  1. I did one on a table saw before.Just make a mark on the fence where the bit starts and make a mark on the back of your neck where the heel end of the rod will start.Stop when the fence mark reaches your heel end mark.
  2. If I were to radius my inlay material before cutting it out could I just drop them into a pre radiused board as long as my inlay depth was right? Anyone do inlays on pre radiused boards?
  3. Is tru oil available outside the US?I can't find it anywhere up here in the frozen north.
  4. I've screwed up enough stuff.I'll listen to those who know.Better to wait a month or so,rather than have to respray and wait another month.
  5. Does Shellac have to cure for the same time on average as lacquer? Does it shrink like lacquer? I saw a guitar at my local shop that was garnet shellac and it looked great.
  6. I've only built two necks and I used a dremel to sand my fretboards into shape for glueing.Could I use a router to trim the sides?Figured I'd ask first since I only have one board. Was worried that it would tear out at the fret slots. also, when you guys trim your fingerboard,do you leave it a little wide for a final sanding on the sides or go right to fit? PLease and thanks
  7. I just have a shop vac for dust collection.I move it from tool to tool as needed. What I noticed was there is very fine dust on the floor that I think is coming out of my vac.Was wondering if any one tried those shop vac air cleaners to get rid of the super fine dust?Or is there a better filter for my shop vac?
  8. Fenders website is perfect for making your own outlines at least. They have direct over head shots of their strats and teles.Save the pic,do a little crop and print in four page poster print.Just get a width at last fret measurement or fender spacing to get your size right.
  9. Ken Smith Basses do lacquer over tung oil. They have a website now.
  10. I have some Walnut that I plan to use polymerized tung oil to finish it with. Can I use grain filler and still have the oil soak in. Could I wet sand with the oil and not have to use grain filler?I heard that is what a lot of gun stock makers do.Anyone ever try it? Also,if you want to do a tung oil then wax finish, can the grain be left open?
  11. I broke down and ordered an explorer template today.I live a ways away from where I get my wood so I figure I'll go on the weekend.Seeing as I won't have my template, would anyone know the width and length I'm gonna need to get? Please and thanks

  13. I guess that is the finish on that Ken Lawrence Hettfield explorer.I kind of like that kind of finish for a dark natural color. Not to glossy. What exactly do you do? Just wondering
  14. I was thinking of getting some Walnut and was just wondering what the difference is between the black and standard.I saw a few guitars of black walnut and it looks pretty much like all of the standard walnut I've seen or even lighter in color. Is the "black" just a tree name and not meaning the color tone of the wood?
  15. Okay thanks. When I'm spraying I can't smell a thing, and I do keep the mask in a bag.But I think I'll change them considering they're not expensive and I can't buy new lungs. The mask is an AO Safety with r51a chemical cartridges for organic vapours. is this okay? I'm confused .Do I change filters and cartridges at the same time?
  16. What are guidelines for changing te filters on my mask?I'm using aerosol lacquer and I've probably only used 8 or 10 cans. Also.I was spraying in this little both I made but it wasn't getting out the fumes fast enough. So I have a window 2ft by 2ft that I put a 2ft by 2ft fan blowing out.I spray maybe no more than 3ft away from it and level with the window. The fumes go shooting out and you can't smell fumes there even 5 minutes after. Is this good enough?
  17. That face looks just like the guy from MAD magazine.
  18. Depends I guess.Seymours are cool too. They are(in my mind)a little more midrange based.A lot of people use Seymours. These Lawrences are handmade one at a time.Which I think is very cool for 50$. I find this pickup to be unique.Sometimes you get a PU and expect a sound change and it's minimal. Try em out.If you don't like em,I'm sure you'd be able to sell it. All in preference.
  19. You can get them from billLawrence.com for 50$.
  20. It is very cool. The pickup gives you some serious gain in mosh mode.Depending on your gear that is .Chrystal clear. They have a tight low end.As far as people talkin about a lot of highs........turn down the treble.I didn't find too much anyway and I'm not a treble lover either. The blade does keep the volume up in bends.I don't play many leads, but if you do,this PU will stand out. The clean mode is superb.I don't usually use the Bridge for much clean stuff, but this is so clear. All in all,a very cool pickup. Well Worth the money and the wait.9 weeks, but who cares.
  21. I have no idea about these things.I just noticed there are a few types. Some have lead and some don't.Silver and other kinds. What kind should I use or do you all use?
  22. Once in a while I'll turn the amp on and it is putting out nothin. If i crank it all the way up and hit a string,"BANG".......it will kick in.What is this? this old Bandit kicks the crap out of my transtube.A metal monster
  23. Anyone see that in the new stew mac cataloge?Would that work all that well?
