Well it was hard work keeping all the wires of the electronics in the body enough so that i could screw the pickguard back down But i managed it in the end. I put everything together and plugged in the guitar with one A string strung through the bridge whilst using my hand as a tuning peg and strummed a note or two to make sure all was working and adjusted the pickup heights accordingly though not very accurately. At least i knew everything worked Btw the pickups are Lace sensor Hot gold pickups. Not the gold set as a first thought. The Bridge single is 13.2K the neck and middles 6k I took the guitar up to a freinds shop and he drilled holes for the tuners and a new set of holes for the locking nut that was drilled slightly wrong. The Locknut was duly installed. The guitar was then given a full setup and clean. The pickups are very sweet there are good if subtle differences between the pups and the neck mid and bridge mid ive finally found the uses for ! the guitars great for blues and funk playing. Amazingly the guitar only needed a few adjustments to the bridge saddles and it was ready to play. I picked white strat knob covers in the end. I just wanted the classic strat finish and the numbers The wonderbar works fantasticly hardly going out of tune. With the neck being put under pressure since the setup from the strings the tunings even better. The range on the wonderbar is good. I can pull up a step pulling and pushing downwards. oooo about 2 steps. not sure yet. I think i did a lame ass job at soldering however. and i reckon after a bit of use may come loose so another job to do there. So final specs are. Asocaster (5!) peice alder body semi laminated. Red mahagony dyed finish USA electronics jackplate and Tuners. Washburn wonderbar bridge Bridge mid and neck Lace sensor pickups ((hot gold)) 21 fret one peice maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. Anyway heres some samples to give you a little idea of the tone. I dub thee guitar theee ASOcaster ((i realise that the guitars before mine are waaaaay to good compared to mine but meh.. lol)) Ok i have now finished my project for my customised strat and i want to share with you the tribulations of the project. This is my first guitar project ever. My task recently has been to customising a squier strat to be a little better then it usually would be, I was given this guitar froma freind of mine as he wanted me to kit it out for myself. It was just a basic bog standard affinity strat with the 5 peice body and rather nice headstock. I had many ideas to which i wanted it to be, One of which was a fretless sustainer equipped guitar, But i thought this a little outlandish and expensive. So i settled on making it into a bog standard Funk guitar. This is a picture of what it was. My first job was to strip the entire thing. To just the bare minimums, Unfortunatly i took some of the original primer off which is what i didnt want to do, but kept it as it was, hopefully to finish sanding later. I sold off all the old parts away, including, bridge, Tuners, pickups, scratchplate, etc basically until i was left with the body and neck, I swapped the rather nice squiers neck with a so-so kramer strat neck, as i wanted the other neck in a different project. Now if it was my choice it would be a maple fingerboard neck, but beggars cant be choosers. This ws the body underneath the candy red paint Then i had to decide what i wanted out of the guitar, What i did want to do was have a decent tremelo bridge, and from previous experience with the tremelo i decided on a washburn wonderbar Bridge in lovely chrome. Which is still on order, but i have a spare gold one to use as a base for calculations and drill holes and such. I plumped for fender lace sensor gold set, ((red in bridge, silver, in mid, and blue in neck)) At any rate, i exchanged the original squier neck for a Kramer focus neck as i found it more sexy for this guitar. These are used by many blues/funk artists, for the nice smooth neck pup and the snappy bridge pup. I got the set of relatvily cheap so its all good then i decided on some different hardware. I managed to get a ESp replacement pickguard from a freind for SSS config. Only a 1 ply guard, simplicity at its best . Then i bought original fender USA strat electronics, pots and jackplate and tuners. The tuners have to have new holes drilled in the body to go in. Due to old the chinese el cheapo tuners needing 2 screw holes each. NEw holes have to be drilled for the wonderbar locking nut, and bridge, The jackplate and pickguard. Now i decided on a lovely natural finish on the strat, I went out to my local b&q store and bought some wood dye, to make the strats body look more.. "woody" being the technical term. I bought the red mahagony flavour :licklips: And then some clear gloss varnish ((honest mistake should have bought matt.)) At the time my freind Roman, ((known to you as the customisation guru streamline)) was visiting my house and he helped me apply the oil and varnish thanks roman this is what the body looked like after the oil had been applied. The marks on the above picture is where i sanded down past the primer, so it gave it a rugged "just been beaten up" look which appealed to me. we applied one coat of varnish only. Now im waiting for the new chrome wonderbar to come, pickups and get the whole thing put together with brand new white volume covers((or silver you guys recommend me what would look nice )) The chrome wonderbar came in and all the electronics. The pickups came just today too . Well, I wired all the electronics ((fender USA strat with 250K pots)) Standard strat switching and soldered them to the pickups taking special care over the grounding of the body wire. I tried using the bridge as a soldering point but because it was made out of a special alloy i cannot solder the wire to the bridge part. So i sellotaped the insulation to the cavity and let the bridge slam shut on the exposed wire part. This is the first time ive completely wired a pickguard up and im very happy with the results . Also i managed to get some SNAZZY chrome dome strap pins, that look very nice on the strat . The picture below is me halfway through the wiring Continued

I actually own a 36 fret guitar, called a WAshburn EC-36, It was one of only two commercially succesful 36 fretters in history. They were made for two years in the 80's along with the 29 fret version, 200 36 fretters were made, in japan. The quality is amazingand the thru neck is just divine. i have one in a red and black crackle finish which was the most produced one. If you need anymore information just say i'd like to consider myself an expert

