  1. to be honest i dont know but if it all works fine and u have no hums or pops then stick with it.theres not much that can get damaged in guitar electrics as they only run on very low voltage.
  2. anyone ever used hammerite smooth satin finish to get a truely durable satin finsh? i saw some today but its obviously meant for metal, just wondered if anyone tried it?
  3. i have 81's and have always wired one side of the switch to the body of the pick up vol pot and the other side of the switch to the centre peg of the vol pot.this works fine for me,dont wire it between the out put jack as this just makes a horrible pop etc i think if you want it to affect either pick up then just link a wire from the centre peg to the other centre peg or body of pot to other body of pot(cant remember which one, trial and error) your switch mite be either 'always on' or 'always off'there maybe 4 legs to choose from, again trial and error unless it has instruction hope this helps
  4. ok,i hav sprayed my explorer in satin black(i have done all the rest, priming etc)and it looks pretty dam good from a distance and not to bad close up,i guess u can never truely get a smooth finish as no final sanding is done on satin(or is it?). im happy with the finish but the trouble i have is it marks so easily,i mean you only have to very slightly touch it with something and it leaves a line or mark. now should i lacquer it to protect it? if i lacquer it then im gona have to sand it down smooth which will leave a flat black finish not satin. is it not possible to get a durable none marking satin finish? please help cheeers
  5. is binding on a guitar actually binding or is it just a white line just sprayed on and then lacuerd?how would u tell the difference?does it really matter,i mean unless its not lacquerd how would you tell an difference? if i wanted binding on say my headstock all i would do is mask a line around it,spray it what ever color i wanted then lacquer it,no need to route out a section.
  6. hi,ok im trying to refinish an epiphone explorer in satin black.i have so far sanded down the original gloss black finish, primed it and coated it in satin black spray(sanding in between, sanded smooth before the final coat etc, getting to the point).now the finish i have got now is satin black and from a distance looks exactly how i want it but on close inspection it is not very smooth. now i tried on a small part of the body under the scratch plate to get a better finish.i sanded down with 1200 grade wet/dry and then t-cut it.once i got all the scratches out it looked ok but kinda looked more like matt black. i have a gibson gothic explorer wich is finished in satin black and the finish is very smooth but not matt black.i am trying to get this finish. can someone give me a step by step guide how to do this properly?most people i have spoke to have just said 'oh sand it down to a flat matt finish, its the same thing' but it aint,it looks dull and boring.i want the finish i have got now but much smoother. can i use satin lacquer?i mean can i just spray the guitar in matt black then use a satin lacquer, buff it up and all that then t-cut it?would this give a good result?would it be better as after playing and rubbing it it wouldnt actually be rubbing the paint to a shine? any help would be great cheers
