The bolts work really well. The inserts need a little bit of beeswax on them when first installed

M5 bolts and recievers in place, always gives me the fear but this time it was drama free. I find them soo much more secure / tight than screws - so its a proper bolt on neck.

yes! I was hoping to capture that retro / future vibe.

250 and 500k  pot not really cutting it  - ordered a blend pot and   will try addition of tbp tone pot - on a plus note it plays nicely and looks cool so i'm happy             

this was a happy accident in terms of the final shape - i originally misaligned the neck so had to redo the pocket and the resulting gap needed removing - i am going to use a volume for each pickup , no tone control, no switch a'la music man mariposa -   question is what pot values?? bridge is a hot single coil and neck is a standard P90 - i'm thinking 250k for bridge and 500k for neck - does that seem right??

- finish is another colour shift paint job, red copper to gold.

neck and fingerboard are roasted sycamore ( a cladding product) not sure of the body woods name - it is tooo soft really for guitar making but you have to use what you've got! the front is sycamore and a scrap piece of ovangkol, pickups are warman firebuckers, hipshot open tuners - i have to say the pickups are really impressive, great clarity and roundness.. pickup blender pot, tone and master volume. i am pleased with the neck / headstock but the main body wood has been a real disappointment, it dents if you look at it funny and is a git to finish becuase it so dry/porous - it does sound good though.

I made  a temporary cover of maple but i have some roasted sycamore offcuts that match the neck with which i am going to make a proper cover from , 

this project is still in progress..... i was an utter knob end and had placed the bridge pickup route in the wrong place.(measure once re route twice) i had to strip the body, fill the pickup cavity and re route about 12mm further back....grrrrr...   i am thinking about modifying the lower cutaway before i re spray... i havent even thought about the electrics since i discovered my error.

Hi all, happy new year - i hope

nearly finished this for my youngest son, he is a big john petrucci fan and wanted me to build him something similar to johns musicman guitar. it was a  real challenge as this is only my 5th or 6th proper build and only the 3rd time ive done a spray finish. the paint is a color shift spray (neptune, i think, it was pretty bloody expensive)

neck wood is roasted sycamore with a flamed roasted sycamore fretboard. body is ash.

2020 really sucked arse in so many ways but i did enjoy any time i spent on this project and my boy is really keen for me to finish this and let him have it!

If you have router bits with a bearing on the shaft that would still be doable without risking the finish too much. Make a template for the cavity and route the bottom carefully deeper. Since the center of the top seems to be radiused, the template should be thick enough to pass the highest spot of the top. For added security you could even make a two layer template with a smaller triangle on the cavity and a larger plate to cover the top.

i considered something like this but frankly Bizman it scares me! its so near to being finished i dont want to risk screwing it up   and i have no idea how the epoxy would route.

hi all. hope this is in the right forum. this is my current build the problem is the control cavity is too shallow for the  switch.- it is 22mm deep,. the bottom of the cavity is expoy, why is it expoy? because i slipped when routing and was  2mm shy of going all the way through. i slightly overfilled the cavity but didnt notice until the top was on so now routing it deeper (somehow) seems very scary or impossible! 

i think my only option is a low profile rotary switch but given my very rudimentary electronics knowledge i have no idea what i need!
