  1. It's not "been done"... It IS done. Twisted neck + stripped TR = firewood
  2. Actually, I didnt CNC this build. The slotting & inlay was done on the laser. Everything else was done by hand. You can see where I forstener'd out the pup & control cav. routs. Just shoot me an email of what you need: doug<at>parableguitars<dot>com <edit: removed direct email link to prevent spambots harvesting the address>
  3. I've been working on getting this build ready for finishing. I'm unsure if I want to do a Tung oil, or a poly clear...I'm thinking poly. I like a smooth heel on my set neck builds. While sanding, I ran into this little "mishap". I guess I got a little carried away with the 80 grit. I knew it would be close... I just mis-judged it by a few thousanths. Nothing I can do now but live with it.
  4. Very cool! One of these days I'm going to make a mandolin.
  5. Thanks for the info guys Both of these necks are sold...
  6. No problem Kenny....Save your $$ for the CNC. Here is an additional pic for those who have PM'd me:
  7. SOLD! to the gentleman from California ( my Paypal is huntindoug@aol.com )
  8. Well...Time to clear out the shop. These are all "back burner" projects that will never happen. Email me if interested: doug@parableguitars.com 25 fret, 25.5" scale bound maple board w/ oak leaf pearlessence inlay. I was saving this for a future acoustic build. It's bound with an abalone looking binding. Kinda "woodsy" looking. 16" radius $60 + shipping 25 fret, 25.5" scale African rosewood board with indian rosewood Iommi cross inlays. The board is tapered. Sorry for the bad pic. $60 + shipping http://www.parableguitars.com/forsale/2.jpg 24 fret, 25.5" scale Macassar ebony board with pearlessence "bloody sharkfin" inlays (not yet glued in). This is the prototype I recently did for the Jackson CS 12 pice run. $80 + shipping http://www.parableguitars.com/forsale/3.jpg Import mahogany set neck. Gibson scale & HS. Neck has binding & nut installed. I have 2 of these. The heel is slightly off center, but it's still useable. These would be great for someone wanting to start thier first project. $50 each + shipping http://www.parableguitars.com/forsale/4.jpg
  9. I've been buying/useing Jescar EVO Gold for a while now, and I really like it. I find it to be just as hard as most nickel wires, and it files & buffs up nice. I bought a bulk spool of jumbo .057 x .110 wire that came in today. The spool will last me forever, so I decided to offer it here. It's pre bent to an 11" radius. I'll be selling it in three 16" sections (48" total) to keep the shipping costs down. It's a little pricey compared to plain wire, but it makes a huge difference in the look of the build. I don't plan a build that has gold hardware without useing it. Cost is $16 for 48" + shipping. Or roughly $20 shipped in the lower 48 states. Email me at doug@parableguitars.com if you need any
  10. Ok... Here is a pic of the board fresh out of the laser. The multi-scale was drawn in CAD, then I scribed the board with the laser. After that I sawed the slots with a hand fret saw. Then back in the laser for the inlay. I could have done the inlay at the same time, but I hadn't decided on an inlay design yet. Soon I will be offering pre-slotted multi-scale boards on my website.
  11. In this pic you can see how I had to index the neck wood. http://www.parableguitars.com/walnut/walnut5.jpg The real challenge was indexing the scarf joint:
  12. This is a back burner build that I decided to dust off and finally finish…Or at least work on some more. I glued the neck in earlier today. The neck is a piece of walnut & maple marquetry that a friend gave me. I normally wouldn’t use a piece like this for a neck, but for some reason I couldn’t resist. The wood was from a pile that was going to be thrown away. A friend of mine rents a house. He was cleaning out the garage for the landlord and came across a bunch of wood in the attic, so he called me to come check it out. Most of it was cracked & checked beyond use. I got a few good useful pieces. His landlord told me the previous owner was a retired carpenter who died several years ago. The wood had been in the attic for 15 or 20 years. I thought it would be cool to have the unknown carpenters work live on. Specs: Parable “Paradigm” Multi-scale 6 string 24.5” to 25.5” scale set neck Maple fretboard with walnut interlocking scroll inlay Black hardware, binding & accent Seymour Duncan 2 hum layout with coil tap Jescar EVO gold jumbo fretwire 3 piece walnut carved top body Allparts “single string” bridges Gotoh tuners
  13. Very nice top! I like that you have no inlays too. Very clean looking.
  14. The analine dye is mixed in denatured alcohol, so it evaporates quickly and doesnt leave any noticeable residue.
  15. I spent yesterday working on 3 necks. All with maple boards. One is a non distressed neck. This pic is of the one with the glowing inlay. The idea was to distress the back of the neck while maintaining a smooth surface. At the same time I wanted a hint of a caution bar design. I used yellow analine dye, then masked it off, and put the black stripes on, again with analine dye. After sanding with 500 grit, I went back and did the splatter. Then sanded with 1000 grit. The neck is very smooth. It should darken up a bit after the clear goes on.
  16. OK... I have been doing R&D for this project since my last post. The customer that get's this neck wanted it to be dirtier. He wanted an "Excessive...over the top...almost cremated look". So, here you go. I'm not sure if I can get it much dirtier looking without ruining the playability. Although, I'll probobly add some more black splatters before fretting. The inlay is the glow material I mentioned in an earlier post. It's .125" thick, with the glowing part at the bottom. The idea was to make it look like the radioactive material was splattered on, and is burning down into the board. I also decided to make each neck slightly different. The distressing will range from mild, to extreme. Let me know what you guy's think... http://www.parableguitars.com/ptnuke/ptnuke13.jpg http://www.parableguitars.com/ptnuke/ptnuke14.jpg http://www.parableguitars.com/ptnuke/ptnuke15.jpg
  17. I did a run of 12 of these a couple months ago for Jackson. I did the atrwork , cut the inlays & cut the pockets. The guy's in the CS glued them in. They tell me one will be hanging at NAMM. Too bad I can't go this year http://www.parableguitars.com/inlay/bloody%20logo.jpg
  18. Very nice Kenny It looks very comfortable to play
  19. Guys.....It's all good A lot of cool builds this month. I ended up voting for Wez on this one. That neck looks to be as smooth as silk. As far as my build goes... The body was cut out on a band saw, shaped by hand with files, and the pup routs, control cav & neck pocket rout were done the old fashion way I drew the artwork in a CAD program, and of course the flames were done on the laser. I almost didnt enter it. I'm not at all happy with the neck. I have a replacement neck in the works. Like I said in the build thread, I should have stuck to the original plan...Oh well.
  20. Looks like you are onto something Matt. These small builds are definately cool. Do I see a mini doubleneck in the future?
  21. Just got off the phone with Mike Learn. The 2 prototypes are going to him for airbrush as soon as I get them base coated. If youve never seen his work, check it out...it's amazing: http://www.mikelearn.com
  22. OK...After 5 1/2 days of the flu, I think (hope) I'm back. The bright side is I think I lost about 20 lbs Here is the maple neck that goes on the 2nd prototype. When finished, this one will go to a friend for Christmas. A little late, but what the hey. He really liked this neck, but not the frets, so I poped them out, and will replace them with the Jescar gold EVO jumbo's. I wanted to use the laser to burn spots in the FB, but the end result was too rough. So, instead I "dirtied up" the board with various dyes. It wasnt exactly the effect I was looking for, but it will do I think. If I don't like the finished product, I can always make another neck later on.
  23. Well...Nothing like a case of the flu to bring production to a screeching hault. The last 3 full days have been nothing but: Bed...bathroom...bed...bathroom...ect. I hope to get back on track soon.
