I had the same problem. In the end, one day I adjusted my strap by 1 "notch" and everything was perfect. Until then I had just about given up playing standing up. Go against your instinct and shorten your strap to the max. Then gradually lengthen it until you hit the point where you can't play without pain. Shorten it back one notch and you are on your way!

Just found this site and it was a lifesafer! I recently just received my new Gibson Les Paul Supreme. It looked beautiful but the set up was absolutely crappy. (Probably because it was shipped into a completely different climate). Anyway, I was able to set the intonation OK, but the action just sucked. The setup tutorial on this site guided me through everything and now the guitar plays as good as it looks!!! I owe whoever wrote up that tutorial a huge THANK-YOU.
