  1. i have seen such humbuckers with the covers pre-installed on wd music your best bet would be to customize a standard 6 hole replacment also avalible from wd music
  2. as pointed out the stability of crome finishes is a pian however there is an alternative. the latest steve vai model uses the same material as a chrome scratchplate an is simply gled onto the top (whitey you may want to consider this) and the forarm contor is created by vacum forming. this yeilds pretty good reuslts as well
  3. yeh i know what you mean, i think its becuase there really arnt that many the only ones iv see are prs'
  4. "there is no emoticion for what i am fealing"- the simpsons if only that tutorial gets finished, ut thank you sssssssoooooooooooooooooooo much for posting this beats being ripped off by sims custom
  5. from what ive read cutting carbon fibre with power tools is a bad ideal. appaerently it wears them down very quickly but i have had no person experince with it. jay5 were you cutting with a manual saw or a mechinized saw?
  6. thanks for that mattia, making the tennon that rises from the body level in hieght then routing the top is something i didnt even think of yet it makes so much sence, really glad i joined this forum your opinons and ideas really help
  7. RF interference is a real pain with unshieldied guitars espiacaly in a studio. computer moniters are a huge source of RF, try moving around in the room you practise in as RF levels can varry quite a bit but then again sitting facing the corner of a room isnt very nice.
  8. great finish i think it realy shows off the grain
  9. it was in one of the gallaries one this site, hopefully it will be something like the finish on my guitar when its done
  10. yeh i thought this was wierd, wanted to check it with you guys. unfortunately some people in the guitar industary will take utter rubish cough ed roman cough
  11. look foward to the pic as their site has none ther is a pic with t on a guitar but its hard to see in detial
  12. mattia you resess the tennon into your top? 1) how thick are your tops 2) most people seem to avoid this, what is your reasoning behind it?
  13. it is rather odd. i read about it in a guitar magazine, this guy complained after adding treble bleed caps to his les paul when he backed off on the volume treble increase rather than staying level (the idea of a treble bleed) in response he was told that on two volume guitars you shouldnt instal treble bleed caps as this happens and was not due to using incorrect cap sizes, i was guessing that it could be due to interactive guitar volume wirring. it may also be worth a note that prs single cuts dont have treble bleeds whereas customs do dont know if this is related i was just reading my mag at the mo'
  14. diy guitarist is a very interesting site and ill check out the other one. as for sounding better if you like high gain stuff then yes as obviously oyur driving your amps front end harder. also it can offer empedence advantages with the use of buffers. this will alow you to run long cables and effects pedals with less degrading of you signal. as you guitar previously had active electronics in it i presume there is a battery compartment if not there is a really good one here,i dont know about the double box but you may be able to wire in paralell for 2x the battery life. one last thing make sure you use a pot or switch pot combination (or even a push/push pot (i dont get why people use puch/pull)) as if you simply use a switch you serriously resrick its potential.
  15. they look pretty cool, never heard of the company before how did you find out about them? as you mentioned they werent very popular, (personaly the guitars dont look that good but they inotive designing in them)
  16. nice idea, have aductments at both the nut and bridge may take a while to set up (as soon as the nut is adjusted the bridge will be requiring re-adjustment to get the 12th fret back in tune so you may need to repeat the prosess) but once done it should be great. Earvana offer a similar systeme where the nut is adjustbale you will otic that for each string there is a different point at which the nut ends this allows for thus use of only two srews rather than six individualy adjustable srews. it sounds like what your thinking of is almost another bridge and the nut, if you could make a minuate tom it would probably work. but i mean minuature! just go back to your guitar and look hoe much space there is (im talking fingerboard width). the additionial mass wouldnt be a bad thing in most cases, but may cause extra frition which in turn causes tunning problem the very thing you ar trying to over come in the first place. to sum up it would be great but i dont think its do-able by the likes of us home/small builders
  17. the groundwire to the brige is used for a string ground so i take it you mean this ground---coil 1---coil 2---out tapped ground---coil 1--- ---coil 2---out groundwire to bridge/ the / represents the switch (sorry i dont currently have anywhere to host my pics online) its important to use star grounding (all grounds meet at one point, other wise you will have ground loops that will cause noise i recomended this site to another member Guitar nuts ) i suspect it may have something to do with the way you connected the groundwire to the bridge but yes if you inverted the input and ground lugs (presuming the center lug (shaft) is the output) the pots should work in the correct direction hope this helps
  18. slight change to the design, well not exactly a change. i hadnt decided on the inlay. i had always wanted something like Sims Custom offer but could never afford it. then i saw the thread on fibre optics on this forum. and as of now this idea is now part of my design. i plan to have the system on the front facing dots and mabey the side dots depending on how much space it will require. the idea is to have the dots on the bass side like on some ibanez's (e.g. john petrucci's old model) but with a consistant small size. on a previous thread a guy doing only the side makers but never got finished and another were the link to the tutorial didnt work. im confident that i could do it myself. there are a few things i need to know how flexible is fibre optical cable (enough to bend at almost 90 degrees as i plan the route the channel on the bass side, this however may affect the internal refraction). as for the light source i would install and led in the neck pick-up cavity to iluminate the cable. and for the final part the dots themselves, would i use regular dots with holes in or clear plastic. Sims custom offers mop ablone and magnifier lenses im curios to see hoe thos might work. as i am unfamiliar with inlays could it be possible to cut the mop or ablone be cut so thinly it would be transparent, then use a clear plastic the fill the hole hieght. there are people on this forum who have done this so would this work?
  19. yeh there the same thing, by active pickup circuit i pressume you mean stuff like emgs. basicaly an active pickup is designed around a much smaller coil, this produces a low output but is then amplified by a pre-amp within the pick-up. hope that helps and it goes well with the instalation
  20. just been searching the forum for this kind of thing, the link didnt work so plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz continue it. if you dont have the time right now fine just say man the suspence is killing me good luck
  21. this is a fiar enough debate guys but come on im sure there are other threads for this argument no offence but at the end of the day there both good gui tars
  22. i suppose "tone" was a bit vauge mabey resonance is a better word, and sustain is a more appaerent advantage of this mehtod in response to mattia's comment about it make a neck through if the joint goes to he bridge this method alows for a maple top, this could be done on neck thru but then you could argue why not make a deep set neck tennon?
  23. looking at the two guitars side by side where the upper horn meets the rest of the body (above the gap inbetween the pickups) the prs has a more gentle slope that the gibson, but thats what i can see (body depth is another factor) anyways its not like im going to buy prs and trace it when i draw it up it will be to suit me but i have a feeling that'l be the prs shape. but who cares anyway the courts have decided GergP what did you think of KTS?
  24. Salute Greg, just replied to you questions about my guitar plan
