  1. Ok I have a few questions about swirling, Ive searched quite a bit on here and on Jemsite, but I still can't find my answers: 1. Once I've dipped it, I let it dry, but do I need to do anything to it to stop the paint from sagging or flowing? Or will the oil paints have dried a little bit once I've taken the body out of the tub? 2. Do I sand the oil paint swirl before clear coating? Or do I only sand/buff the clear coat. 3. Do I have to sand down my guitar completely and then primer it? Or can I just sand down the clearcoat to the black paint underneath and swirl on top of that? I'm planning a swirl that contains black anyway? Will the black underneath show through the swirl I put over the top? 4. How do I stop the paint+water from getting inside trem bushings? Do I remove the bushings? Or can I just tape over+plug the holes+bushings? I'm not too bothered about the paintjob around the posts anyway. Thanks, Joe
  2. another quick question: Do I have to use the ruby or the little gem amplifier/preamps? Can I just use some sort of generic audio amplifier, maybe a pre-built one like these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=...4&criteria= http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=...1&criteria= http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=S...mp;doy=5m2#spec Or this http://www.quasarelectronics.co.uk/3017.htm since its 386 based also, is there a difference between a LM386 and a LM386N-1? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...ier&doy=5m2 Can I use that for the little gem?
  3. Ive not got an EMG in the neck position, I've got the stock pickup, and it doesnt work too well with the EMG, so thats why I want to put a driver there since I have no idea what the power section of the fetzer/ruby is, can someone tell me? or mark it out on the schematic cheers
  4. oh dear...looks like I double posted too.
  5. Hey guys, I'm just diving in again with a quick, unrelated question. Ive got a 7 string guitar with an EMG 707 at the bridge. I was wondering, Do I still need a ruby/gem preamp thing to drive a driver? Or can I just split the signal from the EMG and have 1 going to the output jacks/pots and one to a driver at the neck? /noob question cheers Joe
  6. OK, the fact that this thread is over 100 pages long is hurting my brain and my eyes, so Im going to ask my questions now I understand that the refined and currently accepted method of the DIY sustainer is using the fetzer ruby preamp, and having it drive a DIY driver, which is a magnet with some wire wrapped around it (see I have been reading) but what i dont understand is, what is wrong with the original design on the tutorial section of the project guitar site? I know that the piezo method doesnt work the same way as the "refined" method, but does it still sustain and acchieve a similar effect? second question, for the method on the site, do I have to use a 386? maplins dont seem to sell them anymore, can i use a LM331N, lm358N or lm393N or anything else I can get from maplins? forgive my noobiness guys
