  1. no that makes sense, and that was pretty much how i was expecting id have to do it. to be honest, im going to try to get the wood thats on ebay pretty soon, and try and make a start. the only problem i'll have is that i cant really afford to be buying wood for the neck, and id want to route the neck pocket before i start any carving. and its better to cut a hole to fit the neck rather than building a neck to fit a hole. damn. the maple on ebay is 1" thick by the way. im guessing this wouldnt be thick enough fro a real prs carve plus the wave, but it'll do. and its one piece too which is good. EDIT: here's a 4+2 design with the same kind of wave as the body. any thoughts?
  2. it does bend - i bent it for the headstock and someone else on the muse live forum has done a mirror body front back and sides, but they're all flat surfaces. if you mean like the bomber manson, then you probably wouldnt get good results
  3. thanks for that. hmm, so it looks as though both the raised and lower bits of the top are flat on that one. (unless im not seeing it right - and i didnt read it so i might have missed something - doh!) and im going for the carved top prs type thing. seems i'll have my work cut out for me! if it ever happens that is
  4. i've pm-ed you. but for anyone else who wants to know (from the uk anyway) i got it from here - link
  5. but i've never done a carved top.... please....sniff....i want to....
  6. well, thanks for the suggestions and comments guys. and yes, if you did read my original post i did say that i stole the wave/swoosh thing from that guitar. but hey, i bet we've all just looked at pictures and not bothered reading the rest. i know i have. i dont know about the headstock. i think if its a bolt on i'll go with that, but if its a set neck then i'll do a three a side thing or something. i'll keep tweeking and see what happens. NJD - i dont think i would do that tailpiece thing even if it were a non-vib bridge. i dont know why, it just doesnt grab me. and yes, that top would probably be a bugger to do - and probably not the smartest thing to try for your first carve top, but i'll never know if i dont try it i suppose. theres a nice bit of maple on ebay, but my credit card has no money on it so i cant get it. grrr. i'll have o wait a while till i can pay some off.
  7. i got bored so i designed something. i have no money right now so it wont get started on for a while if ever, but i just wanted to see what people thought about it. it will probably get two hbs, as im going to sell it if it gets made, and i figure two hbs are more popular than p90/hb combo. it would have a prs-like carve on the top, apart from the curly thing going down the body, which is like a raised wave, with a clean natural edge on the inside and sloping down to the edge on the outside. i cant really explain it right, but here's where i stole the idea from - link so basically its a cross between that guitar and a prs. any thoughts? comments and critiscisms welcome
  8. i read an interview with terry mcintruff i think it was, and he used them from the 11th fret to the neck/body join. and someone else showed him to do it that way. thats how i did mine too. and i just did it parallel to the truss rod, although i dont suppose it would matter if it went with the taper
  9. its a lot more handy in the guitar than on the floor. i know its a bit of a gimicky thing to do but it is very practical with something like the fuzz factory
  10. i think we all know im not going to win but what the hell - my first gotm entry! sapele body topped with purple mirror acrylic and flame maple binding flame maple bolt-on (with actual bolts) neck with ebony fingerboard and mirror acrylic headstock facing gotoh 510 tuners (sexy as hell!) p90, mighty mite motherbucker (to be replaced with a crunchbox as soon as i can afford it) tuned filter fuzz factory
  11. yup its a purple acrylic garden mirror. thanks for the nice words guys, i'll get some better pics on sometime today *EDIT* if anyone wants to see a couple of better pics iv foolishly put it on guitar of the month. what the hell, iv never entered before so why not eh?
  12. well the pot came, i wired it all up and its done. i think. i havent plugged it in to an amp yet so i dont know how it sounds (i may have wired the p90 wrong but it wont take two minutes to change that) but i know everything works. too dark to take any good pics so heres just a couple. more pics tomorrow! back
  13. did you clear coat it before sapraying the burst or are you spraying the birst straight onto the fabric? if you're spraying straight onto the fabric maybe its absorbing the paint too much. try clear coating a bit then adding more burst then more clear coat. if you did clear coat first then i have no idea whats going on
  14. theres only a fuzz factory in there. if you look on the last page at the link 'control description' (or whatever it says) it tells you on there what everything does. and just in case you dont already know stab and comp are fuzz factory controls
  15. the only thing about the fuzz factory is its so good to mess with while you're playing and it just seems to make sense to have it right there instead of having to bend down to mess with it. but i guess people could say that about a lot of effects. maybe for the next one i'll just stick a theramin in there! hehe
  16. indeed i did ben. i was preparing myself for lots of 'theres too many controls!!!!' type posts. maybe they just didnt bother writing and pressed BACK in disgust. logical frank - its not as difficult as you might think finding everything. once you get used to whats where its just like reaching for the pu selector or volume pot. and i think its safe to say i wont be worrying matt bellamy with my playing skills any time soon!
  17. while i wait for the damn pot to come, i finally finished my flying v! yay! iv had the fuzz factory for that away somewhere to be fixed because something went wrong with it. its been there for 6 months and nothing happened so i went and got it back and lo and behold i fixed it myself after some tinkering. iv been playing this guitar all day and i love it! it sounds much better than it did before. heres some before and after pics. and yes, i know, for most people theres too many controls and gadgets! but its mine and i dont care before after headstock ff control plate controls description
  18. ok, so what about this one with the led. where would the red led wire go to? and would that be the side that would have the resistor?
  19. i finally got the pots from germany yesterday (got them from germany cos it was the only place i could find push/push pots) and lo and behold, the push/push pot was broken. either of the other two and i could have got them from anywhere, but now i have to wait for another one to come from germany. not only that, but they now dont have them in stock, so i have to wait god knows how long. and then today, when i came to assemble the neck again (after respraying) i noticed that two of the ball bearings from the roller nut had disappeared. so now i have to get some ball bearings. 85p for a pack of 10, £5 postage. damn it. i bolted the neck to the body for the first time with the body front exposed. i want its babies. uno with strat for size comparison
  20. flat and buffed the body. heres a couple of pics. purty binding another view of the body showing how the wood changes in the light
  21. but the vexter series pedal has an led which i wont be using on the guitar. so the switch on the pedal is a 3pdt, whereas all i need is a 2pdt. which is why it needs changing.
  22. hmm. must just be the pics because everything is in line. the neck pocket is as tight as can be and the pickups line up perfectly and are straight. like i say, must just be the pics
