like this is that, if the bridge and middle are selected together, it makes no difference which of the pickups is phased, it will sound the same. so you will be able to manage with just two pickups having the effect. but remember if both pickups that are combined have their phase switches on at the same time there will be no effect, its just like having them both off
  2. well, you'd need a push/pull pot to do that. phase reverse (when used with single coils) only works with two or more pickups. with just one pickup it does nothing. heres a simple wiring diagram of phase reversal - link
  3. do you mean phase reversal? it gives a thinner sound to combined pickups rather than the thicker sound you usually get. its an easy mod to do, and there'll be a lot of diagrams out there
  4. i made a control cavity cover with some of the wood left over from the top - and without a bandsaw its a bit of a pain in the bum! stained it and its come out looking more how i wanted the top to be than the top is, but o well. and when i screwed it down i stupidly screwed it too tight so one of the corners cracked. it may be fixable, so my question is - keep this one if i can fix it, make a new one, or do one out of black plastic? heres a pic ps - the guitar hasnt been flatted and polished yet, hence it looking like crap
  5. haha. maybe a guitar wiring job saver. hehe. good luck with it
  6. yes. just solder the braided shielding wire to the back of the pot in place of the green and grey wire in the diagram, and that should be it
  7. if your pickup has only one wire then the shielding must be the earth. is it cloth, or is it metal? does it look like the bottom of these four (go to bottom picture)
  8. what do you mean when you say two of the wires are connected to each other? where are these wires - at the pickup or coming out of the cloth and metal shielded bit? if it is a single conducter pickup, then the inner black wire is the hot output, and the braided shield is earth.
  9. oh my god!! it beats jesus in a cookie any day
  10. yeah i thought the blue would look good as it was very dark and would kinda match the top, but it really didnt. it sucked big hairy sweaty man bums. and as we all know thats no good at all
  11. still havent painted the back yet. getting some paint tomorrow so it'll be done over the weekend. got some of the parts today - pu rings, knobs etc. so i put them on to see what it'll look like. i ended up going with abalone topped tele knobs - they match the top well. i also put a brass insert into the headstock where the string slot was for the g string. the wood had cracked and i think as soon as you began tuning the string it would have popped through the wood. here's some pics. (and yes, i know the pickups arent straight, they're not screwed down) full length body1 body2 body3
  12. yeah it would have to be thought out a lot more and little tests done and stuff i guess. maybe i should concentrate on getting this one finished and sold first, cos if that doesnt happen then none of the others will! oh, the blue back really didnt go with the front so its just gonna be black
  13. iv been bored tonight so iv designed a single cut and a bass - so now i have a 'range'!! hehe. no money to make them, and not even sure if the one im doing now is even gonna sell or not, but o well. this is the single cut version looks like a cross between the one im doing now and the mattocaster i know, but i like it. if this one sells i think im gonna do this next. although iv never done a bass so maybe that one. hmmmmm. someone earlier on this thread (or another where it is i cant remember) mentioned about using the wave as a thumb rest on a bass, so i went with it here and tried to do something that could be used that way while also not being too intrusive if you use a pick. this might have a flat body or carved the same as the two guitars. who knows. any feedback on those two would be welcome. i should patent them!!!!! hehe. as for the 'desiree', iv sprayed the back a very dark pearlescent blue. i'll just have to wait until the clear coats gone on to see what it looks like with the rest of the guitar. there'll be pics as soon as its presentable.
  14. its black - sand back. red - sand back. blue - wipe off. yellow - sand back and blue next one i do i think i'll stop at the first blue cos it looked really cool - like red abalone
  15. the top is stained and i just gave it a few sealer coats so it doesnt get scratched while i do the rest of it. heres a few pics pic1 pic2
  16. i dont suppose anyone knows where i could get these knobs? i cant find them or anything like it anywhere
  17. its done in layers. i just experimented. i was trying for a darker version of prs' abalone stain and came up with it
  18. sprayed a couple of coats of clear on the neck today and the colour looks a lot greener. although its still pretty damn cool. you can really see the colour on this pic neck
  19. yes go back a few pages and you'll see it
  20. hehe she is. rar! i shaped the back a bit today on the cutaways. i've decided that im going to darken the back wood and then do a black sunburst on it, as there are a couple of big tear outs on the sides that will be noticed. but black will suit the top and the hardware better than a natural finish to the back so it works out well anyway. here's a few pics. back back again (a bit blurry but you can see the shaping better) side (ish) view
  21. haha. i dont think she'd be too happy about that
  22. the bridge is flush, its just shadow. as for the neck pocket thing, i left it that way until i was closer to finishing it because that area would be very delicate and i didnt want it ripping off. so yes, it is going to get smaller, althought the upper fret access is impeded at all by it. but i do agree with what you say about it and it will be changed
  23. i probably will when its finished. by the way, this model is called 'desiree', after my friend mia (desiree's her middle name) cos its curvy and sexy like her. she deserves so much more but this is just my little way of thanking her for being such an amazing person
  24. it feels fine in my hand. i admit that picture does look a bit much, but its fine
  25. hehe once again, way ahead of you. its gonna have chrome pu rings with black screws, to match the black and chrome pickups and bridge. the machineheads will be chrome, with black screws and washers. and thanks for the comments everyone
