  1. i was thinking about this last night for several hours the only easy way that i could come up with would be on the lathe, cut out a 25"(or whatever you want)radius out of mdf and attach sandpaper to it, and while the lathe is spinning put it on the outside of it, where you would be carving out if you were carving out a bowl or a plate. another idea i had was to attach the tool to a 25' stick so it can only go a certain distance(in a 25" radius motion). and yes i think my lathe is big enough to pull this off. any easier ideas? thanks carousel
  2. yea, my dads is a big time hobby wood worker so in my basement i have access all of the tools i need to resaw(huge new laguna bandsaw cuts AMAZING) and clean up boards, along with tons of hand tool, routers, saws etc. also where do you get those sanding dishes and ill have alot of money around holiday time to buy specialized tools. thanks for all of your help, i'm sure ill be coming back for tips.
  3. so... Ive ordered a few books on acoustic guitar making because i want to take on a new challenge over the break and I've thought about it and amp making just is not for me. First i wanna start out picking what types of woods to use for everything and i wanna get a list of tools that i will need for the job. i have a very nice workshop to use(any non acoustic guitar specialized tool i could possible want.) but i have no bending iron molds or anything, although, i have all of my electric guitar making tools. Also, i don't really play the acoustic guitar, so i have no ear for what a good acoustic guitar should sound like. Is their something i should be looking for or like most things does it come with experience? also i will be building left handed. Also, although I've ordered a few books does anyone have any recommended books or sites for me to read. Thanks
  4. I've finished the neck almost, just need to carve it. ill get some pics up tomorrow. its a strat style neck with a truss rod thats accessible from the heel. it looks pretty nice as of now. im thinking of putting it on an all walnut explorer or v shaped body.
  5. k good, what is involved in setting the bias and the bias circuit?
  6. Whats involved in setting the bias and the bias circuit? I want something that will take a lot of time, but at the same time i want it to be a completable project. Also, i thought the 5E7 is a 3x10" amp
  7. Do you have the 5E7? what do you think i should go with for the cabinet cover, I'm thinkin' snakeskin, and black grill cloth, just because its unique. also, how long do you think it'll take me to assemble it, and do you think i should do a small amp or pedal project before it to get me ready, if so, any suggestions?
  8. how is the 5E7 compared to a crate palomino 15w? thanks for your help
  9. I've tried acetone for the same reason and it did'nt work at all. how much acetone should i be putting on it?
  10. alright, im going to scarf it i guess, does anyone have any recommendations for what to make the headstock? Im probably just gonna make the guitar to go with the neck
  11. Hey, Im very interested in building a 5E7 from Weber (https://taweber.powweb.com/store/kits_50a.htm#5E7). thing is i have little experience with wiring electronics, but i do know how to solder decently. do you think that i will be able to complete this project with little experience with working with electronics? Also i am aware of the dangers of working with tube amps. could anyone show me so good links on how to stay safe when working with them Thanks
  12. nice i think I'm gonna try it tonight. o you have any unique headstock templates and would you recommend scarfing it or doing it strat style
  13. nice neck. i think I'm gonna make one V style.
  14. So, i have a truss rod laying(that i cut out of an old guitar that wasn't quite up to my standards, i waste NOTHING lol) around and recently I've been very bored, my only project going on is my science project guitar until i make my first amp in December. so, i want to know, would zebrawood be stable enough to make an entire neck out of, I think its kind of prone to warping? Also, to kill Boredom recently, I've been stocking up on fretboards; I made a few zebrawood and a few maple, so it wont be much of a loss if it fails, so if its questionable it'll be okay since i have all the wood, and materials sitting around collecting dust.
  15. yea... its a highschool project. I don't think how accurate the results are matter as much as how well done the experiment is. my teacher probably has no idea about anything having to do with guitars so i honestly don't think it will be thought into that much.
  16. thats how the experiment is set up as of now. the guitar is wired one volume and an output which goes to my digitech rp250 which goes to my computer the pendulum thing is on top of the guitar, works good.
  17. To measure the sustain i was going to put it into a program like auacity and check how long it took until the sound stopped. does anyone know of a better program to use that will measure the sound better
  18. Does anyone know reasons why some bridges would sustain more than other?
  19. hey thanks man, do you know how i could determine what frequencies are audible and which arent?
  20. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSC00241.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSC00239.jpg i just attempted an inlay after about 3 hours of practice , don't laugh the first pictures what it looks like, the second picture is blurry, the third picture makes it look worse than it is due to the flash but it shows my mistakes best
  21. thanks everyone anyone know any sites that i can research this at?
  22. I'm gonna make a string plucker that drops down so that its nearly the same each time. If i do about 10-20 trials each bridge it should be pretty accurate. I'm gonna plug my guitar into my computer and record all of the notes and see how long they last before they die. Does anyone have any ideas on how i could do this experiment more accurately.
