  1. Looks great! The nut looks a little wide for my tastes, and the knob layout seems a bit close to the edge of the body, but otherwise this looks like an awesome guitar! Any more pics of it, especially the sides and back? I like to see the contrast in the colored top/natural core. Also, if you've been building for 17 years, then you've got a lot of other stuff to show us as well. Can't wait to see more of your work, and welcome to the forum. :D

  2. Slow down and stop building so fast is my suggestion, this way you may make less of these "mistakes" and possibly enjoy it a little more.

Just to be fair, he shouldn't be blamed for mistakes just because he works faster than everybody else. He already stated that he spends a lot of time planning, so these aren't just random unnecessary mistakes. Killemall, you do have skills, don't be so discouraged. Everyone makes mistakes....I'm not halfway done with my guitar yet, and I've already made plenty of mistakes. Just cheer up and have fun like everyone else says.

Just an idea.....perhaps you could take a short break from guitars and work on other projects (I dunno, furniture or something for example). You could do less critical projects that would still build your woodworking skills, that way when you build your next guitar, you will feel more confident. I don't know if that helps any....just trying to help. Believe it or not, you have been a help to people on this forum. Have a nice day! :D

  3. You need to redo the photos in the guitar of the month thread, they really dont do it justice like some of the photos in here do of the headstock etc, give the beaty some natural light! Good luck on your entry, its an excellent piece of work.

+1, I can't see the guitar through all that glare! :D Just kidding, the finish is really great, you've really taken your time on this. I love all the details on the neck, the laminations, the binding, everything looks flawless. I really like this guitar (and not just because it's a PRS shape, or has figured maple) because of the quality. You should be proud!

  4. Carefully, by hand. For the project I'm working on I just carefully laid a piece of fret wire into a slot and then bent it slowly to conform to the shape. It is not as fast as using one of those fancy wire bending tools, but it should work ok. If an experienced person like me could do it, I'm sure you can handle it. :D You've done several necks now, how have you done it before? Are you just wanting to try something new with pre-cut frets?

  5. Basses are great fun to build - far more creativie scope as bassists are a much less conservative lot.

have a look round the TalkBass forum for some informed views on bass designs.

+1 on that. I have a list of dream basses that I'd like to build some time. :D And definitely check out the Luthier's Corner on TalkBass, there is a lot of information over there, and plenty of great looking basses.

  6. I don't believe padauk requires a finish. On the Warmoth woods list, it says they don't use a finish on their padauk necks. It does have open pores, however that affects your decision. I used some padauk for a non-guitar project recently, and put a few coats of tru-oil on it, and it turned a lovely dark red. I'd say that the choice is up to you. :D

  7. Thanks, Kenneth. I believe that the carve depth of the singlecuts is the same as the doublecuts, so 3/4" would work for both of them. I'm not sure I understand what exactly you are asking, are you just looking for a supplier for flamed maple? If so, then there are several suppliers in North America that may be able to ship to Sweden (I think they should be able to....). Bending a thin 1/4" top is done over one small part, like the arm contour, not over the whole body. If you want to do a carved top, then your only real option is to find some thicker wood. If you have any other questions, just let us know and we'll try to help any way we can. Good luck, and welcome to the forum. :D
