  1. Im putting together a alder bodied strat style guitar, but its rear routed and routed for 2 humbuckers, im in the same delima, i would suggest p100's, thats what im thinking about doing, with a push pull pot so you can have the hum cancelling for the harder stuff, great distortion with the rat, i like that pedal, but with single coil hum, kinda messy sounding, and then the single coil soapbar sound for the overdriven tube sounds, bluesy, at least thats what im considering, hope that helps, thats what im basing my decesion on, and welcome to the site. jeremy
  2. yea, that looks easy enough to build, proabably less than what it would cost to ship the thing, thanks for the info brian jeremy
  3. Nah, hes not interested, he wants a fender shaped peghead, hey its his dream guitar so I understand, good luck in finding it a new home. Jeremy
  4. sadly no, its just like a photocopied document, the tape will pick up the print off the page just like a laser printer because they are basically the same type of print method, but the inkjet print method doesnt burn the text or logo into the paper, it sprays it on and the paper soaks it up instead of it being burned into it, its kinda hard to explain, but to sum it up no it wouldnt work. so sorry scotch tape should do the trick with laser printer, only drawback is most likely you will only have a black label. For an inkjet, I get sheets of water transfer decal from a hobby shop, I used to build scratch kit models and make my own decals, I did the same thing with my fender strat project, I got creative with the jpg's off of fender.com and used photoshop to resize off the jpg's to the approx real size, then whited out the yellowed areas of the maple around the text and sphaghetti "fender" and printed it out on the inkjet and the model decal sheets, they are easy to get ahold of. The small amount of yellow that I could not get too didn't really show up too bad since the necks yellowed maple, its obvious up close its a computer rendered logo and not real but at first glance its convincing. If I ever sell it, yea right Ill get some steel wool and take it off. Never Never try to pass off a clone fender as a real fender, its just not right. Thats my opinion. Good luck. Jeremy
  5. Just to let you know no question is stupid John, we all gotta learn somehow right, so no worries. As for the cutting the frets out I wouldnt know either and would have to ask that stupid question too hehehe just kidding, seriously I dont know but im sure someone on here will be able to help ya out, good luck. Id kinda like to know myself. Jeremy
  6. I cut my own graphite nut on my strat, the key is to have the right gear, this webpage might help you out some.http://guitarrage.virtualave.net/guitar/re...pairs/nuts.html I would say patience is the key to the whole job, just go slow and take your time, only bad thing about graphite is having to use a lubricant, I think graphite should be lubricated but thats my own experience. I like some stuff called guitar grease wich i get locally at my shop or you can get it at stewmac http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?a...atalog/sku.html or im sure elsewheres. Oh forgot to mention having the correct nut files works wonders, I was lucky enough to borrow some from a local shop. I play with very very light strings, 8's but if you are going to use a more normal guage, like 10's then you might consider a precut nut. Hope this helps some what, if you cannot borrow some nut files, I swear it makes it easier if you use files specifically for slotting nuts than just a hacksaw and regular files then im sure stewmac or warmoth can hook you up. Ebay too. Good luck. BTW I found cutting my own nut to be a bitch, I might have someone do it for me this time, I am looking at 2 nuts to have to deal with at some point right now so Im not looking forward to it, it was the most difficult part of my strat project. Jeremy
  7. I have been looking to buy a fender style neck, but I might be able to use that neck, hmm no tuners or locking nut, I dont know what a fair price is either, they go all across the board, if you dont hear anything for a while get back to me, a buddy of mine wants to build a strat styled guitar, but he wants a lefty neck so we can mount it right handed and have a reversed headstock, so it might be of use to me, we shall see, ill have to ask him jeremy
  8. wow. even comes with a backhoe and front loader, at least you could repair the potholes with your new streets and utilities dept wow i can not belive that someone actually put a whole town up for auction, ahhhh ebay, now its true that you can find anything on ebay like they say jeremy

    OMG

yea, bobbin toppers rule, you rock brian with those bobbin toppers
  10. I just replyed to mikecncy123's post on his first project, he mentioned about the nut, I said cutting the nut was a bitch for me, and now im faced with that lovely task again times 2, both my projects will be needing nuts, from scratch, since I was able to borrow nut files before im sure he would let me do that again, but im considering the earvana nuts this time, http://www.earvana.com has anyone here tried a guitar out before with one installed, or installed one before, etc. advice, opinions, anything would be appreciated, its suppost to be compenstated for intonation, to make open chord forms more precise, I dunno, its just an ideal, it sounds good, I figured I just might try on out. What do you think. Thanks in advance. Jeremy
