  1. I think this might belong in the buy-sell-trade part?...Are you putting out a want add?
  2. I was looking at ebay for some cheap Les Paul style necks and i cam upon this Ebay it says "Jr." is this a different scale size such as for a child? Of course I want to build a normal size guitar...(I know this may be the dumbest question ever) Thanks
  3. My next project is going to be similiar to a Les Paul but lack the curved top because its my first real build and I want to get more used to things before I take that on...I was wondering is would this vibratoLink work on my guitar that is flat instead of curved? This one is a lot more affordable than an actual Bigsby which is a plus...And also I personally like the look of this one better. Thanks
  4. I plan to cut my first few bodies with a jig saw and I would like to know whats the right one I am on a tight budget so am shopping around does it have to be large? Or would this work to cut the body Link or would I have to go something larger(and of course more expensive like this Link What ever your suggeations are maybe I will go with used and just hope it works if it gets to pricey.... Thanks
  5. Ok well I am getting ready to build a guitar this summer(and I know you get a lot that start this way)but I dont get this router stuff...So I went to home depot the other day and looked at some. And now I know there are fixed routers and plunger routers my question is, is all this is is a different base to the router. Lets say i go to Home depot buy a router then do I go and buy a plunger base to attach to the router? Also you have to use the plunger for cavities(Pickup...etc.) and then you use the fixed for such things as cleaning off the sides of the body after you cut it out and for things like binding? And I might as well through this question in there as well you can use a jigsaw to cut out the body then clean the edges with a router right? Thank you
  6. Hmm ok the only thing I am trying to figure out is can I dremel the pocket out I want to use this Link and would it slip on the metel frets? Would I need more of a smooth surface to work on?
  7. Its these that I am thinking of putting in Link And pretty much what I want to do if possible is just leave the fret markings in because I dont have that kind of money and just put them in, is there anyway possible to do this or should I just say no?
  8. I see is there an easy way to go about making it a curved top or is it pretty much routing it then sanding? Is there a good link I could look at or an even better book I could save up to get? Thanks
  9. Well for my next project I want to build a kind of Les Paul and as you all know they have curved tops on them....I know this makes everything more difficult so I might just settle for a flat top that just has the shae of a Les Paul but would rather have it be curved so my question is what is this wood Link specifically the ones that say "Les Paul top plates" are these already curved and I just pretty much glue them on some other wood and then cut the whole thing out and it is already a curved top? Because that sound too good to be true but hey I dont know these things so i thought I would ask...Thank you very much for the help
  10. So I am still redoing that p-bass and I would like to do some inlay work on the neck my question is sort of two. First you do need to remove the metal frets to put abalone markings in right? And my second is, is if you do have to remove them how should I do that without hurting the finish and can I reinstall the old ones and how wouldd I go about reinstalling them? Thank you
  11. I am redoing a p-bass and am kind of making the whole thing look retro and i guess old/distressed looking. I am wondering if I could buy a simple white pickguard and then add something to it to make it a creamy color or distressed in some way? If you know please tell me and if you can show pictures...Thanks
  12. Well thanks the only problem is I dont have a heat gun and I really dont have the money. Also it is just the sides left to do. So what I will probably do is use stripper and then go on to sand paper. Atleast the striper will get most of the crap off...But any other points I would appreciate. Thanks
  13. Well I have a p-bass that I am refinishing and have been sanding the body forever, as you all know there is three layers of blue crap I have to get through. Well anyways I have done the top and back with an electric sander, took awhile though. Now I am getting to the sides and I must say hand sanding them is a horrible horrible thing to do...Now I have been reading the tutorials and looked at all the ways to remove paint. I wanted to do the sadning because I thought that it wouldnt hurt the wood at all, but now this is getting harder than hell and I am wondering if I can use some sort of stripper on the sides to get it done. My question is will the chemicals hurt the wood such as effect the look because I am going to use dyes so you will beable to see the wood? Also if I do use chemical stripper what is recommended? Thank you very much
  14. So I am re-doing a p-bass and I am going to be putting a flamed maple veneer top on it. As you know a p-bass has a curve on the edges. My question is, is there any way that I could put like a wood edging on it(buying from lmii.com)so that the transition looks a little better from the flamed maple to the rest of the guitar?(also this my seem dumb but i dont know the differences between bindings and purfling and all that so I am just calling in "edging") I have read a message similiar but it didnt really answer my question. Thank you very much
  15. So I was watching a couple of painting shows on DIY and they were showing using gold leaf on some things. I was wondering is it possible to do something like gold leaf on a guitar? Lets say on the head of the guiter, instead of like a mother-of-pearl inlay could you do a gold leaf of the bird with some glue or something to hold the gold leaf and then just lacquer over it or something so it doesn't get torn up? I would be interested in doing this and if you guys have any ideas I could do it and make a tutorial if it turns out. Thanks
  16. Ok I have been searching the forums for ideas about sunbursts and obviously I am new to this forum and relatively new to refinishing. I have a few questions if anyone could answer them First off I am redoing a p-bass and am interested in putting a flame maple top on but I dont know how to fit it right is there a way to add like bindings or anything...Also I was going to do a sunburst but am unsure of the best finish for flame maple maybe there is a better idea you know of other than sunburst, I am planning to stain the rest of the guitar a dark color but any design ideas from experienced people would be nice..... Also I have noticed that the actual base may be longer than the veneer which is 20" and the guitar is like 21" so I also have to get around that problem...And if i was to do a sunburst I would most likely do a rub on so where is the best place to find the dyes?... thank you
  17. I know that this might be the dumbest question some of you may have heard but Ill ask it anyhow is there a difference between Polyeurethane and Lacquer Is polyeurethane a newer product that doesnt discolor or something? Because when I look for lacquer all i can find is polyeurethane...So are they the same? And also when you actually putting the last layer on the guitar for protection should you use poly or lacquer? Thank you very much
  18. I am interested in doing a 1/40" thick veneer of flamed maple on my p bass and was wondering what are some of the options I have for finishes? Such as what do you guys like the best simple and more complex finished like the red burst on the outside and the gold in the center...I dont know how to do any of these and any help I would appreciate.
