  1. Hmm....I have to make up my mind on which design I prefer....I wish I could borrow that template though....
  2. You have a good ear.... I already planned to install the ToneZone, because it is my favorite Bridge PU.
  3. Thanks for your answers. You're right here. But I think I'll change a little, so that the body edges meet at the neck at the point, where the strange shaping on the original begins. This will look better and give even better access to the upper frets. This is perhaps only possible with a neck-through-neck which could be the reason why Jackson did not do that as well. What do you think?
  4. Thank you very mich for helping me out with the measurements. I hope I can help you sometime too....
  5. I looked at the plans, and I wonder why Jackson did not choose to let the body lines run straight into the neck, but to make that strange shape where the body meets the neck. Is there any other reason than optical design for doeing that? I think it would look cooler if the two edges of the body would meet the neck without that strange curve.
  6. Thank you very much for taking the measurements. Are they really reliable and did you check them twice? I dont ask because I dont believe you, but I want to make sure that they are correct, because I'll use them for my neck without checking a UV myself. There is onyl one dimension missing for me now: How wide is the fretboard at the last fret? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  7. I am building a Ibanez Universe. I have all the neccesary materials and dimensions, but there are some things I still need. 1. What is the width of the Universe Neck at the nut and at the other end? 2. Whats the best way to do the lion's claw routing under the Floyd? 3. Is there anything you dont like about the original Universe which I could do better with mine? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  8. Thanks for your Answers! Those inlays look very cool Rhoads! Seems I have to draw the plans myself....
  9. Where can I download or buy a set of plans for the Jackson Randy Rhoads Guitar? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  10. I have to agree that the neck pocket doesn't look very stable. I would not doubt Warmoth products though. They have alot of expirience and a very good reputation, so I guess they wouldn't build the body like this if it wouldn't be stable enough.
  11. True, but that would require a new neck, because a different scale length needs a different fret placement.
  12. @mj_gant: There is one thing to keep in mind concerning your idea. Many popular bridges like the TOM have to be placed at an angle and therefore cannot be mounted on the floyd studs. If I were you, I would install a standard Tremolo which rests on the body and does not allow upward movement and remove or open the locking nut. Perhaps you'll even find one which fits the old studs.
  13. @All: My post was not aimed directly at one of you. I just felt that I have to defend the Floyd.... @Reaper: I agree with you 100%. The Floyd has its disadvantages in handling. It does take more time to replace a broken string and it is certainly less reliable than a fixed bridge. Additionally there is the problem of strings getting sharp during double bends. But there are also alot of prejudices against Floyds which simply are not correct. Nobody has to like the Floyd, but it is certainly not as bad as many people tell you it is. And it simply is the only 100% tuning stable Tremolo I played.
  14. This really upsets me. There are so many people badmouthing the Floyds. I guess most criticism is based on bad setups and cheap floyds. If a well-made floyd(Schaller or Ibanez) is installed and set up correctly none of the aforementioned problems occur. Most guitar legends play Floyds....they would not do that if the Floyd wouldn't be one of the best tremolos arround. There are so many people especially shop clerks telling you how terrible a Floyd sounds, how it kills your sustain, etc. This simply is not true. How could Floyd Players like Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani achieve their great guitar sound if the Floyd was that bad?
  15. I cannot read japanese....are these guitars originals or are they new and modeled after the originals?
  16. Funny how many people leave mimf....I even asked back my donation because I was so upset with the way they moderate the place....
  17. I design my custom guitars in 3D Studio Max 5.0, which is a good program for the task, especially because it is comatible to Autocad and has a very advanced material editor which allowed me to do a realistic quilted maple top with a shiny sunburst finish. It is a very complicated program aiming at the pro though. It is usually used for making rendered films and animations for Videogames and TV. Dont expect to simply draw a guitar....You really have to learn the program first, but it allows to draw virtually EVERYTHING, as can be seen in many commercial films and games. Another downside is it's high price....but if you only need it for private use and dont want to sell/show the pictures to customers you could get a pirated version.... HTH, Marcel Knapp!
  18. thanks....where do I find the download section? On the main page it says that the download center is accesible via the forum, but I cannot figure out how....
  19. Sounds like you mainly play through the clean channel and look for a jazzy/bluesy sound....I think the Crate is not for you then....Why use a 4x12 Box and a heavey head if you can wonderful clean sounds out of the much smaller Fender & Mesa Tube combos? You can read alot of reviews on the Blue Vodoo here.
  20. Hi! Can someone give me a link to a site with blueprints or at least detailed photos of the Musicman John Petruci 7-String or the Universe? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  21. Depends on the bridge you use. The deeper strings always need to be a little longer than the higher strings in order to intonate correctly. If your bridge allows enough adjustment range to get the top strings short enough if you place the bridge without an angle, then you wont need an angle.
