  1. So, if it still matters: I played a hopf saturn 63 today in my local little guitar store in berlin. clean, 2nd owner. whammy bar missing. vibrato. sorry. We discussed about the top, solid vs laminate. You can actually follow the spruce Grain under the sunken in black finish AROUND the bodys sides until it meets the back half of the body in the middle. Not so for the back. That seems to be laminated. no sunken in finish. Shop owner claims he had quite a few going through his hands over the years. He said that the earlier clear finished ones mostly all are massive with high quality Spruce tops, while the sunburst and later ones are laminated. Thats what they did to use the lower quality spruce. Cutting costs as well. The pu switching system is amazing. every position is really usable. 0-i-ii-i+ii = off, bass, treble, both. the T+B+ is very interesting. We dont think its just caps. pickups seem to be wired in series as the output goes up, easily 20-30% very dark jazzy, maybe theres some cap for lpf. If i´m wrong i need someone to tell me about a passive caps and resistor based Bass-boost T-b+ is again in series but bridge pu out of phase. nice honk, more output than on pu on its own. Wanted to look under the hood, but he declined, too mint... electronics alledgedley sealed with a metal casing from the back. Thinking back, there was some interaction between the switches. Dang. Didnt check if the TB settings override or alter the 0-i-ii-i+ii settings.Could go back if smbdys interested. Maybe buy her. Unplugged, warm, loud bassy, fast response. very sweet high up. Got one when i started out. Present. got rid of it, pickups squealed when attempting Nirvana. Schrottaxt. Stupid me. Sold it for 100DM... ouch. if theres still interest for details i could go back snap some more detailed pics.
