syxxstring
anybody tried these things. Stew Mac sells them for about $30.00. And I saw this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5&category=2384 Are they just caps? if so anyone know the value. I can see where a cap could be used for clipping, sort of. thanks John
Brian
I should ask my brother about that he is the electronic wiz in the family. I do know that they require high output pickups to work.

Jehle
I can't browse to ebay on this computer, but it's probably more likely a diode used for clipping. Early fuzz boxes used them to get a squared off wave and that nasty fuzz sound. And yes, you would have to have a higher output pickup to use them correctly. I'm not sure why they would be so expensive. You can buy a pack of 10 diodes from radio shack for about 49 cents.
Myrk~
Would they work in an EMG 81 setup? I've always wanted to make my guitar have a switch or control to turn down distortion without needing a pedal.....
Brian
Would they work in an EMG 81 setup? Sorry to say but no, they are for a passive system
