  1. On mimf there was a guy who simply glued the floyd nut on with epoxy. I would not recommend that though. I cannot imagine that the glue between the nut and the neck does not take away overtones and sustain. I think the top-mount nuts are the best solution. They do not weaken the neck at its mos sensible point and they can be bought from Schaller for example. I only use top-mount nuts. HTH, Marcel Knapp!
  2. Ouch.... That sux. Perhaps you can force him to take the wood back? Thanks for the warning though!
  3. Looks great. Only the black colors at the bottom end of the top of the body look a little strange(not bad though). What do they come from?
  4. I think there is no fixed rules. There are many necks that become square at the joint, but I prefer necks that keep their profile as long as possible and morph into the body contour in an organic way. Just look at pictures of neck-through guitars and copy the joint you like.
  5. Hmm....I heard that it is 9°. Can someone confirm that?
  6. Yes I'll surely draw the templates....but I want to order the wood NOW.
  7. @AlexVDL: I cannot do that because I dont know the dimensions of the 7-string peghead. I know that it has 9° angle, but without it's length I cannot determine how thick a blank I need. @Jammy: Thanks....I am looking forward to your measurements.
  8. Hi! Can someone with a Ibanez Universe give me the dimension of the neck? I want to cut the neck with the angled headstock out of ONE piece of maple, because I dont like scarf joints. Therefore I need to know how long the neck is and how thick the neck in total(WITH the angled peghead) is. I need to know how thick a neck blank I have to buy in order to cut out the neck as one piece. Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  9. Great attitude. I understand what you mean. I would NEVER sell my first real Fender made in USA Strat with a 70's hand wound Bill Lawrence singelcoil-format humbucker at the bridge. I have so many guitars, but none comes close to this Strat for me.
  10. Thanks for the warning dave. So far my Korina did not have worm holes, but its always good to be careful.
  11. At least the micro guitar is not such a waste of ressources and a real achievement. Everyone with enough time and wood can build a giant V.
  12. >Last I knew, real 59 Les Pauls were going for $175,000 to $200,000 USD. Then I would sell it immediately.... You could buy a much better guitar for $2000 and keep the rest for other things.
  13. Thanks for the info Alex. Does anyone know if Gotoh makes a 7-string Floyd?
  14. Interesting Digideus....Thanks for the info. As I dont have built he peghead in question yet, I'll do it in 15mm now that you say that.
  15. I suppose a 59 would be really quite expensive.....Sell it and buy a good guitar instead....I hate Les Pauls more then any other guitar: It is far too heavy to be comfortable if you play standing, it has no forarm contour but a sharp and uncomfortable edge instead and for all that pain it doesnt even reward you with a different sound compared to similar designs which dont have these design flaws. Addititionally a new Les Paul costs MUCH more than it is worth. Check a bunch of Les Pauls in a store and you'll find that the consistency in quality you might expect from such an expensive guitar is simply not there. I bet that you'll find one of four sounding as good as it is expensive.... Disclaimer: Dont take my post too serious I am just an uncurable Les Paul hater....
  16. Sorry dave. That was a mistake. I never bought from Exoticwoods and probably never will because the don't even answer my mails. I meant that Galleryhardwoods will always be my #1 source for tonewoods. Thanks anyway.
  17. Do the Gotoh Floyds have hardened steel inserts for the saddles and knive edges? What material are they made of? And do they sell a 7-string version?
  18. Thanks for your answers! @Scott: Thanks....I just sent him a mail! As I said before, Exoticwoods(EDIT: I meant Galleryhardwoods and not Exoticwoods) will always be my #1 source for guitar woods. But I suspect that they have no Korina in stock at the moment, because I bough the second last blank he had some time ago, so I asked for other sources in case Larry confirms that he has no Korina at the moment.
  19. That depends on the bridge you use. The fingerboard has at least to be high enough above the face of the guitar to match the bridge in its "lowest" setting. With match I dont mean that they should be the same height, but that the final height with strings and frets make the guitar just below playable with the "lowest" bridge setting. Keep in mind that the action should be too low to really play the guitar if the bridge is adjusted as low as possible, because this will be the lowest possible action you can achieve via changing the bridge's height.
  20. As I already wrote I did not succeed in finding another supplier then stewmac, so If you find one, then please let me know.
  21. Thanks Dave! There is nothing wrong with Galleryhardwoods. In fact I think it is the best source for figured wood and they are far better than comparable shops. I did buy from the twice and was very happy with the wood and the prices. The problem is that they do not answer my emails in the last days and as far as I remember my last conversation with them, they dont have much Korina at the time. As I need the Korina blank as soon as possible it would be bad to wait for their answer and then beeing told that they dont have any, when I could have bought the needed blank in the meantime.
  22. Hi! I need a nicely figured Korina(black Limba) body blank. Do you know a place beside Galleryhardwoods that sells Korina blanks? Thanks, MK!
