  1. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRG...rentRGA7s11.jpg got the UV jack drilled out, cavities routed, and covers made for them.
  2. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRG...rrentRGA7s7.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRG...rrentRGA7s8.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRG...rrentRGA7s9.jpg carved the top today on the all mahogany one, its sanded to 80 grit right now, and carved the neck heel as well. electronics cavity will be next, i'm going to be doing just a ound hole for a single volume knob, and then another hold for the UV style jack.
  3. i don't have an eye for aesthetics? wes the comic mod!
  4. you're at odds with your own statement. and really, you find that more tasteful than mine or matts? compared to that thing, mine and matt's v are infinitely more conservative in appearance. the moser v looks like itd grow legs and bite me.
  5. reminds me of moser stuff too... but with a helluva lot more taste.
  6. i don't think i'd call that "pulled off", its pretty silly looking! but you're right, 8 in line can work, but its very very likely to be neck heavy, where something more compact like 4+4 wouldn't be quite as heavy.
  7. how come you didn't just go with a straight cavity?
  8. the first mahogany one was just practice i don't remember if i ever mentioned it on here, but as of last month, this is my livelihood, so the final product has to pretty much be perfect... i almost wish i was still building for myself, except i still enjoy building for others a LOT
  9. My 1987 Jem is made out of Basswood and I've had no issues with the trem posts whatsoever and I've used the hell out of that thing. I don't see a problem with the use of basswood. If the post wasn't snug to start with, it only gets worse from there. If it was tight at the factory, there should be no issues. The posts are an easy fix with just a bit of epoxy. basswood is notorious for tremelo posts ovaling out. maybe you got lucky, but most people with basswood bodies and trems aren't, especially with that old of a guitar.
  10. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/IMG00266.jpg more progress. tomorrow or possibly after i take a break, i'll be shaping the sides, and routing the edge for my carve depth.
  11. well, i have to restart the all mahogany one, i'll bet cutting the new body out today. i somehow got the neck pocket placed incorrectly, and the hole i drilled for the ferrule went over the edge of the neck heel. it'll make good scrap wood really sucks though, i know dan was really looking forward to this being done very soon, and i unfortunately can't deliver, but i'm going to be working on dan's almost exclusively for now, to catch to where i was. alright, gonna be routing the neck pocket on the all mahogany one today, back to square one, but this allows me to conform to the original spec. it's only going to be a 1 pickup guitar, so i'm doing the neck pocket route a very different way, instead of using my RG7 template, i'm going to use the method Roberto-Venn taught us, so the neck is lined up centerlined, and parallel with the centerline, and i'll route inside the MDF. MDF is very flat, so the pocket should be fairly tight fitting. this one is measured in there perfectly this time, there will be 0 issue, and i'm also not cutting the heel until after its routed and drilled, just to be double sure. the quilt topped one is bound, and getting ready for pore filling and finishing. i decided to go with a UV/JEM style jack on this one, a last minute decision, but it went extremely smoothly. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/IMG00262.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/IMG00263.jpg http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/IMG00264.jpg
  12. Like I stated above, he knows the expenses so everybody needs to lay off that its just beating a dead horse. The hipshot bridges are $114 from where I get it and thats a far cry from 150... And he will either use an 808 or a 45 Dc bass pickup. Both work fine, so please stop badgering him with parts costs, he knows. Bass-man43 if you want a better price, pm me.
  13. oh yeah, and the 808 right now is 108 shipped on guitarpartsdepot right now(free shipping on anything over 99)
  14. hipshot bridges aren't that expensive, i know guitarpartsdepot quoted me 60 for the 7 string bridge, but now i'm a hipshot dealer, and i can get em myself for that much
  15. you sure its a good idea to jump into an 8 before building a 6 or 7? i'm glad i built 2 6 string necks before building the 2 7's i've built, its a very natural progression, going from 6 to 7 to 8 string, imo.
  16. the worry i would have about laminated fretboards like that would be the truss rod breaking the wood in the middle a lot easier than on a single piece or melted fretboard...
  17. in the first post though the all mahogany one is now gonna be oil finished.
  18. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/dscf5123.jpg drilled the neck screws, drilled the ferrules, and carved the AANJ on the quilted maple one.
  19. i've got a bit with a 5/16" cut, but it requires oversized templates. also, the lopro edge 7 route has pretty squared front corners, which is necissary on the LoPro edge 7 if you want the route to be a tight fit., though the rear corners are a bit more rounded.
  20. Thanks X I love the texture to. It looked pretty radical before I scalloped it too, LMII has great fretboards! As for the pickups, I think there crappy old hammer pickups lol. Honestly since it was my first build I figured I'd ruin it before I even needed pickups so I bought some cheep ones. i refuse to buy from LMII. their prices are absurd.
  21. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRG...rrentRGA7s3.jpg worked more on the rear routing and the trem cavity routing http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/Templates.jpg also made a ton of templates today from a scrap RG7620 body
  22. got the all mahogany one routed, though i made a booboo in the neck pocket, but it'll be fixed tomorrow when the glue dries(its a mix of mahogany dust and wood glue). i made a template today that includes both neck pocket/neck pickup, bridge pickup, and lopro edge/OFR7 route, all on centerline, and all properly spaced, and below the trem route i drilled the holes for the RG7 fixed bridge screws and string through holes. i also routed a binding channel on the quilt top one, and started rough carving it, it looks a little burnt right now, but i only got it within about 90%, the rest will be done with files and sandpaper, all by hand, and it won't look burnt when all is said and done. the channel you see routed on the all mahogany one is a channel to tell me where the edge of the carve goes, and it'll get roughed in in just a little bit, i'm still working on making templates from the RG7620 i have now, including templates for the cavity covers, the entire tremelo route, and the input jack cavity and input jack cavity cover, and electronics cavity.