Ok guys, I have Just measured my cheap floyd on my indie guitar as i want to replace it with an OFR. The measurements i made are exactly the same as an OFR, BUT, my current ofr has a slant on it, and the rout follows that slant. i have taken a picture here http://www.geocities.com/angelfyreuk/floyd.JPG ((right click on the link and click "save target as" The picture isent very clear, but you can see, where i have marked on the picture, the darker area underneath the slant part on the floyd is the rout, On a real OFR it is curved and not slanted like that. Basically, would a OFR fit into this type of rout without me carving away at it to make it curved? Cheers. guys. Rob

Hey guys. Im considering what sort of finish i would like for my telecaster. I remember seeing a guitar a long time ago, that had a Quilted maple top , but it was dyed White, It looked really nice. i think it was of the PRS stable of guitars. Thing is when i try looking for a picture of this sort of effect i cant find anything! Is there a place where i can get a Quilted maple veneer in white? Or if not, is there an easy way of dying a maple top with white? Apparantly it could be quite hard due to the fact that white is white and isent exactly transparant. Hmm its interesting, what sort of condition is it in, and does it have a maple fingerboard out of interest>? Thing is, for the money i will be having to pay for shipping i might as well buy one over here lol. it'll be about the same price. I will wait a few more days to see what other members can come up with. but that sounds rather coo^^ . Ok guys, i have beenon the search for a bass guitar for ages, after checking out shops around my area, i find that theres nothing that piques my interest, so im turning to you guys for help. I currently reside in Bristol in the Uk, i have about £200 $350 to spend on a bass guitar ((has to include postage and packaging)) This is to be used a backup to my current bass guitar. I will preferably want either a 6 string, or any weird/wonderful looking 4 string basses from the 80's maybe. it must have no mechanical problems or faults, Im not fussed on pickup configurations or anything like that, its only bass hehe. Its basically a guitar with 1 string and 3 spares anyway:). |I do like bright and brash colours. Such as hot pink and luminescent green. But you know, make me an offer on a bass and i may just take it . As you can guess im a little desperate ^^. Rob

Heya guys. Ive joined a local gigging indie band and im dead chuffed to be in it Anyways. I love my current bass amp which is a 150 watt laney 4x10 stack. But the problem is i need to get a better/backup bass. I love my current bass to bits, its all cheap and cheerful. And i love playing on it. However due to me being a gigging musician i need a backup or better bass. I currently have around £300 to spend. I do play indie and funk basslines although i also have a penchant for glam rock. Im also a fan of 80's guitars with Bright colours. Im currently looking at a 80s BC rich Platinum series warlock. This specific bass. http://www.jcguitars.com/bcpwbs1.JPG Because of my position of the world, i cannot play this bass until I receive it. i have been in contact with the owner who seems a rather nice genuine guy. anyway. I need some help into whether anyone can tell me anything about the quality of 80s bc rich basses. I know the more modern ones arent very good. What were the pickups like on these 80s basses? were they more versatile then for just metal as i do play a rather lot of slap. ALso what is the string spacing like on a platinum warlock? Is it more akin to a P-bass or jazz bass>? I prefer playing on wider fingerboards and string spacing with basses. Well i am very interested in them. I was thinking of upgrading the pickups , maybe make it into an active circuit. i as thinking of getting a second one that the guy has for sale if i like them enough and put a kahler trem onto it. Please if you hve something to say make sure its something to do with my questions. I appreciate the opinions but alot of stigma against bc rich basses are wrong. alot of people only put that because some other person sdaid they werent very good. But 80's Guitars are generally better made then the current Bc riches. Rob

Hmm ok i think ive reworded it wrong, its a brand new pickup and the previous pickup that was on there which was also practically brand new had this problem. Maybe it isent so much feedback as it is hum? or just noise in general? whenever i stop touching the strings or dont play anything it starts squealing rather badly.

Ok guys, ive just recently installed a Black diamond washburn ((actually seymour duncan)) paul stanley signtaure pickup into my H-s-s superstrat. I soldered the black wire to the bridge position on the 5 way , the bare wire onto the volume pot, and the green wire also onto the volume pot. The other two wires, red and ((white i think?)) i soldered together. Now i am getting alot of feedback, and i allways did with old pickup to, so i need to sheild the electronics, How would this best be done? How would i go about doing it with common household kitchen foil for example? Cheers Rob

Heya guys, im customising a telecaster i managed to get for cheap, i just managed to shape the headstock to what i wanted, unfortunatly, there is one problem. ,the 6th tuner where the high E will go. If i put it the same place as where they would normally go, then there woul dbe overhang from the tuner, and i dont particulay want this at all ((my fault for not looking at what i was doing)). So i have two other options, which are. the one in this picture... This isent the ideal option as i think it looks rather ugly, but it doesant have any over hang, and it would be resonably sturdy, thought on it guys? http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/attac...&postid=1196142 Or i could attempt to do this, the problem is the screwhole would be very close to the edge of the headstock, is there a chance of splitting the wood and ruining my chances? i much prefer this way. if possible. Heya guys, I really would like to replace my current Licensed trem with either a OFR or a Gotoh copy. It must be gold plated locking nut not essential. I would like the posts and basically everythingto install the trem with apart from the locking nut. Will only buy if posted on Ebay. Open to offers, how much will you guys sell one to me? Jim deacon guitars are down my local shop, im afraid to say they are quite cheap. something like £110 for guitar/strap/lead/amp package. but if it plays nice dont worry about it . Id be seriously wondering about the quality of the body wood though, do you know how many peices its made of?
