  1. I've been thinking about this all day and seeing as how the top is going to be carbon fiber and the sides are going to be wood that is 2 mm in thickness, will there be anyway to put a binding on? I'm pretty sure the traditional way of putting a binding on with a router will obviously not work.
  2. I like the first one when you do an image search. Looks cool and easy to do. that's because TIG welding is hard.
  3. I was thinking something like this, without the f holes Carbon fiber! I should have thought of that. I remember seeing some acoustic guitars with a carbon fiber top on it. That would rock. I got the design from first act
  4. I got this idea while I was watching a documentary of some Prisoners of War escaping from captivity, using a glider that was built in the attic of their place of imprisonment. One of the things that caught my eye was the outer shell they put on the glider. The outer shell consisted of cloth that was saturated with some sort of shellac making it hard. I then thought, why couldn't someone use this to make a guitar, a semi hollobody perhaps. So would a semi hollow body guitar consisting of shellacked cloth work?
  5. Sure, I agree, but if my guitar looked like that, then it would be a replica. I love the shape of a Parker, but I wanted to stay closer to a tele and adding an extra horn didn't allow me to do that in my eyes. And I fully agree, Parker's headstock is rockin.
  6. Alright, fair enough. sticking with the orignal plan.
  7. right, i was just comparing the nite fly to my own. So the difference between a good flowing squared off guitar and mine is the upper horn and my tele round over?
  8. so the only thing that makes this guitar within the limits is it's upper horn is square as well? these are actually the guitars i took into consideration while designing
  9. I understand where you are at with staying in the limits, but personally I wanted to try stepping out of the limits. Seeing as how this is my first build, I'm going have to take GregP's advice and not mess with the original design too much. It'll just make things A. too hard and B. not fun. Thanks again guys. Plus after I get this guitar out of the way, then I'll be able to start something new and different and maybe less out of the box
  10. I got this idea after searching for a square horned guitar on the forum. I'm not sure it fit's the guitar, but I had a similar idea when I initially drew up plans for it.... Soooo, should I keep the stripe, or lose it? Link to thread I kind of got the idea from. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...0horn&st=15
  11. IMHO this guitar has been amputated.
  12. So I have mixed results from the peanut gallery, I'm liking it. Causing a little friendly controversy on the ole forum. It took a while to get the Negative Nancys out of the woodwork. Thanks again for all the input. If anyone would be able to post pictures or links to a square horn guitar that seems to fit the style, please do so.
  13. I tried adding a piece to the pickguard, and I didn't like it. I don't think taking away from it would work, so as of now I plan on leaving it as is. If anyone has any ideas in reguards to leaving the pickguard/changing it, i'd love to hear them.
  14. Now that you mention it, I see what you mean, i'll try an alternate design. Maybe a two piece pickguard would work, I don't know, I'll try some things and see if I like them.
  15. I think i have a better hang of Google SketchUP. Here are the results. Hopefully I can start posting real pics soon. I'm almost finished with the guitar neck, so as soon as i get pictures of that I'll start a post in the works in progress forum.
  16. The reasoning behind this build was to kind of model after a gibson firebird, and I hadn't really looked at one in a while and after doing so, i realize that 1/4" is way too much. I think I'll have a little more of a lip on it than a firebird, but certainly not a 1/4". Thanks for all the help.
  17. Edit: file deleted, see drawings below
  18. ya some guy did make an icefly, http://www.freewebs.com/guitarbuilding/index.htm
  19. Thanks for the input. seeing as how this is my first build, I need any and all criticism and advice that anyone is willing to give.
  20. so i plan on building this for my shop class. I just wanted some feed back. The middle part of the body which is outlined with the body contours will be raised about a quarter of an inch.
