  1. This is fancy compared to the first couple humbuckers! Those I did with just a hand drill. I got the wire (42 AWG) from Stewmac when I bought my first kit. Here's one I found which is tons cheaper than stewmac. https://brocott.co.uk/0-050mm-44-awg-enamelled-copper-magnet-wire-solderable-250g/
  2. Did some winding today. Went pretty well, got it right on the second try. First wind ended up in the trash. Was able to fit maybe 5000 winds on it, so probably pretty low output. DC resistance is 4k. The crazy contraption. Thankfully the drill adjusts down to 600 rpm.
  3. Got some glue-ups done for the carved top LP. Control cavity, back roundover and jack hole done for the jr. Was able to save two pieces large enough for a tele neck from the quilt mahogany. Woo
  4. A layer of britetone to shield the top from cracking/splinters. Seems a bit prone to that. I'll sand it back once done with the cavities etc.
  5. Glue-up semi-successful, had a couple small splinters. Glued them back with CA. Also received the top wood for the carved top. It looks so good, I hope I will do it justice. After some cleaning
  6. Change of plans, slightly. I think I'll do two of these, this one will have the ziricote veneer I've been keeping for some project. And baritone scale neck. Veneer has a couple cracks on it, we'll see how it goes. Forgot to take a pic of the glue-up.
  7. Somebody skipped payment to Mucha? Wonderful build! He's my favorite artist so I'm partial.
  8. Probably not going to make it that thick, just approximate measurements, not too sure at the moment how the final thicknesses will be. Roughly aiming to carved top 49mm at sides, 63mm to center. Chambered.
  9. Templates ready, mahogany blank glued. Just ordered the top. The flame maple I already had.
  10. I've never been able to gel with LP's. I think they look great but have always felt cramped to play. Maybe it's the short scale. But now I've decided to try one myself to get over the love/hate relationship. Sandwitch body, 44mm mahogany back, 10mm flame maple plus 10mm figured mahogany top. Multilam neck, haven't decided the woods yet. Maybe padauk and maple? Handwound humbuckers made by myself. I intend to carve the body so that the flamed maple shows through like in the template.
  11. Sound sample, through Sansamp PSA-1
  12. Got the tuners finally. They sent the wrong set, 4L instead of 2r+2l. Oh well, I'm not waiting through the hassle of returning and maybe getting a replacement in a month or so. Looks wacky, but so is the build.
  13. Not directly related, but some good info on entrepreneurship. Fist you need a product/idea that's better than the competition. Custom strats and teles don't bring the money, unless you're aiming for small builder/local customers.
  14. Thanks! I did the back first to test which colors to use. Long story short, I did the fade with waterbased purple and the pink and blue are alcohol based dyes, which turned out a right pita to get to fade without hard lines. So for the front I just mixed the blue and pink to get a purple. Not as strong as the back but much easier to handle.
  15. TSE makes some free plugins, there's at least a Sansamp emulation (B.O.D) https://www.tseaudio.com/software/
  16. Logo and frets done. Now just need to get the tuners and play some psycheledic mushroom jazz on this.
  17. Tuner holes drilled. Here's the back.
  18. Thanks! It really looks weird. Now at least with color! Tru-oil going on, just had to check with hardware. Oops bridge not quite where it should be. Matching truss cover with uv resin.
  19. Bit of hardware testing, drilling holes. All these wonky lines really baffle they eye. Fret dots test
  20. Clown dots going on. Really liking the back. They ended up looking the same orange color for up to 15th fret, then just blue from there.
  21. Thanks! Always a great feeling when you have a neck carve that feels good. It's starting to feel more like an instrument. The color scheme will be pretty obscene. Pink to purple to blue fade. Like those NASA galaxy renditions always have.
  22. Slowly moving towards a carve. Trying to make this look "funky" if it makes sense.