  11. Cutting your own nut is a bitch, at least it was for me, it took me two tries to get it the way I wanted, I guess it depends, Im very picky with my setups, I was lucky to borrow a guys nut files, it really helps to have the right tools, I play 8's, really thin strings, most precut nuts are more like for 10's, so basically unless your going to play a non typical string guage, or have an extremely high or low action, like me, i always lowball it, fenders are supposed to be buzzy anyways, hehehe then try the precut nut route, if not, then get a good set of files, from stewmac or somewheres like that, or try one of these out, i think my next 2 projects are going to have earvanas on it, http://www.earvana.com I have been wanting to try it out, just take your time, carefully think about what string guage your going to be most likely playing with, and take baby steps in sanding the bottom and filing the slots as once you taken too much away, its time for another blank and start all over again if you have any other questions ill try and help out jeremy
  12. Bear, did u repaint the body in butterscotch or just get it that way? as for the relicizing it, why dont u try his cased for 20 years method, i think since the way your describing it, thats the way to go jeremy
  13. well for christmas i got a digital camera and 2 project guitars just itching to have pictures taken, as i progress into these projects ill be able to share thier transformations with you guys and gals, btw wonder if there are any gals who frequent/tinker with guitars on this site. Where are u, I would like to take ya out for a drink hehehe ok wishful thinking, hey someone who plays guitar and to go drinking with is great, but a female too, wow what a deal ok back to the other, yea, im super excited, i already started sanding down the mako, its plywood of course but I kinda like the zebra look of the different plys on the body edges, i just might go with the clear look, the top ply is a nice maple or alder veneer i think, its a nice grained piece, as soon as I learn how to use my new camera and share pictures I'll let you look and see what you think, possibly this would be a good candidate for a burst, oh well, ive bored ya enough, thanks again jeremy
  14. heres a link with some peoples thoughts on what your looking for hope it might help http://www.panix.com/~ro/tuning/jiguitar Also seen that guy with that schecter before, I believe his name is Jon Catler. Yeah thats it, heres another page for you to look at the scales http://www.microtonalsynthesis.com/scale_catler.html and these are pictures of the different fretboards for those that are interested in what they look like http://www.organicdesign.org/peterson/guit...#staggered_bent and http://www.organicdesign.org/peterson/cust.../catler_ji.html i could not find much on info on the on the fly interchangeable ones but I know they exist, happy hunting hope it helps jeremy
  15. nah im at my moms, for xmas anyways so i probably would have been using thiers anyways jeremy
  16. Well, mine died, Im at my moms house, so I'll be scarce for the next few days, sadly, I dont have the parts I need, I have everything else in the world except the one thing I need, a video card, but I get stuff wholesale and they are closed for the holiday, so I can't get anything untill next week, they took the whole week off, so I will try and hop on when I can next few days, thanks brian for the jinx just kidding jeremy
  17. umm im just lucky to have a guitar of any quality just kidding, no some of the best stuff is no name bargain basebment, aka my samick lp copy, wich is basically the epi copy, samick makes the epi for gibson and its the same thing, i think like one out of every 20 probably gets thier own name stamped on it instead and they cut the headstock slighty different, im just guessing but otherwise, its just like a epi, the pickups and the hardware are from the same stockpile, and the only other noticeable difference is the cutway is slightly changed, but other than that, its a great korean piece of wood, and for alot less than the epi, so i took a chance on it and next to my spare parts fender its my other favorite jeremy
  18. bicthin... nice axe like the blueish swirlys, makes me think of the ocean, you should add a surfer dude on it, hehe just kidding take care jeremy
  19. sweet, go with a little less black and stay real close to the edges with it in the burst, really make that bookmatch show up, sadly the floyd rose trem as wonderful it is kinda hides the most in my opinon crucial area for showing off a burst, a les paul is a wonderful guitar for a bookmatched burst because of the area just behind the stop bar is the most brilliant part of the burst, sadly a strat style or ibanez with a floyd just doesnt allow for much untouched area of the burst to be shown, but thats my 2 cents, i know reather hard im sure but possible i remember fender made a ventures jazzmaster with a blackburst and the matching headstock had a matched burst, just an ideal, that would be sweet, looking forward to seeing this btw your concept picture looks awesome, best of luck to you jeremy
  20. i also do pc work on the side for people, what kinda power supply do u need, i might have something u can use as i have a ton of spare parts jeremy
  21. i know i go all nutz sometimes on my posts, i just love to say alot, thanks for all the help and advice, im really going to be needing it in a couple of weeks, this is my first major undertaking and i think the rewards will pay off, thanks again, im too excited, thats all, its like when u got your first guitar, its that feeling all over again times 10 jeremy
  22. nah, done the burst thing before, had several of those, got tired of it, then i went all black, again, tired of that, i think straight up all natural or tv yellow, i always liked that loud yellow color with just a hint of the grain showing through, but thanks ill consider all options, this will be my first finish attempt so i dont think burst would be the best to try and tackle first jeremy
