  1. The blue top is poppin' out, very nice grain n' stain. I think this will work best with a plain pickguard, is that the way you are going to go? I think a pearl or patterned pickguard would clash. What colour/type of hardware are you planing? And not a biggy, I am just curious, why is the paint stick screwed into the midline of the neck pocket? :D

  2. I think hotted up pawnshop prize is a better term. I have never done this type of project but I think its been a fun exercise something I would definitely consider doing. Taking expensive guitars into pubs and clubs and out on the road can be kinda narky when a cymbal falls over and slices a chunk out of your vintage axe. If you have something that didn't cost several appendages but plays and sounds great and it gets a ding, no biggy.

I like the look of this guitar now, I think it would look better with speed knobs but thats just my opinion. I would like to see a shot of the headstock and the tuners.

  3. but what about the woods? is the guitar built with solid woods? maybe plywood on the body.

The top is almost certainly veneered plywood bent over a block of wood under the bridge and glued down at the edges to look like a carved top. You can see the plywood rising away from the body base in the shot inside the control cavity.

What brand is the humbucker? Some good info on circuits phase switches etc at http://mediawebsource.com/guitar/pickup.htm

  4. G'Day Fenix, My advice is act on your enthusiasm for guitar building and go for it. Don't worry about stuffing up, many of us do it. In fact a lot of readers like hearing about the stuff ups and helping with advice about how to fix the problem. So whip out the power tools, you could end up with something cool like this,

    A Les Paul Supreme ...

at worst you may have to chuck your project and start again.

You can make a cheap guitar body blank by gluing three pieces of hardwood to a rectangle of medium density fibreboard (MDF) screw the boards down around the edges to the MDF until the glue dries, then cut and carve. Repeat until you get it right then buy a really schmick piece of wood and get busy.

Good luck, I'll look forward to hearing about your challenges and successes, cheers, Muzz.

  5. Hmm.. . To drill that wire hole, you would use a extremely long drill bit, right? But I'm home alone, and the nearest hardware store is quite a bit aways. So, is there any way I could possibly do this without using the long drill bit?

The only way I know without the long bit or a mini right angle chuck is to route a cavity in the back between the two pickups and drill from the top through each pup recess at an angle into the back cavity. Heaps more work and an extra cavity cover to make, I'd just hang fire until you get to the shop for the long bit.

  6. Right with you! I also hate hum, the end of a song should go, widly didly widly didly ------- kerrang, not widly didly widly didly ---------- kerrang hummmmmmmmmmm :D

You might want to try lining the cavity or pickguard with copper shielding foil,

and connect all the ground wires and the bridge or tail stop to the copper shield. This stops the pups from humming and buzzing even at the huge preamp gains that many of us like. For complete and absolute silence in the breaks a noise gate set at 10 o clock, before the preamp does the trick.

  7. Have you tried a Variac to lower the voltage into the amp? They let you use all the power amp distortion you want. Also for your boost, I'm guessing for the solos, have you thought about taking your amp to a mod shop and getting them to install a second footswitchable master volume? these are the bees knees to get out in front for the widdly diddly bits.

  8. That gap looks tiny, so a shim should do it, I am wondering if you could fill the top of the gap with clear two pack, has anyone stuck baking paper on the neck so the two pack won't stick to that then poured in the resin for a perfect clear join?

The guitar looks great, the carve is shmicko.
