  1. The neck is just a plain strat neck, It's not died yellow. Thats a pretty good idea, but I think the owner would prefer a plain unbound headstock(unfortunately.) I'll get some more pics up later.
  2. Here is my latest creation. It's a yellow topped strat with a black back. Right now I'm in the process of finishing it up so that I can give it to its owner. I'm very pleased with the results, it's better than my other guitars (my skills are improving ) this is probably my favorite so far. Anyway, I'll have this thing finished up in no time at all.
  3. The top is actually curly cherry, Its great wood. I don't know why more people don't use cherry for guitars
  4. nice! this looks great, what kind of bandsaw did you get?
  5. I'm thinking of adding a black pickguard somewhere in the future. Im not sure if itd look good though, any suggestions.
  6. Here you go. I think it flows nicely. I think this may be a tiny bit larger than the average firebird.
  7. Finished. This duplicolor paint worked AMAZING. I'd highly recommend it to anyone that needs to find some paint locally. This guitar plays very good. the action is perfect, and it sounds great. Too bad i cant do any real playing . http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0461.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0462.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0464.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0465.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0466.jpg
  8. I love natural tops, their are few times i would ever pass up the opportunity to add another to my collection . anyway, here it is with some clear. the instructions said to spray the clear 15 minutes after, i waited 2 hours and wet sanded the back with 400 grit to get rid of a few imperfections then i sprayed.
  9. wow VERY nice. Makes me want to build a tele .
  10. Aye, thanks for the help. Thats what I'm gonna do. I got a pretty nice coat of black down. Theirs 3.5 coats of color, thats all I'm going to put on it. I'll post up some pics in a few minutes. You'd think this is this first guitar I've ever finished with some of my questions lol. The back the side (you can see the cans of paint I'm using.) http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0447.jpg shot of the neck. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0448.jpg Also, I don't even think I mentioned this, the back is going to be black and the front is going to be natural.
  11. what about what killemall said? he said his duplicolor clear dried good. Im just going to try to use the clear I have, I paid for it already, theirs no returning it now. Also. When i sprayed the color on today it went on kind of rough. it wasnt smooth at all. Is this a problem, or something that could easily be ssolved with a little bit of sanding.
  12. So with this duplicolor how long should I be waiting for cure? What kind of duplicolor paints were you guys using? Rattle cans or stuff you need to spray yourself.
  13. yea, i sealed the back and am priming it with duplicolor primer then am using duplicolor paint, then duplicolor clear. all of it is being sprayed out of my gun, not rattle cans.
  14. I'm thinking of using duplicolor, would you think that would be okay?
  15. yea w ing broke off of the inlay. I have a pretty nice hvlp sprayer so spraying probably would be a better option for me. Would nitro from lowes or home depot do or would something from an auto store be better or should i order online.
  16. thats probably right, but i know I could've done much better, the bird inlays that I did are a lot better. Also, I need to ask, what type of finish do you guys use? I know I want to use nitro, but their are so many different types of nitro I'm not sure what to get. Before this guitar all of my guitars have used waterbased poly, but I haven't been that happy with the results. Do any of you know what company I should be ordering my nitro from. I saw Behlen's like they sell at Stewmac, but I was wondering if their was some type of nitro that I could buy locally, like at an auto supply store or home depot/lowes. It doesn't have to be bought locally, I'm definitely willing to wait so that I get the best finish possible.
  17. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0442.jpg best fret job I've ever done, the inlay is bad though, I couldn't bend my inlay arm. O well, its for me, its not like it matters that much, and if it bothers me, Ill change it to a block inlay.
  18. I'm doing the thunderbird car logo as a 12th fret inlay. Why cant you view photobucket?
  19. tuners mounted, http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r191/st...17/DSCN0405.jpg I think ill inlay and fret tomorrow.
  20. ^ I just resawed zebrano and noticed no smell. I think the worst smelling wood is indian rosewood. I will try as hard as possible to never use it again, but it looks so good
  21. I don't like it. If I would've made the grain go straighter up the guitar it would've been much better. Right now I'm debating whether its worth another try though, it doesn't look that good IMO. Thats possibly because I screwed up the grain orientation because I had to squeeze it on because I glued it wrong.
  22. okay, right now I just went down and glued up this zebra wood that I just resawed for a pickguard I matched the grain pretty good, You shouldn't be able to tell its two pieces really.
  23. EDIT:nevermind I'm thinking of making the back black and the front natural. I have some ideas for a pickguard Ill get the up soon.
  24. what about a zebra wood pickguard, If I have wide enough zebra wood Ill do it. Maybe Zebra Cherry Zebra.
  25. Thanks guys, I'm going to try to start finishing this up this weekend. Monday I get my cast off so I can finally get back to more serious things. Im not sure what I want to do pickguard wise. I was thinking maybe tortoise shell, white, or cream, but I'm not sure.
