  2. Excellent first build. I think everyone goes through the destruction of a few bits of wood before they get it right I know I certainly did. How well does the bass balance as the strap button is well above the 12th fret.
  3. It is. That's why I got John East to do all the clever stuff.
  4. Here is a pick of the new ACG pre-amp.
  5. Hi If anyone is interested in the pre-amp I will be fitting to all of my future basses you will find the details here. www.acguitars.co.uk/pa_index.php
  6. Some pics of the fingerboard. You can also see the bibinga underneath the fingerboard this will tie in with the heel and the control cavity cover.
  7. Thats the fingerboard glued up and shaped and rubbed down with steel wool. The fret markers are in pearwood they are easily seen by the player but all but invisible from 5 feet away.
  8. Some more carving done today. More pics at. ACG gallery
  9. A bit more work done today. The control cavity done trussrod fitted and neck pocket routed out and neck fitted. Some more pics at the link below. ACG Gallery
  10. I would keep away from Alder for a neck. Maple would be a better option.
  11. Hi Thirsty. I used to think the same out of site out of mind but I now do everything to best of my ability no matter if seen or not as I discovered it started to annoy me the fact that I could have done it better. I also think it keeps you in the right frame of mind ie not sloppy and this makes for a better instrument in the end.
  12. I have to say it is working out better than I had hoped. Always a bit nervous when I build something new in case I have missed something blindingly obvious and on past projects I have made some spectacular messes.
  13. Hi The first single cut guitar. Swamp ash body and top with a paduak accent. Maple/mahogany neck with a violet rosewood board and an ebony headplate. This will be a set neck to make the top fret access as good as possible. ABM 3D roller bridge and Sperzel locking tuners. 2 ACG Fatgit custom wound humbuckers coil tap on the volume and tone. 14. Got a fair bit done today. The neck is now fitted and the pickup routes done and the carving started. Gallery ACG
  15. More work on the Recurve today. The pear wood semi-tone lines are in the board. The truss rod fitted and the carbon rods. A change of plan I think I will now be make this a set neck. AC Guitars
  16. Again many thanks for the encouragement.
  17. The veneer I buy. The other laminates are sized using a planer or drum sander.
  18. Cheers Jon I was over at ERB. What makes a bass fall into the ERB camp. Is it 5 strings and above or is there a better definition.
  19. More work on both basses. The pup routes on the Harlot and the neck shaped using an asymmetric profile on this neck. Got the control cavity routed and made up a bibinga cover plate for the Recurve. http://static.flickr.com/97/223654684_b220e79a7e.jpg http://static.flickr.com/86/223654682_c21916c22f.jpg http://static.flickr.com/70/223654685_950dbbb88a.jpg http://static.flickr.com/89/223654686_32e94c3590.jpg we all know it's one pic per post right?
  20. Really like that neck joint and as you said interesting to see how others solve the same problem. Having looked at that I might get away with a bolt on for the 4 but it would be touch and go if there would be enough space for the thumb on the back of the neck. I see we share the same taste in accent lines.
  21. Hi Wez Yes bolt on. The access is a problem with the single cuts. I will let you know how I get on. This is a 5 string so there is more room to play with. I think if I have to build a 4 string I would go for a set neck. I am just about to start a single cut Skelf guitars and it will have a set neck.
  22. Thanks Ben and Setch. The single cut basses are quiet hard work to get right at least I find them harder than the usual type body. The Recurve is on about the 5th try before I was happy with it. The Skelf single cut was the original bass I had to make a double cut version of it it took just the 2 attempts.
  23. Many thanks guys for the posiytive comments they are really appreciated. I am a one man show I just work hard at it and at every given chance.
  24. I am also working on a Recurve single cut. You can see the spec at. www.acguitars.co.uk/galleryitem.php?ID=91
