  1. I have to say that one of my biggest influences through the years has been Mr. Hetfield. Him and the Slayer duo has made a huge impact on me, as well as Adrian Smith and babyface from Iron Maiden. More recently I try not to let people influence me, and instead let me be the influence.. Highly unsucsessful tho.. lol

    :D

  2. I'm really thinking that I want to make an mdf template, rough cut inside and out with the coping saw, and route to shape with the dremel.

I'm actually thinking of using an existing plastic pickup ring as a template, then routing with a flush-trim bit. As long as my corners are pre-cut, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I think a plastic ring will be too flexible, get a metal pickup ring instead...

  3. There is still something wrong though...the drum sound on the entire album is awful.....it really takes away from the music.

Couldn't agree more. This is what totally destroys it for me. Ok, it's not St.Anger snare, but damn, it is completely lifeless and without, well, soul, for lack of a better word.

And Lars sounds like he has become too old to play this ****, but like deeeeeeeeesperately trying to do it anyway, it sounds completely forced at times, very little creativity in the playing, and..

well, I could go on and on about it, let's just agree that Lars' time is over...

  4. Yeah, I agree on that. Generally people like this is what I like the most in the metal industry. At the same time I think it is kinda weird that he could not get over whining about being kicked out of Metallica like 100 years ago. Seems weird that such a strong minded character has such problems getting over that kinda thing...

  5. Holy Wars is the only good song on that entire album

I can't really agree with you on that one, Tornado of Souls and Take no prisoners are good songs too, not to mention Hangar 18 which together with Holy Wars is what makes this album. I guess with this as with everything else, it's like the middle rear part of the human anatomy, very divided...

  6. Blegh. Awful. The thrash sound and pacing is there, but it's all empty underneath! It's like pop-punk compared to 70s/80s British punk, as that had some motivation and fire behind the music. This album has no reason for being as the politics and social climate that fired 80s thrash/speed have changed underneath it all.

The Day That Never Comes starts out with a HIM-esque clean/fuzzy guitar thing that is sole property of HIM - what they do they do very well, and it's been blatantly copied. The first solo is a rehash of the first solo from Fade To Black. Then Load is churned back up. After three minutes of this turgid rehash, the track speeds up into something resembling the drums and guitars from the "Just leave me alone!!" breakdown from Sanitarium crossed with the harmonised guitar solo from the outro of One without even sounding good, having correct placement in song structure or even touching the awesomeness of the aforementioned tracks.

Metallica have proven they are no longer capable of writing new music, and perhaps realise that their only real integrity comes from the boundaries they pushed as part of the Big Three of the 80s. Yet there will be no more Ride The Lightnings or Batterys or Blackeneds. Kirk is no longer capable of constructing solos which follow a characterful progression with melodic twists and turns over crazy hammerhand brick walls of rhythm the old Jaymz, because that old Jaymz is no longer capable of fun, fire or fury and Kirk is only good at doing what he's always done. And he's repeating it over and over again, badly. Lars is still drumming. What's up with that? Apparently they have a bassist again who is still not Cliff, or indeed Jason.

To requote Zimmers Hole "While you were shouting at the devil....we were in league with Satan":

"Bob Rock can suck a ...."

Fleming doesn't have a Metallica to work with, although he has elements of that early-mid Metallica sound back. Just add Metallica, please.

If an unknown band released this album, they would be chased down and laughed at until they died from it. I fart in this album's general direction.

    Amen!

  7. I seem to remember having seen it somewhere here, but I can't find it.

So, how much wood do I have to leave below the truss rod?

Yes, I can imagine that it is wood type dependant and what not, but like in general.

2mm - 3mm.. I'm using StewMac's Hot Rod and the last (first) I made was slightly

too thick to my taste, so I hope that I can make my next thinner. But I would very

much like to know how much I need so I don't break my neck... :D

    Thanks!!

  8. I think that if you want to build your own guitar, you should go for it!

Do some good research, and just dive into it, and you will learn a lot, make some mistakes that you will learn from, and in the end, you will have a guitar that you can be really proud of. Then after a while you will build another one.. :D

Just keep in mind that your first guitar will most likely not be perfect. I have only built one so far, but it is quite playable, and it sounds fairly good.

Just have a lot of patience, and be accurate!

I say go for it, you will have tons of fun!

  9. Orgmorg, according to the manufacturers brochure it is the throat depth that is 7,5" (approx).

Usually prices over here are insanlely much more expensive than anywhere else.. hehe..

I'd order one from the states if it were not for the power differences we have.

But we will see, I'm not going to ruin myself getting this one, so... :D

    Thanks a lot tho.. :D

  10. What do you think about this guys?

I can get this for about 190€/300$.

Could be a good addition to my little shop, or is it a waste of money?

    thanks for any input...

  11. Hey there folks!

I've been thinking and drawing for a little while now, and I think now is the time to get a little feedback perhaps.

I'm going to do two guitars at once this time, just for fun. :D

    ESP F Model - Morfeus.

Neck through design - Curious about that one, never did it before.

    27th scale.

    Maple neck, Ash body.

I think that I'll just let the drawings speak for themselves.

If anyone have any ideas on how to actually acheive the designs on this one, I'd be happy to get some input.

    Rhoads V

    Neck through.

    27th scale

    Maple neck, Ash body.

Still didn't decide on what finish to have on this, nor the inlays.

Got some ideas, but nothing that really stuck to my mind yet, so I'll just leave that for now.

Would be nice to hear what you guys think of these.

    Cheers!!!

  12. This is looking real sweet man!!!!!!

I gotta build myself a couple more... :D

The Limba looks awesome, I'm kinda envious on this one.

I never liked wood colored guitars, but after frequenting this forum

for a couple of years or so now, I'm leaning more and more towards

    building a couple myself.. :D

    Kudos on this one, congrats!!!!
