  1. i think wezV summed up exactly why oursouls got my vote; and i agree with the later post about quality before quantity; but it came down to first/lasting impressions and i was a huge marvel comics nerd; so this is your kudos.
  2. by jumper wire, do you mean a ground wire soldered to the casing directly to an absolute ground source? i was moving the lugs around (poking at connections and wiggling wires) and it seems that a little josseling gets them perfect, playing and everything; then i put it down, and when i try later the problem is back; if im doing this meter thing right the pot is fine btw; so i'm suspecting something in the soldering but its a piss off, cuz they all look just fine; so im gonna redo the 2 volumes leads; which doesent make any sense but those are the ones that i was moving; thanks rip
  3. on 34'' basses with a low b the string thru option really tightens up that string while keeping a traditional scale; i'd consider the rest personal preference; but i guarentee it does have an effect; even beyond the break of the saddle
  4. so; in searching this problem the concensus seems to be a bad pot; i would assume this aswell; which is why i changed the pot the first time; and by change ;i mean drove 40 min to the closest long n mcquade and bought one the other story that comes up is checking w/ a meter; i got one at my shop, but i dont know how to use it; no time like the present; but im gonna hafta have it in front of me etc. but what if that checks out? what im expecting is to eithr see a reading of 0 (good) or something else on the meter from the 3rd lug of the volume pot; which would indicate a crap pot (?) its a 2 vol 1 tone setup all the pots except the p-bass vol pot work fine; the other volumes 3rd lug is grounded the same using a small wire connected to the back of the pot casing; thats the only thing that differs from any drawing ive seen where it looks like the lug is soldered itself to the pot. (i dont see that ever being an issue since the solder looks just fine) can i check my pot with a meter while its still wired? thank you
  5. mask off around your inlay (even 1/4" away from the route)fill the hole; mush it around wait for air bubbles do it again, then wipe the excess from the middle like you would pore fill; you will be only sanding off the trace amounts ; or if it is a big bubble of epoxy use a basturd to file flus to the wood and then sand with a block.
  6. are they from allparts? i think they had a blue sleeve..... they felt really flimsy an did not end up using them; i might take another look if i can find it.
  7. i grabbed my round file (1/2")and tightened up the radius of the corner by aiming for the curve directed towards the bridge and neck sides as opose to the side sides (???) basically looks more like a 90 without rmoving wood from the side edges of the route.............it made sence while i was writing....crap took me longer to write that do........
  8. so i was sanding the sealer on on eof my basses yesterday ,and thought for fun id stick the pickups in to see what the final look was gonna be etc. and they didnt fit! the corners were too big of a radius and clipping the corners of the pickup; i'm assuming since i checked the other 2 (same story i suck) that i didnt go back over my routes with my 3/8s bit and get that needed tightness; im oposed to trying to set my templates up again because ive tried it before and it never lines right up and looks really bad; the only other ting i was going to do is mask off the corner in a 90 and file a new corner; but this would be my 'no better way to handle it' approach, so if anyone has past expeirience plz chime in; im not against chisels and freehand routing with a dremel or even a router for the bulk; but still think i would have to clean it up with a basturd anyway! thanks
  9. well; i guess you have 2 options then; keep trying on scrap and get good at template making; (it's worth it; and when you get one perfect you technically never have to make it again!) or pay someone else to do it.
  10. im pretty sure you could buy either a plastic blank as a square and cut out everything or a strat shaped guard and route your own pickup holes
  11. mahogonay that has been cut and dressed down to 1/4" will probly cost as much as your body there; if your doing this on the cheap for learning purposes, just get a set of veneers for the top and back
  12. hmm;i thought somethig was wierd there, i thought maybe the picture got obscured; still prettier scarf joint than anyhting in music stores around here!
  13. k; so i finally go tthis thing back in my hands; its not 'as bad' as i thought; the buzz is loud but only rears its head when the treble is on full; but still, what did i buy the 'best' for if im gonna get unfavorable noises? checked the diagrams, its exact, as far as i can see, and what little soldering i had to do looks just fine, and their soldering looks perfect in every way; i wrote bestbassgear and bartolini, and theyre not sending any replies; anyone have any ideas or past experiences where they came up with something? i quikly switch th lead wire with a crapset of pbass pups and tested them off to the side and no hum anywhere, im gonna wire up a mock harness and test the pickup alone tonite; but if it is the pickup itself i thought surely this monster eq would cancelout unwanted noise; anyways thanks for reading pondering.
  14. i am sooo stealing that backlighting idea! thinkin more of a drilled out pattern with some routing that leaves enuff material to just let light thru; you will of course get full credit; but i dare you to try and stop me! muhahwhahwa!!!
  15. sounds good;i much prefer soldering everthing myself; but i like more is not being dissapointed about what shows up the mail; but if i came to wiring myself something like what you get on those bartolini eq's fugetabowtit!
  16. thanks guys; the problems i was having was that the site gave me no info; i understand their lingo now that i know whats coming but any section that sounds like info comes up as under construction im not someone who just asks without googling once or twice! thanks again
  17. thanks guys; just to be perfectly clear....here we go..... when i order the 2 pickups they each coming with i.e. volume tone jack i just throw away (not litterelry) everyting from the 2nd set exept a volume pot and wire them as stanard setup? i was under the impression they came in a harness like the bartolinis pre amp; thanks again, grant
  18. well; thanks guys; good ideas; i'm going w/ blue; i was more concerned about a colour appropriate for the poplar, as opose to a colour scheme for the maple; it will be sanded back with some brown stain or dye; then done blue Q: when doing a sandback where the top colour will be be a dye; is it better to use stain or dye for the sandback colour?
  19. ya! were on the 5th page here; its waay to cool looking to be patient!
  20. that board looks like bocote; nice body; it was a nice orange streak
  21. +1 for matchin maple board; tho keeping the rosewood out of it would be fun
  22. just to be clear; a&m is in cambridge Exotic woods is in burlington; and they got everything you could ever need...... minus pickups or hardware of any kind!
  23. excellent! that is a great refference thanx; but if thats the case;the scale is 30" from nut to saddle ,how much length is there from saddle to the ball? that seems like its cutting it pretty close just for intnation purposes?
